Jenny shares her experience with her first emergency C section and then pro tips based on the 5 consecutive planned C sections that followed her first. Consider this "C section 101". This video is part 2 of a 2 part conversation we had. If you have not watched the first one please do, it is all about the preparation and process of the C section. In that video she covers everything imaginable from whether or not to eat before it, allergies to latex, pain meds, how you might be feeling, nausea, whether or not to shave your vagina, scarring, and a lot lot more. In this video she talks about the hospital stay, NICU, pooping, belly bands, whether or not to be active, infection, sex after birth and more. If there is anything we missed leave it in the comments below!

This is not how all c-sections go. People watching this and reading comments, don’t get scared. I just had an unexpected c-section and only stayed for 2 nights. I was fed right away and didn’t have to pass gas or a stool. I didn’t have staples. Just the stare strips. I was awake for the baby but they knocked me out to stitch me up. I was given a belly band and that felt wonderful. The scar is tiny and very low. I had an absolutely wonderful and pleasant experience.

I stay the entire 5 days, so much can happen in those days and I'm 45 min from the hospital if I have a blood clots or a major surgery I want to be in the hospital

I can't imagine being turned out a day after major surgery 😳 that sounds frustrating to me. Fresh out of a major surgery, and you're sent back home with a newborn to care for along with any other kids and daily life.
If nothing else, it's necessary to have a nurse or Dr available to answer questions...a day after surgery no one has asked all the questions they're going to have in beginning of recovery. 😬

Jesus is not only the God for Christian as he is the Lord for humans because of his blood sacrifice for the redemption of all humans from their sins and forgiveness. He is resurrected and alive to offer forgiveness to those who repent for their sins. To go to God in our life after death Jesus is the only way and the truth. The wages of sin is death and the gift of God is eternal life. Jesus loves you dear sister.

My C-section got an internal infection. I was In so much pain for months. I was constantly running high fevers and would go into zombie like stage. They gave me antibiotics for 6 weeks. But the swelling had still not gone down completely. For months it was hard and swollen. My lower abdominal was in so much pain I could only wear dresses. My wonderful caring husband took care of me and our baby for 6 weeks. After that he had to return to work. My mom and sister would come by to help. The first two months are mostly a blur . My beautiful baby is 10 months now. I still cannot wear tight jeans or lay my belly without pain. Excessive exercise will result in sharp pains. I talked to my doctor she informed me that every woman's recovery is different. But in some cases some women take two years before they feel like they're back to normal.

Thank you for talking about the process of the grief of getting a c-section! I've had a lot of people say well at least your baby was healthy when expressing my disappoinment (of course I was glad that he could be birthed that way, which I express).I had failure to progress as well and then they found out when they were inside that my tailbone blocked him from coming out. My doctor does not suggest me trying to birth naturally again because the tailbone blocks the birth canal. It was the complete opposite of my plan which was a completely unmedicated and natural birth and not being able to birth naturally can really be hard to accept. Thank you for speaking on that

I actually wanted to stay longer bc they took such good care of me, brought food, i didnt have to worry about anything, but it was height of pandemic so they wanted everyone out asap. It’s serious core surgery so allow yourself help. Sitting, lying down, getting up = slowly! Belly band is super supportive!

I had an emergency c section with my son. I had my 38 week appointment the day before I went into labor and based on feel they said he was head down (that's what they had been saying since 32 weeks). I felt my first contraction when my water broke at home I got to the hospital an hour after that and I was 1cm at check in then 4cm 45 minutes later when the OB came in. My contractions were about 2 minutes apart and super painful. I asked for IV pain meds and when the OB checked position before ordering meds and found he was breech. The OB thought I was in rapid labor so they took me straight to the OR. The spinal didn't take so they put me under general anesthesia because they didn't have time to try again. When I woke up I was in OR recovery and had to wait 45 minutes before going to the postpartum recovery room. I thought I was coping with it all until discharge day where I had to watch this 15 minute long video about the golden hour as part of the discharge process. It hit me that I missed his first cry and immediate skin to skin. I still carry some guilt that his reflux is tied to a suboptimal microbiome because of the c section. He was my first and I'm 34 so I'm not sure if we'll have another but I've had to come to terms with the fact that I do carry some trauma from my birth experience... Still have a hard time talking about it without getting a little emotional two months later.
    Edit: first contraction plus water breaking @ 730 pm, 1cm dilated @ 9, 4cm @ 9:45, baby born at 11:15 pm

I have had staples, and the stiches that dissolve on there own the staples were horrible especially when they are removing them. The second time around i enjoyed my 4 day stay in the hospital plus I feel safe and the extra help from the nurses and the chore free and cooking free environment. The bowel movements are harsh my second time was miserable an older lady told me take two doses of milk of magnesia I know not good to overdose but i was desperate I have never experienced constipation on that level within 20 minutes i was good did not have any issues after that. A support system is key especially if you have other kids. My last two c section my husband took paid family leave and did all the house work, watched our other children until my post partum period ended. I wish i could have bribde my OB for an extra 2 wks of bed rest😂

    @Scroggs2017 Před rokem

Momma of 3 c-sections babies, going on # 4 and when asked ,”Does the vagina itself feel as if you didn’t have a baby?” The answer is that it depends. For myself, mine swelled up with all three. I had to have an ice pack. As for discharge, I never had to wait until my first stool. This may depend on the hospitals policy. Definitely move around when you can. I was always active and moving around so I think that is what helped me recover faster. Also not all Drs do staples. I think with one of mine they used strips. The worst for me is when they press down on your tummy to make sure your uterus is going back down. It can be very painful. In fact, nurses always tell me it’s the least favorite part of their job too bc they know how painful it is. I did not eat right away. In fact, I lived off of ice chips and very little water for an hour or two post op. Hope this helps anyone who reads it. 😊

      Hi Capri!
First, I would definitely keep communication open and ask your doctor detailed questions. I was able to use the band only when I was up. And I had to make sure not to wear it when I was down. I also had to make sure to not sweat and keep it dry. Sweating, not letting the wound breathe, and keeping it too covered can increase risk of infection.

To any new c section mom watching this video, this woman seems super sweet but just keep in mind that a lot of this varies hospital to hospital and provider to provider. I just had my second c section and they don’t do things this way. My hospital doesn’t have rules about farting or not going home until you poop. They also didn’t have me come back to get stitches removed and they didn’t help me at all with going to the bathroom or showering. I didn’t find a band helpful at all. I think everyone is so different it’s hard to find a one size fits all approach

I’m so sorry that you are in this wrestle right now. I totally get the emotions there. Being afraid doesn’t make you a bad mom, and even wanting to be put to sleep doesn’t make you a bad mom! You are doing hard work physically and emotionally right now. Being scared of the unknown is so normal. Processing before hand and being vocal about these fears is really important. Also, know what your options are and talk through the process with your doctor. Sometimes knowing what to expect can ease nerves. Good job carrying your baby and getting them into this world safely. I am so sorry you have to go through this. I was sure I'd never have a C-section (no clue why). But I did, an emergency one. It was totally fine, recovery was much quicker than expected and I felt happy and at peace. It was not at all worse than my other, equally positive (natural) birth. It helps to read medical info beforehand, and maybe talk to regular mums who had positive C-section experiences (which are in the majority, as studies show!) if that helps, or get help from a councellor if you are very scared. There's no shame in that, on the contrary: that's you taking care of yourself and your babes. You are not a bad mum for being scared, you are not wrong (or alone) in feeling that way. And you are pregnant! Give yourself grace, mama, you are doing awesome. Rooting for you!

I had a c-section too and my doctor asked me to wait 12 to 18 months before getting pregnant again , but talk to you doctor for more clarification

Now why would you do that to your body. It needs to fully heal. Or you’ll have complications. That’s why they say to have a child every 2 years apart 🤦🏻‍♀️

And the first period you get after birth literally HURTS SO BAD! Like you’re giving birth!

A slight faux pas on your end, your vagina does not "stay normal" depending on what type of c section you had there are many things that can affect your vagina and that region.
Also the weight of your baby throughout pregnancy and the pressure of it bearing down as it gets bigger means you still have a weakened pelvic floor muscle. I think it's important to note that.
