  • We installed King lowering springs and 2" drop shackles on Matt's truck this weekend. It's a 2000 F-150 2WD with a 4.2L and 5-speed. This should work the same way on any 5-lug 10th generation F-150 from 1997-2004.

    I used 3in drop coils on the front and 2in shackles on the back on my V6 and it worked perfectly.

    I did a similar 3 / 4 drop on my 1998 F150 when it was new. That kit had a 3" drop front sprig and a new front bracket for the front of the rear leaf springs as well as the longer shackle. The truck drove / handled better than stock ride height. I wish I still had that truck. Good candidate for a Coyote. love your shop.

      Thanks, Rick! I’m sure that truck looked great. I was surprised how much difference just a 2” drop made.

    • @ShawnFerret
      @ShawnFerret  Před 2 lety

      We didn’t change the shocks. Since the bump stops don’t move, you aren’t actually changing the suspension travel, but it may be worth buying shocks that are valved to match the stiffer spring rate in the front.

    What size wheels are those, 17”? I just bought a used 2000 150xl and want to drop it a few
    Inches too. Mine came with 20”s and fairly lower profile tires. I keep going back and forth between 2” drop springs
    and 3”. Looks like 2” will do for me with the dub wheels. I dont want to be rubbing coming into a driveway.

  • @dropdoc4927
    @dropdoc4927 Před 2 lety

    so you only changed the rear spring hangers and not the forward mounts? How bad did that jack with your pinion angle?

    • @ShawnFerret
      @ShawnFerret  Před 2 lety +1

      We honestly didn’t measure the angles, but they still looked fine and the truck doesn’t vibrate under any conditions. If it was an issue we would have used shims under the spring perches rather than touch the front mounts. I think it helps that the truck is a V6 manual and the leaf springs are relatively stiff, so there is almost no pinion deflection on accel.

    • @ShawnFerret
      @ShawnFerret  Před 3 lety +1

      The 4x4s have torsion bars instead of coil springs, so you can adjust the height a bit by cranking them down, or you might be able to find torsion keys that will drop it more. The rear can still just be done with shackles.
