Nice to have you back Zion. Not sure if I missed one, but it’s been a while since the last video you were in
I triggered the boar skin quest before starting the magic girl one so doing hers was enough to get him too. Had to go back for the girl with the monster tho
I heard the guy that made this game holds the world record for biggest tuna ever caught
Im a fan of Suikoden (played Suikoden 1, 2 and Tierkris), was tempted to preorder this before but managed to hold my purchase. I'm sad about the performance issues. Im going to buy this once all issues are resolved.
Currently playing rising for post game bonus, hope they address the issues on the next update
If you remove the shadows the fps improves vastly!
Thanks for the review, I found it really helpful.
I do have a question regarding the FPS issue on the Switch version; is this issue found when playing in both portable and docked modes or just in portable?
It's definitely not great docked. I played the steam closed beta (I'm a Kickstarter) on my steam deck and it plays real nice.
I might buy it on steam (again) because I want this game to succeed.
Hope a 2x combat speed when we want and that the load time speeds will be reworked for the combat and menu's. And as bonus if the framerate can be a it better would be great.
I backed this on Kickstarter and got the PS5 version. It wasn't even originally planned for the Switch but the devs had mentioned a possible release for the next Nintendo console. When Nintendo's successor system was obviously not coming in the near future, they re-examined the possibility of getting it to run on the Switch and decided it could be done. That's probably why it has issues running on the system. Regardless, I'm enjoying the game (on PS5) greatly.
They should've delayed it for the switch tbh...
@@justarandomlol that why they delay the physical copy for the switch
I don't think they were waiting on a next gen system, maybe the publisher for the game since all developers go through a publisher. but no i think they had a target date, but if the game was planned for Sony originally, it would've already been out by now. so i don't think that was the case, because Eiyuden Chronicle Rising is also on Xbox One. so this game was likely planned for a multi console release,
but given the Switch's hardware, they might've had to push the date back a little.
I backed it as well, and yeah. Switch wasn't the original system, but I moved my choice from Steam to Switch since that's how I prefer to play. I'm really sad to see it run like this since it sincerely dried out my desire to play it. Maybe I'll go back to it when a massive Steam sale appears.
@@animekingtokuthey didn't delay the physical copy though. I already got one not a backer as well got it from the day of its official release.
I'm torn. On one hand I want to play it now, but now I'm concerned about the issues that plague it. I was waiting until Friday anyway, so maybe some patch work by then will make it more tenable.
Wait, I bought it on switch. The loading and the framerate are annoying
i'd like to get this on switch will wait for a patch hopefully
Just got it switch version 1.01.
Yeah it could be better. But I am enjoying it so far about 3 hrs in
Just bought it, i lived in suikoden 2 so now the hype is real
Bummer but I’ll need to pass with all of these issues for now. Was excited for this one too
The blue dude better not betray me like Jowy did.
You better sit down, brother.
The devs betrayed everyone. Made with help from SBI.
I think I commented on other videos as well. Eiyuden Chronicles Hundred Heroes is worth it. Definitely a good game but not for the Switch currently, unless the Day 1 patch addresses the issues.
I just had a patch last night, play is a lot better. Though I have not experienced much issue playing even before the patch came. Enjoying this game a lot so far. Nostalgic!
People requested for a Suikoden game, and the producers gave it. So I don't know why are we complaining on features that are purely Suikoden in nature, that's what the game is all about.
Im still buying for the Switch Version of this title. Patches and Fix comes later and im going to take my time playing this Suikoden successor game.
idk why anyone uses a switch for any game that doesn't have online play. Steam deck and emulator runs switch games better than the switch itself but this game is on steam, so you don't even need an emulator to play it.
Tried the game on my Ryzen 7 , RTX 4060 8GB laptop last night and my laptop's fan is going full blast when I was playing it 1080p 60 fps... it quiet down to almost no fan when I choose the 30fps.
When I tried 60 fps 720p, the fan goes full blast again and it almost used all of the 8GB vram. The fan quiet down to whisper after I choose 30 fps again.
The 30 fps mode also is not a smooth 30fps on my laptop, it stutters here and there a bit.. not to the point of annoying but it's there... strangely in 60 fps for both 1080p and 720p, it was a smooth performance and didn't stutter once. Oh and SSD doesn't eliminate the loading screen for each battle initiated, it is shorter than Switch's version tho.
I think this game is seriously not an well optimized game, it relies on hardware's brute force to carry the game. So I wouldn't be surprised that Switch get the worse part of the port.
The game needs optimization on switch, i played it on pc gamepass and its smooth and almost 0 loads
I guess it's the "Souldiers" disease. Game runs fine on all other platforms while they rushed it out on Switch with horrible bugs and tedious long load times.
plays surprisingly well on the Xbox One and that's not much more powerful
than the Switch, your only talking about a 40% different. now im only talking
the og xbox one, not the One S or X which has a upgraded gpu, although more of a slight overclock, but even the cpu in the One S got a slight bump,
and it's the same cpu in the One X.
The only thing I had to do on PC was change the refresh rate on my monitor to fix the random encounters.
I’m going to defend this switch hardware there are some games that just shouldn’t be on the switch but this game is not one of them. The switch hardware was never a technical powerhouse to begin with and it’s seven years old but games like kingdom come deliverance shown that the switch is still a very capable system, when the developer is talented and knows what they’re doing with the hardware and understands it strokes and weaknesses it seems this performance is due to bad optimisation more than the switch hardware limitations. I love my switch and I still play it often people have short memories and forget that they’ve been some miracle games on the switch that quite frankly have no right to run as well as it does on the switch hardware but they do.
Switch is terrible hardware. I literally pirate games because Yuzu plays switch games on PC better than the actual switch. Like how you get out performed by your emulator
Can you play without joy con kla screen only ?
The fact that the Switch preorder is delayed is kind of a mixed blessing, now that they have enough time to patch out some of the bugs before my preorder comes in.
I want to play the demo first (if there is one)
I'll just grab it some day in the future when it's on sale.
It's 20% discount now for 2 weeks.
@@vickyfadlinada668 I mean when it's like really cheap, say $20 or less.
@@vickyfadlinada668 Well like a significant sale. When it's down to below $20.
@@ZeroPrime_Reviews gamepass exists
@@whitecloud2002 I prefer to mostly own my games, also more a Nintendo/Playstation person. Also, also not in a hurry to get it.
Do the loading times, frame rate issues, and soft lock issues all go away on PS4 or Xbox? That part wasn't clear. And do you need the newest, most expensive Xbox (Series S) to enjoy this game or what's the real deal? The weird thing about this review is I still want to buy this game even though I only own a Switch.
All I can tell you is that the PC version has none of these issues (after 6 hours of play). I think the issue is probably the lack of RAM in the Switch. I'm sure the developers will optimise the Switch version and remove most of these issues.
How does this compare to ocotpath 2
I hate that there’s so many characters and you get them so fast!!! I want to earn them slowly but surely and only 3 at a time that can be switched around like final fantasy. I really hate that part…it’s too much 😭
There are parts where you can switch out more than three sometimes.
You can lvl grind easy. Lower your lvl vs higher lvls the faster you lvl up
I played the game today and its good. I think most people over the years just got used to new age rpg elements and this game is stuck in the ps1 era
i kinda forseen the issue this game could have on the switch. originally when i kickstarted this game, i asked for the switch version, but changed to the ps5 version right before shipping. i am happy i did. it seems to run so much better on the ps5 though im only like 5 hrs in. i do miss the ability to play a game in handheld mode though. i like to play switch games in handheld mode and then have youtube running on my tv to have around as background noise.
I've been having fun with this so far. Definitely need to play Suikoden now
I backed the kickstarter and so happy I got the PS5 version. To me it’s a great game I’m having a lot of fun playing. Runs real good on the PS5.
They need improve loading more faster when start battle
Random encounters can be frustration on their own... And they added a 4+ loading to each encounter? Holy...
I’d caution anyone who plans to pick this game up for full price to check other JRPGs on the market first because this one is very average and I don’t think you’ll get your money worth with it as it is now.
Loading screens is part nostalgia? 😂
The Problem is: Rabbit and Bear first designed it for the Switch 2. Its make for Systems with SD. Even on the PS4 its not run well. But on Xbox Series or PC and PS5 its run Smoothly and the FPS and Colors are much better
Im on Series X and the load screens are EVERYWHERE
@@travisbplank yes..for a few Seconda..thats really Suikoden Nostalgi..nothing more ;)
@Tirigon I have nostalgia for Suikoden, not load screens that prevent me from playing Suikoden and break the flow of the game every few seconds.
@@travisbplank Dude...i play on Xbox Series S..there are only what 1 or 2 Seconds Loading Screen?
I hate that Gamers these days are so hateful: Bad Localisation..A few Seconds Loading Screen. ..The Switch Version hss real Issues!
Been playing this on my PS Portal, amazing game! Love it, definitely took me back to my childhood playing PS1 games grinding etc.
I really want to play it on Switch and have a physical copy but decided to get it on Steam instead for my Steamdeck.
not even sure why you'd want a switch outside of online play. For single player games? switch emulator on steam deck literally runs switch games better than the switch
Any news about a patch yet?
nope, the devs didn't even said anything about the switch shitty performance...
EDIT: I also saw that some people in the US are seeing discount for the game, this is a huge red flag to me. It just got released and it already has a discount.
Current patch is 1.0.3 on the switch and the game still has some issues and runs like crap
I wonder if there is any possibility for the developers of this game to solve these problems on the Nintendo Switch! I bought it yesterday and the performance really isn't good. If they at least correct the frame rate and loading then it would be perfect! I was thinking about buying the physical media when they launch it, but I'm afraid I'll run into the same problem!
Switch isn't a current gen console that's the issue. They're designing games for the current gen then gotta cut corners to port it to the switch
@@LilT2o00 I hope they release an update to fix these errors you are having on the Switch! If you improve the fps it will be great!
Hope the patch fix optimizations dont go like in bloodstained..or we are ruined i've dropped the switch version form iga for that reasons....poor optimozations on old hardware🤷😞
The game is legit a great jrpg
Is the deluxe edition worth it?
Bro, the need to fix those performance issues. It's rough.
Question: What the heck does this have to do with that Eiyuden Chronicle game released a year or two ago? Because judging from this footage, the answer is "very little."
The previous one is a different genre but takes place in the same world
@@grawman67 there's also data that can be uploaded to hundred heroes.
'Rising' from a couple of years ago was a bonus backer goal.
It was a short little prologue for this game to get to know some of the characters, that one was an action platformer though not a turn based JRPG like this one
@@nworder4life Oh, really? That's cool! Thanks!
Game is not made for the Switch hardware it's as clear as day. Feels like they added Switch as an afterthought. Runs so well on the PS5 though.
is it? I gotta play on my xbox through gamepass then since the switch can't run it well
@@syncronate Yeah, the PS5 version runs just fine. I would assume the Xbox one would as well.
8:14 I'm really worried about ridiculously long load times. This usually ruins a game for me.
ver 1.02 still lagging?
@@monoarticuler578 even 1.03 lags
I should have gotten the ps5 version when I backed it years ago but how could I have known it was gonna run that bad on switch. I can’t even play it right now because something with the frame-rate/pacing gives me a headache. I played the beta on steam deck and it was great, when they delayed the physical switch version they gave us all digital switch copies to hold us over. Kind of wish now it was a steam game key. I can’t justify buying this game again just so I can play it but I will be playing it on my steam deck one way or the other. Loved the beta and ultimately happy I backed the game but yeah my switch physical copy when it comes will stay sealed.
The switch performance sounds abysmal. I'd love to play this on the switch, and nothing about the visuals suggests that the switch shouldn't be able to manage. This is just bad optimization.
The visuals are fine on the switch, it's the framerate drops and long load times that are the problem.
You are right. Star Ocean The Second Story R runs absolutely fine on the Switch and I would say that game is just as 'demanding' as Eiyuden Chronicle.
Can someone tell me the difference between ASIA Region or USA Region of this game?
I heard this has dei locolisation in it so, not worth it.
Might this be a Sea of Stars style hit? I loved that game after trying the demo. It's a shame there's no demo offered for this, it lends itself to it, but £40-odd quid is a bit too steep for me.
I love Suikoden 💖💝
One other thing you forgot to mention in terms of gameplay, there's also one-on-one battles where you choose between offense and defense.
Something about the design aesthetic isn't satisfying. I believe Sea of Stars and Octopath Traveler have chosen a better design formula. Then again this the closest to old schools RPG there is so it is welcome. I would love to see a SCI- FI game with these kind of elements in the stye of Star Ocean 2 Remake. That visual style is superior I believe.
I spent 80h and got 100% and it was thr magical adventure we all wanted. The port isn't the best I don't recommend the switch version sadly but the game is amazing.
NO. There's so many crashes and infinite loading glitches that it's caused me to become disengaged in the whole plot of the game, since my main fear isn't whether I can defeat Dux, it's if the game's going to stop crashing.
Cutscenes like the song in Imperishi'Arc and the boss reveal of Harganthia consistently bugging out aren't helping either.
I went to pick up my copy at GameStop, today, and I was told it was pushed back until May. What gives?!
It’s my hope that it was held back for some polishing and will release patched on the physical edition.
I think the physical game was delayed for about a month. The problem is that even if the performance issues are sorted out, the physical copy will include the original buggy version.
@@carlstevenwilletts ah… not if they build the patch INTO the cart. Something similar is done with some games, such as *Breath of the Wild* re-launch in Japan and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge Anniversary Edition including DLC on the actual carts (not as download codes). There are other games that have seen physical releases with patches included on the cart, while the digital versions are the buggy originals until they are updated.
Fingers crossed.
can i just automate the battles all the way?
visually looks awesome
Not on switch lmao this looks so much worse than PC it's crazy
I might pickup on PC at some point. The mish mash of styles really bothers me. Hopefully a mod can fix it. The 3d enemies is really bothersome to me.
7 seconds loading before EVERY FIGHT??? to me this is just UMPLAYABLE......
Is it just me, or does the story sound a bit too similar to Suikoden 2? Like... I get it , it was good but did they just copy & paste the plot?
This is good playing on steam deck and other handheld PC.
Game would look btr with no text story scenes then
I just crawled for reviews for NS.. Agree with the performance call out here. But it seems the reviewer has not finished the game or forgot to mention that there is a teleport system to make things faster. Plus this is inspired by an old JRPG so expectation wise is, the game mechanics and gimmicks will be based on traditional game inspired by this, Suikoden. If you have not played Suikoden before, there is going to be little appreciation to how the game was designed. Better for RPGs is to review it to the end or maybe for NS version, they gave up due to its performance bottleneck.
Ouch, a 6 sounds a bit harsh. It sounded more like a 7.5...
Without the switch performance woes, I would agree. But docking points for the state on switch feels fair.
Nah 6/10 is pretty dead on for this one, tons of potential but I think they just completely missed the mark, there is a reason why QoL is so important to so many gamers, most gamers won't want to slog through a mid quality JRPG just because it's "nostalgic", after beating it last night I would say this game is nostalgic to its own determinat, octopath traveler 2 did it just last year with tremendous success, and OT2 didn't even have that much more QoL than hundred heroes but the quality was so good that it didn't matter, if you want to have a successful JRPG in 2024 you gotta have some QoL, save points are fine but they have to have more of them, and we should be able to fast travel to areas we have already visited, even star ocean the second story r has fast travel, you can do retro style games with QoL and still be widely successful, both square Enix and gemdrops proved this just last year, like I said the game has tons of potential, but they took the nostalgia way too far and it hurt the game, I didn't play to "experience a story" , I played to actually play a video game, and for the most part the game just felt like a vessel to tell a story, for the most part it just felt like the story was told to me from a 3rd person perspective, like I was watching an anime, maybe that's my fault from expecting an actual RPG where I could build each character the way I wanted but to me this just doesn't feel like a traditional RPG, it felt more like a visual novel with a low quality combat system tacked on at the last minute, im still glad I backed the game and glad I played it, and putting the focus into story is fine as long as the gameplay is already good, but the gameplay felt secondary, which in an actual video game is unacceptable imo
@@mathewhosier9739 Let's be honest, most player dont even glance at JRPG's. A few QoL features arent going to bring in that many players who arent already into the genre.
look guys, i played this game for about 20 hours. I love it but, why the f. is there gameplay footage thats even later in the game?
I had high hopes for this game but so far I don't know what it is but it's just not hitting like suikoden. Maybe it's TOO much like suikoden? I don't know. Maybe I'm just moody today. I think the game could use higher difficulties beyond hard mode as well...this game is incredibly easy.
The game is Suikoden, period.
Nostalgia does a great job in making things seem much better than they actually were. Star Ocean The Second Story R has enhancements that make the game live up to the nostalgia. Eiyuden Chronicle just gives us a better looking Suikoden. As much as I am enjoying it, It does nothing to compensate for the lack of nostalgia.
@@carlstevenwilletts QOL changes don't belong in Suikoden.
I am shocked at whenever I hear about performance issues from games like this when Xenoblade 3 and ToTK runs smoothly on the Switch.
Trying to appease the Switch players wasn't bad, the devs were just met with task garder than they had thought.
I will buy this only if they patched it up for the Switch

Low framerates and long load times go with Switch like bread n butter.
Obviously, this will happen if the switch isn’t the hardware that the game was designed for in the first place. Haters will always blame the switch hardware for every little thing.
@@Adamtendo_player_1 nah switch hardware is garbage. I literally only play online first party games on the switch. Steam deck and switch emulator runs literally every single player switch game better than the actual switch does
I am going to avoid it due to the atrocious localization.
Sooooooooooo glad I got this on PS5 😁
8:16 I played about an hour on Series X and was like "man, there's a lot of loading screens".
If it takes longer to load on the Switch I can imagine it becomes a pain in the butt.
Nintendo really needs to release a next generation switch, the hardware is way too outdated.
The damn boar quest is NOT a long run, the random combat is boring but its not a long run.
Nintendo need to sort their shit out and release a better switch well overdue now smh
Having low load times is the reason why i play on switch :D so this game sadly is a No Go for me
ah yes, prove thy worth seeker!
Plus, I knew it's gonna be Zion. 😅
the loading screens is sucking all the fun out of the game.
Random encounters + loading screens in&out of fights is ruining the experience.
When the game looks like a PS2 game, there’s no reason for it to run so poorly on Switch
The graphics are so bad, the characters look like they are ps1
Just cause it looks like a ps1 game doesn't mean the overall mechanics don't push the system to its limit. Many games strain systems based of in games effects and movements, especially when it's as detailed as this game. So if the switch can't handle it, that means there is too much going on
Why cant the Switch run this PS1 looking game well? The Switch is suposed to be more powerful than a PS3, not weaker than a PS1?
