    Omg. This video showed me my reality. I always sounded like a kid's voice with authority. Alhamdulillah just in couple of minutes I've learned so much from this channel. Alhamdulillah. Jazakallah khayran

    The pinch test really helps explain the concept. I hadn't ever tried it with counting.

    Wa iyyakum ... glad I was able to help. Keep practicing this by the way ... our voices have "memory" and we tend to go back to old habits (like nasality) based on how our mind expects our voice to sound ... have to keep practicing until old habits are broken and new ones are formed

    This is exactly same as what my shiekh (here in saudi arabia) told me to do when i had that nasality problem.. at the beginning it might feels weird a little bit, but whith practicing by pinching the nose while reciting will help a lot..
    Jazak allah khairan brother..

  • @IdreesAllyMaqamat
    @IdreesAllyMaqamat  Před 10 lety +7

    It's just a feeling/sensation that you have to get by being self-aware. For example if you're being nasal and you pinch your nose, you'll "feel" that the sound is being blocked, and you'll "feel" where the sound is resonating and bouncing around. In the case of nasality it's bouncing around too high. So you need to imagine that you're taking that ball of sound and moving it lower so that it can flow freely out of your mouth. A bit hard to describe but hope that helps!

    Sir I salute you. This is a brilliantly accessible way to test for, and correct, nasality. My job in IT involves giving advice and collaboration and I know that my nasality is distracting and undermines my authority. Thank you so much.

    @loyalrobot it's not best to speak directly about specific reciters who are far better than us. As a general comment though, we can say that it's possible for someone to have a lot of nasality but still recite beautifully (in terms of their tune) ... this goes back to the difference in tune vs. tone which we covered in the ebook

    @myp786 let's walk through it again ... try holding your nose and say a word like "HELLO". Do you feel any major vibration in your nose? If you have low nasality you shouldn't feel any major vibration. Now try holding your nose and say a word like "NINETEEN" ... you should feel the vibration on your fingers because of the "N" sound. Does this work for you?

    I don't know if it's helpful but sometimes I pretend I have a blocked nose and recite. I'm sure most people can do a "blocked nose" voice, right? When you get good at it then you allow noon and meem to come the nose though.
    I got this tip from a Tajweed teacher from Burkina Faso masha Allah - I think Tajweed is the only science you can learn without needing to know the same language as the teacher :-)

    what about when the word ends in a noon or meem? For example, SAJEEDEEN or LEEN is it ok for nasal sound on the "EE" before the noon, or should the nasal sound only start when you pronounce the noon.

    Salaam brother, I have a natural vibration in my voice and I know for a fact that the sound is not coming from my noise but from my throat or voice. How do I control my voice?

    • @IdreesAllyMaqamat
      @IdreesAllyMaqamat  Před 8 lety

      depends how much of a vibration - if your voice is shaking wildly up and down, then that's a problem and it's something you need to work on controlling. See a video I have called "exercise: going up and down in pitch". But if it's what we might think of as a pleasant natural vibration, then that's a good thing!

    • @mmalka6098
      @mmalka6098 Před 8 lety

      +ReciteinTune i would say its a lot of vibration and almost sounds as if I'm doing ghunnah all the time. However, I am able to control the pitch but you see i have a deep voice and I need a way of controlling that 'pleasant natural vibration'.

    • @IdreesAllyMaqamat
      @IdreesAllyMaqamat  Před 8 lety

      if it sounds like you're doing ghunna all the time, then this is excessive nasality. If you pinch your nose when you have that sound, and it blocks/stops the sound, then you'll be able to tell if it's coming from your nose. Unfortunately via text messages like this it's hard for me to tell exactly what's going on

    • @mmalka6098
      @mmalka6098 Před 8 lety +1

      +ReciteinTune okay thats fine and is it okay if I send you a recording to make things clear?

    When I pinch my nose, there is no difference in my voice.....What does that mean?

    • @IdreesAllyMaqamat
      @IdreesAllyMaqamat  Před 9 lety +3

      must mean that your sound is coming properly from your mouth (i.e. you have little/no nasality) ... which is good!

      +Khawla Ahmed absolutely no one should be laughing at you, especially not your loved ones. Keep on reciting - your reward will be with Allah. Having said that, if you do want to reduce the nasality I would suggest just working through the exercise in this video, and another video on our channel called "Nose-Pinch Test (part 2)"

      You can also search in google "how to reduce nasality" or something similar - this is a voice issue, not a Quran issue so you can take benefit wherever you find it

      I've noticed that I started getting better at holding my breath after I had lost 35 lbs (I'm still like 15 lbs overweight) and after I practiced how to properly breathe and hold my breath using my diaphragm. Qari Yunus Desai from Azaadville also recommends his students to practice diaphragmatic breathing.
