  • I think this was my fourth time visiting Amsterdam, but this stay was my longest by far, and I really got to see many of the highlights (check the time codes below to see a specific site) this capital city has to offer. We covered most of the top tourist things to see and do. Like any European city, the main square is the heartbeat of the city, so we started in Dam Square, did a tour of the Royal Palace, which is in Dam Square, visited the notorious Red-Light District, went on two different canal cruises from two different locations, and walked on Amsterdam's most famous bridge, The Skinny Bridge, where I tell you where it got its name. I explain why Amsterdam's houses are narrow and tilted, give you a tour of the Anne Frank House, explaining the history behind why the house and Anne Frank's diary is so famous and I tell you the best way of getting tickets. We then visit several of the churches in Amsterdam, including Amsterdam's oldest building, Oude Kerk, and the church located in Dam Square, Nieuwe Kerk. I took my first tram ride in Europe (from Leidseplein to Dam Square), even though I've been to 20 European countries. We then visit one of Europe's iconic train stations, Centraal Station, and then to Europe's largest day market, the Albert Cuyp Market, where we see how the delicious stroopwafels are made. We then do a quick tour of the Houseboat Museum, explain what the Mint Tower (Muntorren) is, walk around the only floating flower market in the world, Bloemenmarkt, and lastly, we check out the Leiseplein area for its food and nightlife. If you go to the end of the video, you can click on the video links to see my tours of the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museums, and to two great day trips from Amsterdam, Keukenhof Gardens and Zaanse Schans.
