Modern engine control modules or E C M circuits have the job of providing the main fuel injection computer with two types of power feed, switched power and permanent power feed. Permanent power is a simple connection to the 12.6 volts battery voltage source right through a protection fuse. The other side of the circuit is the switched power supply. This power supply is done through a relay, but keep in mind that as simple as this wiring is, it also controls the entire E C M operation. From the switched power supply, the E C M also senses this 12 volt input and powers the fuel pump relay. If there's no crank sensor input meaning that the engine hasn't been started and is not cranking, then the E C M cuts the activation to the fuel pump relay in order to prevent it from functioning while the engine is Off.
The circuit presented here is a fairly non complicated circuit, but it serves as the basis of understanding how E C M circuits are wired. It also serves as a guide in the event that, as it is often done today, the owner of an older, vintage or collectible vehicle wants to switch to a fuel injection system. In many cases older carburetors are either non repairable due to parts or they are too expensive to keep them in operation. So, it pays to take them out of commission until the owner wants to sell his vehicle. Aftermarket cost effective fuel injection systems are now very much available and simple to set and program.
Here is how this circuit operates ... Get the whole story right now in this video...Enjoy...

Yes, usually to avoid ground noise. Naturally, since floating ground is not normal battery ground it is not prone to noise. This is why FG is used largely on radio circuitry.

Thank you so much and very helpful, have you ever seen any car manufacturer using floating ground for any sensor.

Yes it does. In fact I've seen some ECMs with as many as 7 separate grounds. Each feeding a different side of the system and separate sensors. As a rule O2 grounds are separate.
A ground is a RELATIVE measurement. So, usually ground is Neg. battery terminal, but if you take a resistor or voltage divider network and take your ground point after it, then that's floating ground. It is called floating because the reference point is something else other than battery ground or Neg. Hope that helps.

Also is there a reason why floating ground is used. Again thanks very much

hi does ECM have multiple sensor ground or just one sensor ground. Also what is floating ground and how is it different from regular ground.

Most cars today are digital coded, so that's not that simple anymore... Anyhow, that's no the intent of this video series. Thanks for posting.

Code P0656 is actuator code low voltage. Check wiring and fuses. Here's our Code Wizard Software that'll help with that... sites.fastspring.com/autodiagnosticsandpublishing/product/diyautomotivecodewizard
