    One of the best skating defensemen I have ever seen...Coffey, Orr, Niedermayer, Karlsson...if I could skate like these guys, I would rule my weekend warrior games. Coffey had one of the best outlet passes I have ever seen....65 feet on the fly, out of the zone, tape-to-tape. That was always such a pretty sight. I had forgotten how much Coffey got moved around later in his career...too bad he never got traded to Vancouver to play with Bure and Mogilny. Those crazy outlet passes would have given those 2 guys a guaranteed breakaway every game, HahA! Thanks for posting!

    Coffey was the best defenceman I ever saw play, the man was amazing. I find his career very interesting.
    He had a chance to win 9 cups (5 with EDM, 2 PITT, 2 DET) but won only 4 due to being dealt by teams just before they won.
    He also played with the 3 best centremen ever to play the game. Gretzky, Lemieux, Yzerman.

    • @tymeryder7436
      @tymeryder7436 Před 2 lety +3

      He also played with Lindros. Yes, he potentially could have won 9 cups, plus the '95 loss with the Wings to the Devils (potentially 10 cups). He was top scorer for the Wings that season (ahead of Yzerman and Federov). He also was mysteriously traded by the Kings to the Wings just before their '93 playoff run to the finals. He might have made the difference for the Kings vs Habs in that series...potentially earning him 11 cups (tied with the Pocket Rocket for most cups).

    I will never forget watching the 1996 Conference Finals. In the same game Coffey scored 2 goals for the Red Wings and then scored an own goal for the Avalanche. If I recall correctly the Avalanche won that game in overtime and the series. Myself and my friends mockingly joked that Coffey had scored a hat trick. We all hated Coffey for his constant blunders when he played for Detroit. We made fun of him constantly. I regret not giving him the respect he deserved, but then again I was just 10 years old at the time.....

    Coffey was one of the best passers ever! Many times he would have the puck at his own end and hit a forward-usually Gretzky for a breakaway or an out numbered attack. Gretzky never played with another great passing defensemen. All the defensemen he played with after Coffey were better with the puck.

    Great extra forward. With another team, it wouldn't have worked. If I'm behind or on the power play, I'll take him. I prefer my defensemen to play some defense. Besides their offensive skill, the Oilers also had a fantastic goalie in Fuhr. During his time with Edmonton, I'll take Bourque over him any day.

    • @biscuitsforsmut2791
      @biscuitsforsmut2791 Před 5 lety

      Why? Bourque was no game changer. He was good. But obviously, not good enough, to help win a cup with Boston. He was a training wheel, on a Colorado team, that would have won without him.

      @amazinmets8439 Před 5 lety

      @@biscuitsforsmut2791 100% agree with you. Bourque is overrated in my opinion. He was a stat compiler who couldn't bring a Cup to Boston despite MANY opportunities. Coffey was a game changer. Leetch was a game changer. MacInnis was a game changer. All these guys have HISTORIC playoff runs. Bourque doesn't. He was a "solid" consistent Dman his entire career, but not a game changer.
