The light switch panel assembly is a great idea. Would totally buy a kit, either fully assembled with a harness leading to the VP-X or just a nice vacuum formed (or other process) plastic panel to build it up myself.

Evan. Great video thanks. Noticed your brake reservoir connection through the firewall, as opposed to running the plastic tubing through a grommet. Would you share what couplings you used to achieve this - on both sides and through the firewall?
Love the suggestions and adjustments on this edition. I’m a long ways away from the overhead console or firewall forward part. I have been wondering if there is a way to improve the center console section to move the brake lever to be included with the throttle quadrant so you could control everything (throttle/brake/brake-lock) with one hand vs. having to take your hand off the throttle, onto the brake lever and then use a second hand to lock the break. Seems to me there is a real opportunity there. Plus in looking at the center console/control quadrant I’m sure going to be looking for a way to flush-mount the screws holding that all together. Heck - it’s the one area where I’d be willing to dabble with carbon fiber... Let me know if you want to discuss the throttle quadrant idea a bit... I’d be happy to help develop that idea.
Maybe I don’t understand your idea fully, but it sounds like you want to have one lever that you pull back and it decreases throttle and applies brake as you pull back. If so, it won’t work. At least not purely mechanically. You need to be able to cut power fully to land, but the engine won’t idle there happily. I’ve actually got some cool ideas coming for the throttle quadrant though, stay tuned!
@@EvanBrunye there actually would be two separate controls on the throttle lever... I saw something like it on the Sling4 control lever... I’ll have to see if I can find a picture of it somewhere. The Sling4 control wasn’t for breaking but I think was related to the engine or something from what I understand. I can kind of see it in my thinking of how it should work. In other words, the forward/idle of the throttle would stay as it is, there would be a new lever added to the throttle quadrant which would be pulled up (harder is more breaking) with a button to hold/release the break. I hope that makes more sense. I am hoping you’ll have some of the alternate parts listed as I’ll be very interested in added a number of these onto my build.
@@ibgarrett hmm interesting. That small lever was to unlock a throttle stop to allow for full throttle/turbo for short periods of time. You might be able to make something like that work, but the brake lever takes a fair bit of force. Seems like a reasonable enough idea that if it works would be really cool. Just a bit risky if it doesn’t work right!
@@EvanBrunye Yeah - I've got the how it should work in my head, but not the mechanics of the process... it would help if I sat down and learned a bit of solid works to make sure it is a viable process. Having to take your hand off the throttle to manage the brakes has been one of the few areas with the Sling where I feel like that could be improved a bit.

The Tsi owner Mike, self built and did the dash and consul carbon. He also runs air con, and is looking at an intercooler upgrade. He flys out of a strip called Heck Field, and has a hangar (where he built the Tsi) directly across from the Australian Sling agent, Errol who trades as GAP Aero (I believe until 2020 Errol had built and sold more Slings than the team at Torrens) so making contact through Mike or James should be easy. If you are not already talking with these guys, you should be, because the ideation is parallel to yours. Have some fun today.
Hi Evan, great update. I have 3 questions if you don't mind: I've been making a light switch panel to put on the canopy too, but with the carling contura type illuminated rocker switches, so it's bit bigger (vertically). (1) My quadrant would come down about 7-8 cm from the canopy -- how much does your stick out (i.e., at that size, would it block your vision)? I ask because I am still undecided if I need it smaller using either the push button or toggle switches. (2) That's quite a few cables that you'll have to feed (I'm assuming) from the back of the plane making them come up from the back window with the lights cables and then extend the hole in between the inner and outer plies from the front cabin lights to the console. You have no worries about how easy it will be to maintain/feed cables through, etc if something breaks? I ask because I was wondering about making an entire console from there to the rear passenger seat (which also allows other customization) so I could put the cables in between that and the canopy instead. (3) What material are you planning on using for it? (sorry, so many questions I feel like I should be shining a light in your eyes and yelling them to you... LOL). Cheers
Those switches will be too big. Mine is only about 4cm from the top of the canopy at its lowest point. It also depends on where you fit the lowest point in relation to the curve of the canopy. I can’t answer all your questions for you, it all depends on what your skill, experience, and design requirements are. Just be very careful to think through all design elements ahead of time
