As linebacker Andy Russell recalled, this was a time, early in Joe Greene's career, when the Steelers' defensive tackle was appreciably "unblockable". Thanks for investing the time and effort to furnish your many viewers with another rare gem of NFL history.
@@Fireyninjadog He would not only shed blocks with his quickness in attacking angles and gaps, but early in his career Greene was just massively strong upper body wise and would just throw lineman if he couldn't get around them. The Aaron Donald of the early seventies

I don't miss them but I will admit that Riverfront Stadium wasn't a bad stadium to watch a game. I saw a lot of great Reds and Bengals games there. I also attended one Expos game in Olympic Stadium and 2 Braves games in Fulton County Stadium. They were very similar stadiums. Fulton County didn't look like one of the cookie cutters on TV, maybe because they always had a grass field (I could be wrong about that), but when you were sitting in that stadium you could tell it was built just like Riverfront Stadium.
Riverfront Stadium magnificent? Hardly. The only thing that made it memorable was the fact it was always on display during MLB postseason time in the 1970’s.
Jesus, Terry Hanratty was one of the worst QBs in NFL history. The Steelers had a history of drafting terrible QBs just because they played at Notre Dame.
@@davidmitchell6873 Montana didn't have a howitzer for an arm and his quick decision making in the early days of the west coast offense did make him a household name. But his accuracy on down the field throws separated him from the rest. You saw this many times when Jerry Rice arrived and you saw this early on with Freddie Solomon and Dwight Clark
Good old days for sure.

As always, Thanks Comrade
Great stuff thanks.
Bill Walsh invented the west coast offense for Virgil Carter who could not throw the deep ball.
RIP Greg Cook
R.I.P. Chip Myers...
Not sure why NFL Films highlighted this as their GOTW as first place Oakland beat San Diego on a late field goal by Blanda, 20-17.

🤣 And then they missed on Joe Montana Lol
Montana wouldn't have been successful in Pittsburgh, he needed the west coast offense or he would have been an NFL journeyman.
Hanratty didn't do much for the Notre Dame fighting Irish either. He was the weak interlude between Theismann and Montana for them.

In the clips shown here, his mechanics look terrible. It makes you wonder about the coaching he got at Notre Dame and from the Steelers.
