  • Hey! My name is Mariano, and this channel was created to share some poker sessions and travel.
In this episode, I play some $10-$20 NL at the world famous Bellagio. Things don't really go as expected... which I guess is to be expected?

meadydoheny. Have you been watching his channel for a while? Mariano as far as I can tell has consistently been winning and moving up stakes. Building up his bankroll. Sucks to take a shot at a bigger game and be card dead or run into big hands. At least he still showed it. That’s class in my books.

@@jagparhar260 well of course it's good to depict reality. Given his frequency of play and the cost of living, I still highly doubt poker is his main gig and I'm pretty sure he's admitted he's not a pro (for most people, that means poker isn't their main source of income). Ive watched all his vlogs and my assumption isn't one made to discredit him nor denounce the quality of content
Tom Dwan was an exceptional cash game player with tremendous results on PAD and HSP...but I don't buy his "humble beginnings" story of "running up $50 on Party Poker"🙄 that story is pure ad-placement.

I give him credit, but it’s a lot easier to have balls than it is to do (mostly) everything right.
I mean, considering everything, there’s always that possibility that it was foolish to play in this game. Everybody seems to give everybody credit for “shot taking “, but if it’s not perfectly in line with the way things should flow, it could be spewing.

    @Gorf_Denroh Před 3 lety +18

A few lessons learned from beating mid-stakes, especially in Vegas:
    1. When you make small c-bets without a made hand, and then find yourself checking two streets because you didn't improve, you are just giving money away...not to mention you become extremely exploitable. Either make larger c-bets (e.g., 75%-100% pot), check-raise, or just check-fold and cut your losses. Don't make small flop bets, even with the nuts, especially multi-way, and definitely not when out of position.
    2. If you are going to take passive post-flop lines, then you are generally better off check-calling more and c-betting less. You keep the pot smaller, can catch your opponent bluffing, and can take stabs (i.e., apply pressure) on the River vs. the Flop if the situation allows. Bloating the pot on the flop without a made hand, out of position, is a losing strategy, especially when you don't improve and then show weakness. At that level, your small c-bets are going to get called every time.
    3. Nobody is forcing you to play hands like AQ and AJ. No shame in folding those preflop. Don't force the action and build big pots with hands like those preflop, especially in EP. Instead, either fold or take a passive line. If you don't smash the flop, you can just fold to aggression. Or, you can exploitatively bluff your opponents on later streets if they themselves show weakness and/or the board texture supports the story that you played a trappy line with a very strong made hand (e.g., two pair, sets, trips, boats, straights, etc.). Especially at 10/20, the regs and grinders pride themselves on making tight folds, especially to players they consider to be nitty. But your story better make sense, and don't try to bluff the whale. He'll call you just to see it.
    4. Most importantly! Have a pre-flop limping range from EP and MP. This is very different than lower stakes, including 2/5, where limps and min-raises are just pot sweeteners for all the ragged hands to call. Same for min-raising. For example, 75% of the time, limp or min-raise all suited Aces, pocket pairs 7 and lower, 78s, and JTs. The other 25% you can standard raise or just fold. Likewise, 25% of the time limp or min-raise AA, KK, QQ, JJ, and AKs,. If you get raised, you re-raise AA, KK, QQ, and A5s. You can either call or fold the other hands...depending on the raise, your position, and how many other players are in the hand. Never limp or min-raise 8's - 10's. Just raise those directly, or flat if raised to you. You're playing those hands strictly to win the blinds or set-mine anyway.
    5. When taking stabs at bigger games, play tighter than you normally would. It's better to get exploited and learn from it than try to run over a table of players with bigger bankrolls and a lot more experience. You could fold every hand except for AA, pay your time rake, and just learn from watching and being in the flow. That'll go a lot further than booking a huge loss early in your career.
If you do these things, you'll minimize losses when you are running badly, and you'll win more when you are running well.

    • @elyastoohey6621
      @elyastoohey6621 Před 3 lety +1

One thing I think you have to appreciate, whenever you move up a pay grade, is that it’s literally moving up a division.
Some of the faces form the previous price range may be there, but the competition is just that next level.
The good 5-10 players may join in on 10-20 sometimes. But they’re mediocre.
Those 10-20 guys can be sharks. Dealing with pots the size some guys take home from work each day. They play those within 3-5 minutes.
But playing with better competition forces you to get better.
Mariano plays pretty well on the smaller tables.
Not perfectly or amazingly. But pretty well. Seems to generate consistent $500 profits. Which work out it sounds like to about $50 an hour. Not too bad.
Where his weakness lies, and is highlighted in this vlog. Is that he seems to play a much stricter gto style. Playing hands like you woukd on the trainer.
That’s good. But at higher stakes, with guys who know gto well. They then will add a meta game.
This guy plays strict gto. Suggesting his range is x,y,z from his sizing.
My hand sucks, but if I bet this, he will interpret my hand as this.
That is the beauty of playing higher stakes.
They force you to hone your game even more. Otherwise you will lose a lot.

Your analysis that there is only one combination of QJ suited is brilliant. I know it’s tough in the moment, and I’m sure I don’t have to even say it, but it makes total sense that he has 99 in that spot given the preflop action. As you said, it’s only 77, 88, 99, 1010, really.

Mariano love your videos and I'm glad you went for your goal of a bigger game. didn't see much bad play, just one of those dead card days, hopefully next time will be better.
it would be cool if you could give a little rundown of who is at your table (whether they are known or you just give general descriptions), or describe the surroundings, something more than just "we're getting in a game, here's the first hand..." to help us viewers feel more in the moment with with you. just a suggestion. I love the production and photog quality of your video, keep it up and better luck next time

Sometimes no matter how you play, and no matter what cards you get….you just can’t seem to win many hands! I’ve had sessions like this one where I get so many good hands and they either completely WHIFF or I finally flop something decent and get out flopped or drawn out on 🙄

  • @prolibra72

Keep grinding brother. The first time i went up to 10/20 i was fortunate to have several winning sessions in a row and quickly added 25K to my roll. It gave me confidence going forward and 10/20 became my usual game. But i have had several soul crushing sessions and you just have to fight through it.. someone else commented correctly that it’s useful to just walk around or end a session prematurely now and then.

  • @paulhamilton5420

Nice growth in your playing. You’re doing very well. “Warning “ though... you need to avoid what is known as “winners tilt “ . It happens when you get a serious bump to your bankroll/ bad beat. Shake it off and focus. Get up take a short walk or end the session unless you’re up to playing through it. My longest session was 17 hours at the bike . Played through the bad of being stuck $1700 to winning $ 1400 . Then got up and cashed out.

Technically speaking mr pocket 3’s was the favourite in that all in. His offer to run it twice was actually quite polite.
Your odds were about 46-54 give or take a rare split pot. Considering the stack that was already comitted though and any other seperate bets or dead money,
You could have been getting good or better odds on your own money.

Awesome video! I love the jump to 10/20. I have a question about the first hand. I completely agree that the 1087 flop favors your opponent, but if you could replay it, would you bet the flop? As you correctly mentioned, when you check twice, your hand is completely face up, and you leave yourself open to being bluffed on the river. I'm just playing armchair quarterback here, but betting on the flop seems like it might result in you winning the pot - at least some of the time. What are your thoughts?

Nothing wrong with taking that up shoot in limits. Just too bad the session went the way it did. Wouldn't have been so bad if it had been a little of back and forth. Nothing wrong with the 2-5 or the 5-10 at the Bellagio to get that $ back.
