- In this video, we have a look at hoe. The newly planted crops are coming along. We look at some of the floods left by the heavy rain over the last week. There’s a big cleanup after the herd test and we get the sick bay ready for animals.

Great video Gerry did you ever consider fish farming . The rain was biblical in our community centre in Philipstown the water came in the ESB duct lucky it came in during the day if it happened at night the place would have been flooded . Best of luck with the test👍

Just wondering how come you don't have a muck-out pen instead of putting the muck into ur silage trailer
I have a place to tip dung. But not here in yard. I usually tip it in little green tipping trailer but silage trailer has been moving dung last few weeks and hasn’t been washed yet so I’m using it.
Hi gerry great video plenty of content, Ye have super amount of concrete around the farm yard. Is it very expensive to put concrete like that down these days. ?
It is expensive now.but a lot of our concete is down 15 year plus when it was a bit easier done. Wouldn’t like to be doing it now to be honest

What type of cattle do you buy in in terms of age, breed and weight.. What do you think is the best cattle fattening ration and do ye think it is cheaper to grow crops, buy in grains or feed a nut form ration
Is there river maintenance in your area gerry that seems to be a problem nationwide which is annoying
None. Nonexistent. They actually want you to let it flood here in farm land so to save flooding in town. They don’t want you cleaning rivers. Joke
once the bord off works cleaned the rivers now its the opw who are responsible annd tat can be hit and miss ur a busy man gerry
@gerry6420 Well Gerry. Another class video - always enjoy them. Serious operator. I remember watching the previous flooding video as well. At the time, ACRES was coming online and I think there are payments available for farmers who farm on floodplains. I would like to think this would be expanded out in the future as its not something you can tap into at the minute where you are farming. Flooding isn't going away and the state is unlikely to go dredging every river that floods floodplain in the country. Louth already has a pretty poor track record on rivers with exception to a few spots in north of the county so there's a pressure to improve things.
Would it be worth planting the floodplain up with native broadleaf? There's some good 10-20 premiums out there at the minute for it.
Good to highlight the flooding either way - certainly doesn't make life easy for anyone trying to make a bob off the land. Keep it up 👍
Do you own the smyth trailer? Looks like the 3650 would struggle with it 🤔
