This is BOC’s first concept album; being exposed to the horrors of the world on TV but not being able to understand them yet (side A) while maintaining childhood innocence but internalizing that worldview into creative growth (side B). “Tomorrow’s Harvest” comes full circle.
I`ve been a BoC listener for like 20 years and this album had my attention back there. But somehow this album has evolved in my mind today and its like the best of BoC.
@@connor48880 True, and the fact that it was released in '96 and the songs were from the '86 to '96 period. So maybe they brought some friends and family in their studios from time to time showing off what they were cooking and now they got it all bundled up for them. Or I must be overthinking again.
Yeah the old tunes/tapes vibe is definitely to create an air of mystery and lore. Almost 100% certain these were new tunes at the time, made to sound old
Having an official release of Old Tunes 1+2 and Random35 would be awesome, but unlikely, since clearing up the red tape for all the samples used would be a nightmare :\
One of the greatest and most underrated artists of all time. I live about 10 minutes from the Pentland Hills just outside of Edinburgh. I’ve driven for hours listening to tapes like this and wondering if or when I may have come close to Hexagon Sun
My dad always told me Jesus Christ Superstar was a godlike album but I never listened to it, Heysanna Hosanna from this album got me hooked, i'll definitely have to listen to it when I am prepared.
This album had a weird effect on me. I put slices of lemon peel under the glare of a lamp post, then removed them and filmed the empty pavement afterwards, for no apparent reason.
@@JasonBoon02same with a few other tracks on this album, I mean I've always found it weird that almost no one slowed samples to give them a surreal atmosphere, it seems so obvious now, but BoC were ahead of the curve

“Tomorrow’s Harvest” comes full circle.
That's a very cool synopsis.
This has quickly become my favorite BoC album
This music connects with my soul in a deep way.
This album is an entire music category in itself.
I`ve been a BoC listener for like 20 years and this album had my attention back there. But somehow this album has evolved in my mind today and its like the best of BoC.
I love how they called this Old Tunes when they released it, when it was New Tunes
That’s my favorite part about it!
They knew that one day, they would be old tunes, so they called it old tunes
That’s thinking ahead

Ultimate favorite of boards of canada's albums
This one hits me much deeper than their other stuff.
Such smart, beautifully arranged- Chicken Soup Music for ur Very Soul..
Boards of Canada is more like some kind of mind therapy that actually works :)
I really wish iced cooly beatnik was longer. It's so vibey.
Mukhinabaht is sooo good
We think alike aahhha⛷
David Came To Mahina'im is also one good fucking banger.
@@JasonBoon02 I love it when internet stranger bring me back to good music by commenting lol

Bucky High - Buckfast High?

we have youtube at least :)
both tapes are so fucking good
How were they this EERIE even so far back?! Their innate ability with tones, sounds and samples to create such unsettling and odd music? Love it!
It’s because they didn’t polish this as much as the songs on the public stuff.
@@faithnamer Good thought, though I guess that was just what it was rather than deliberate.
@@faithnamerit's not just lofi though, they obviously did a lot with the samples and tones just like they do on their studio releases
@@isaiahromero9861 they BARELY sample cleared too.
@@faithnamer this wasn't even meant to be publicly released so I doubt they even bothered clearing any of it
Who else thinks staircase whip and statue of liberty would go well as background music on those liminal space vids from a while back?
Yup! Very liminal.
Best on Side B for me is Buckie High > I Love My New Shears
i call listening to this album "going to church"
One of the greatest and most underrated artists of all time. I live about 10 minutes from the Pentland Hills just outside of Edinburgh. I’ve driven for hours listening to tapes like this and wondering if or when I may have come close to Hexagon Sun
Extremely psychedelic
This is imo the best BoC body of work

Kiteracer 2
I hope it will be released on vinyl
Good remaster, my dude.
Powerline Misfortune ended up on Geogaddi
I can't understand why Warp or Skam don't have the original recordings mastered and released. Any BOC fan would buy it.
this was experience
The day i hear any of this in a commercial or tv show is the day i might lose it...
Oh, this happened so many times already. Don't worry, the music by BoC came to survive mankind.
you've heard old tunes 2 music in a commercial ?
