Boards of Canada - Random 35 Tracks Tape (Noise Reduction Removal)
Vložit
- čas přidán 15. 07. 2024
- A restoration of the 320kbps rip of BoC's Random 35 tracks tape, getting rid of the destructive artifacts the noise reduction applied in the original rip caused (reverse reverb, loss of highs and transients etc), and bringing back the details and tape hiss to give a better idea of what the original tape rip sounded like with no processing done to it.
Clicks caused by CD skipping and track changes were fixed by theniski, can't thank him enough for the help: / @theniski

Track A09 28:48 sounds like the national anthem to a country that never existed.
have you ever heard of the man from Taured?
It's insane how great it sounds now. It's my favourite "album" because of how eclectic and primitive it is. I feel like switchng from 64kbps to 320kbps. Thank you so much , I cannot express how happy I am.
B12 still makes me fall into this endless pit of sorrow. I'll never be able to shield myself against this sound and melody. Masterpiece.
*This is a certified B12 moment*
B07 is so incongruous with the rest of BoC work because it's peppy and upbeat. I really love the track, but I'm so used to the generally melancholy natures of BoC.
A06 sounds like a demo of Seven Forty Seven, gorgeous
Old BOC stuff that has been remastered/cleaned up that I haven't heard before is fantastic whilst waiting patiently for a new album! Thanks for this! 😁❤
In your dreams, and mine too, buts been 10 years and their last album was far from my mark of being great, of course that’s just my opinion.
A05 and A13 sounds deep deep in my brain since many years ago
Another thing to note is that at 47:15 on Audiotrack B02, you can hear a faint telephone ring in the background.

I'm almost sure I recognise the A6 voice sample from somewhere, can't place it though.
Did you find any of B.O.C's trademark subliminal messages in here? If so, can you work on and post a desubliminalized version?
Thanks,
Grinderfoot
@@grinderfoot3371 wdym like reversed stuff? can tell you r35tt ain't no geogaddi lmao 💀
@@oliveoil22 no no no, obscured frequencies barely perceived that contain messages. My maain concern was ones around 10 - 12 Hertz. Thanks for asking.
@@grinderfoot3371 They probably wouldn't be preserved on a tape rip. Besides, this isn't a release, just a bunch of songs which aren't really compiled with much rhyme or reason. So that's a lot of work to put the messages in, and for no reason, as nobody who isn't a friend of boc was supposed to hear this
I've clicked through so many videos, through so many incredible, weird ambient landscapes... I feel like I'm going on a train trip, seeing a succession of crazy, never-before-seen scenes from history, important, weird musics through the window as I pass... there's so much to explore. So many places to alight and dwell in the ambiences that are on offer. This stop, in particular, is brilliant 🤠
You've posted this particular comment about another particular stop on your journey on at least one other particular video.

BOC is not like the other girls
Peerless in this musical space
I have just found this, loved BoC for years, but this is new to my ears so thank you. It has that pang you only get with BoC - you wish you had these tunes in your possession, but you probably never will, so it's bitter sweet as you listen to them in captured moments of knowing exultation. The hidden knowledge that on their game, nobody in the world is or has ever been better at this type of thing than BoC, but that the whole world will never know... They are the only band I have ever been approached about when wearing an old T-shirt of theirs I had. Happened several times, one guy I have struck up a friendship with... only BoC I suppose.
A professor of mine, who was probably in his 60s, listens to BOC and has his CDs. Its really awesome that you can bridge the gap between generations with this music
@@Ferrichrome Yep great to hear of a similar experience to mine, nice one
The perfect soundtrack to listen to when browsing r/LiminalSpace.
ZYPHER METHOD REMASYER
A14 could be in a Depeche Mode álbum like Black Celebration or Music for the Masses
Thanks. Went straight to it.
Was exactly my thought!
But didn't think of exact DM album but rather than earlier stuff (since Alan Wilder).
Wow thank you for the effort - it’s a bit like a new record from the guys so really happy about it
fun facts about the cd skips:
- as far as it goes, A07 has a hell lot of them, someone must have burned the noise reduced rip to a badly scratched CDr as this is just unbearable - this is exactly why it looks so ugly on the spectogram (i was the first person to notice the cd skipping and it was a complete accident). the track also has repeated chunks of audio. also none of that is present on the "unreleased materials" re-encode, which serves as proof what i said is correct (or at least makes sense and is realistic)
- some tracks have a small amount of random clicks, audible but not severe (A01, A06, A08, A10, etc), they also must've been put on the already NRed rip
- now here's the actually interesting part: while i did fix the A09 CD skips (which i didn't even realize were a thing until the NR was restored properly, cant count all the NR algorithms i and sdoww tried doing reverse NR with before oliveoil came up with this one) i noticed the CD skips are not only fainter and quieter, but they cut off at around 15 kilohertz. and, unlike the previous tracks, these CD skips are the only ones that actually DO appear on the "unreleased materials" encode of A09. that basically means that A09 is either sourced from CD or the entire tape was recorded from a single CDr (but first off, i think the only kind of people to do that is people who were too poor to afford an aux cord, second, practically impossible for A09 to be the only track with tape compressed CD skips that way, so i feel like this second theory is far worse and less likely).
just some things not really ever analyzed throughtly on this tape
Just Skip it skippy !
Bravissimo! Very well done, we need new BOC - 2014 was EIGHT FREAKIN YEARS AGO!!!
Make that 9 years since TH came out in 2013 however we might have something new with that VHS tape which was found in a thrift store and which seem to contain genuine unreleased BOC Tracks which could also potentialy lead to a new album.
But that requires an expedition to the site of SCP 3008 to find them and making it back as well.
It sounds so good! An engaging and pleasant listening experience
B09 is the good ending.
Never realized the same vocal sample in A12 is used in Aquarius version 3
these is some bangers mate ,nice job innit
Thanks for the upload …love the old stuff:-)
omg this is amazing, thanks so much for posting
can't wait to listen to this in my headphones! thank you
Much love to you for this
B04 sounds incredible on this release, the original now sounds underwater. Thanks you so much for your remaster!
Speechless, totally speechless… It will take time for words to come.
Amazing job, thank you for this!
Thanks so much, doin the lord's work here.
Glorious perfection. Thank you so much.
Gorgeous, man. Thank you.

Thanks dude!
deepest healing lucid dreaming made me this way. this is insane. i've tried so many else. this one is workin' as hell. no question.
Absolutely nothing prepares you for B08 - 0:58:58 That's a wonderful track. I also really like the track prior-- makes me think of supermarket shopping.
Sounds to me like a sample of a Javanese gamelan ensemble
@@StereotypicBehaviour Wow I've never heard of this before and I really love it. Thanks a lot!!! 🐸
Thank you!
a06 sounds so crisp good job olive
edit: and niski too sorry
Thank you.
WAY FUCKING BETTER HOLY SHIT
the other (denoised) upload sounds like the lowest possbile quality washed out MP3... and i was convinced the original tape just sounded like that xd
ekie
amazing!
In awe.
very good
Here Come the gods 🙏
very cool and good. A08 ❤️
Random 35 by the boards of contrived
NICE :D
A14 pure love
nice@!!
track B8 58:58 sounds like music you’d hear in a horror game or movie ngl
It sounds like it could be a sample from Ecophony Rinne. but probably just a gamelan recording cuz I can't imagine that joint finding its way to scotland in the 90s
A08 all day
Oh. Wow...
A13
A03 sounds a lot like a Royksopp's song, "Sombre detune". Or actually vice-versa.
Just about the last thing left on this planet that is worth caring about, apart from nature itself, is another BOC release. Right?
очень клёво!

how did you do it ? Did you manipulated the Noise reducted rip , or is it based on an roginal rip ? how can it sounds better if you worked on an already deteriorated version? It definetly sounds betters in the end, so great job.
Here's what i said in response to someone asking the same thing on the boc subreddit: "For the method itself I simply recreated the noise profile with some white noise with a slight boost in the very low ends. I "learned" said noise to IZotope RX 9's robust but quite primitive noise reduction module to filter out the noise and music separately in different tracks. I boosted the noise back to it's original dB level (about 10dB) based on the fragmented 192kbps leak that doesn't have any processing done to it. The music was kept at its original level."
Here's a little gif i made to show the process in the software: i.gyazo.com/d40c5003acec535ef3996bf136bb53a4.mp4
@@oliveoil22 Very clever ! You used an original leak to understand what was missing , man, that is such a great idea. This is amazing (I finaly understood what you did :)
Great job, well done!
Can you undo the noise reduction of AFOT from the .flac rip?
that one's tougher since the reduced details are much more cleaned out and there's a completely different, more "advanced" noise reduction algorithm at play that's a bit harder to replicate with the modern software I have. I've been doing a little digging on what the original ripper could've used to noise reduce the audio (this would've been late 90s to early 2000s) but I haven't come near anything close yet.
inspiré par Syd Barret ?
Has this been released ??
So you've removed the noise reduction? 🤔
Nah.. thanks man!

17:00 not that there’s any connection at all, but the chicken fingers thing makes me think of that one episode Trailer Park Boys where Ricky paid $8 for the good kind of chicken fingers and Julian ruined it.
Okay now let’s go with the chips and smokes. 🫰 🫰
