    Born and raised in Tucson Az, love that Az sticker. Nice bike I have a Dr650. Love the on and off road rides. Used to be a Harley guy but I think I found a new love in enduros. Still love Harley though. Lol.

      I spend a lot of time on my DR650 and would hate to have to choose just one 650. I'm glad you found duel sporting, I wish for myself I had started earlier in life exploring trails. I rode MX and small areas of the desert, but nothing like I am doing now or trips planned for the future. I know some Harley guys and see the affection of the thumping V Twin. Thank you for watching.

    I've seen and heard of bunch of guys converting to the USD forks. Every CRF450X I've ridden was harsh and deflecting. Guys are always having them revalved. The old school stock forks are plush as can be and magically hold up in the stroke. I've ridden mine through 30 miles of 3 foot sand whoops and miles of unrelenting rocks. Stock suspension seems to handle all of it.

    • @verbalwidget7267
      @verbalwidget7267  Před 2 lety +1

      You are right the stock suspension is very good, and if this was not a free swap I would still have stock forks and be happy with them. But I will say the bike is a different beast with the USD forks and clamps, and with all the adjustments you can get rid of the harshness. I just did a similar (free) conversion on my DR650 and really happy with the results on that bike too. Thank you for the comment.

    Next mod and the best are a High rev CDI and a pumper carb. I just installed a Ricky Stator high rev CDI and a TM40 pumper carburetor kit from Niche Cycle on my bike with a full T4 Pro Circuit and OMG!!! NO more cutting out when you snap the throttle and rev's to the moon. It now feels like a real dirt bike:)

    • @verbalwidget7267
      @verbalwidget7267  Před 4 lety +2

      Thanks for the information. I never heard of the High Rev CDI, that would be cool! I just bought a factory Honda CDI because I was at wits end trying to fix the sputtering, and wanted to make sure the CDI was not the problem (it wasn't), but I carry the old one as a spare now.
      The other bike I bought that I am swapping parts off of, has a new TM40 carby from ProCycle, but the guy could not get it to run right with it?(Why it sold cheap) I am going to put it in a box and maybe put it on later, but the bike runs perfect now so I'm just going to ride it and finish swapping stuff around so I can get my money back out of the other bike when it's back to stock.
      Any idea what your jetting is? The guy gave me a bag of jets with the bike.

      @@verbalwidget7267 watch torture test magazines video on aftermarket CDIs before buying one. I've read the pumper carbs are great for a little extra power and fix sputtering in low RPM, but also tend to use more fuel. Some people just swap carbs from another machine. I run the stock one because the bike could have 10 hp for all I care. Just gotta run well EVERY TIME I push that little red square.

      @@Megakoolguy357 I'm not making any changes any time soon, since I just got it running the best its run since I have owned it. I'm always out by myself, it has to start first time every time. Always good to know about other things. I will check out TT and learn more on the CDI, and I have the pumper in the box from the other bike. But for now I am good. I just bought a new factory CDI and carry my old one for a spare. I was out on the DR650 yesterday causing trouble, and it was nice to get 44 to 46 mpg and ran 65/70 for 170 miles up and 170 miles home to get to the area that I wanted to explore. Honda XR650 gets 10 mpg less per gallon same rider, same 650cc?? And the DR650 is still much faster? Go figure?

      @@verbalwidget7267 The DR has 2 plugs, right? That may have something to do with it. I have even heard of XR owners using the carb from the DR. I got 41 on my bike yesterday and rode 122 miles with about half of that on the road and absolutely smashed it offroad. I did coast maybe five miles downhill, but I doubt it affected mileage much

    • @Megakoolguy357
      @Megakoolguy357 Před 4 lety +1

      If you haven't checked you cam chain and tensioner in a while, that may be a good idea. Mine is getting loose and makes a pretty awful sound when I start the bike. Has a hard time idling when cold and doesn't seem like its getting mileage or power it used to. I didnt replace it during the rebuild, so its likely the problem.

    Nice bike.... I'm in the process of USD conversion on my xr650l... This is the second time I have done this conversion on a xr650l. First time I used crf450x forks and Ron's clamps. Worked great... He makes some cool stuff. This time I'm doing the emig steering stem, mostly because of cost ($185) and I already have the stock cr125 clamps that came with the forks. And I like the idea of having the rubber bushing mounted handle bars that stock cr mx clamps offer.
    How do you like the Sutton cycle works oil cooler?
    Also... Just a side note...I have the Dyno jet, jet kit on the CV carb...runs pretty good and I get about 40mpg

    • @verbalwidget7267
      @verbalwidget7267  Před 4 lety

      Thanks for the tip on the dyno jet kit, I did try a DJ kit with the stock exhaust and the bike never ran right maybe with the FMF now it would be better? This is the best the bike has ever ran so I'm afraid to touch it? I'm very happy with the conversion of the 450 USD forks, I had no Idea the change would be so dramatic. The Sutton cooler is just ok? Later I may try to make something else work? It is a nice kit but I am only seeing about a 10 degree drop in oil temp. It will still run up to 260 degrees on a 95 degree day. I think the cooler is too small. I will know more when summer returns. Let me know how you like the Emig clamps and CR forks.

My DR650 is mid 40 mpg all day long and is a bullet compared to the XR? I have removed the snorkel, drilled out the airbox, rejetted to a 52/158 and a shim under the needle. FMF power bomb header and the Lexx exhaust. Maybe pick up a spare ignition module at Rocky Mountain ATV and see if that helps if your jetting is not the issue. I hope this helps.

      I have a video posted called Stole It! If you want to see.
      RSW racing.com sells them. 400 dollars, is the way to go and retain speedometer mount, the correct steering stops, ignition mount and steering lock. It's a slick set up.
      I will be posting an install video, were I show and weigh all the parts. Thank you for watching.

      @verbalwidget7267  Před 4 lety

      You could do the swap for a $1000. If you shop smart on ebay. Clamps are $400. Forks front wheel axle should eat up the rest.
      Your steering stem needs to be pressed in.
      Other than that 2 hours to take apart and install. Everything bolts up like stock.

      I agree, It was not until I did the FMF full exhaust, airbox and jetting, until the bike came to life!! I prefer the 14tooth front sprocket, but my rides are farther away that required me to put the 15 tooth sprocket back on to cruise better on the highway.

      @@verbalwidget7267 14t front sprocket is 2.81 gear ratio. 42tooth rear sprocket is 2.80 and stock 15/45 is 3.00 ratio. So 14t & 42t rear gets you almost 10mph faster top speed, and doesn't seem like its revving so high when going 70. Drops the RPM like from 5kish to 3500ish
