It is possible that the first nugget was given to students at the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) which was started in India. A lot of my classmates in school have gotten budget Lenovo tablets modified to run educational software from a company called Byju's.
That might also be related to why they're in repurposed camera chassis. Probably a very cheap and accessible way to make a multimedia player: all the features, connectors and processing necessary are already there, so if they bought up a bunch of surplus cameras they would have been able to open them up, remove the camera lens and sensors, then replace the firmware. Pretty ingenious method to do a short run of media players cheaply with halfway decent quality.

oh man, i had that exact model of zen creative, but in blue, back in the day. sad this one had died, it's a pretty solid piece of hardware. no unnecessary frills, just a nice lcd to show you what you're playing, a good enough sound driver for the mp3 quality of the day, and enough storage space to put an album on. i remember loading it up to prepare for the day and just jamming out. good memories.
My first music player was a white Creative MuVo V100 and it looked just like that Zen, except it was sort of a two-part thing where you pulled the part with the screen out of the rest of the player and it had a USB end on it that you'd plug right into the PC. No folder structure at all as far as I remember, it just played every song that was on it either in order or on shuffle lol. Fun to see something similar pop up here, I love the nugget dips.
Preferable to Apples solution, which becomes even more of a pain in the a** to use as they get 'old', not that Apple wants any of their older devices to be used.
