    Hi Gil.
This one got by me. Now that is where that screw driver went. lol
I would have gone in there with a lot of detergent and as suggested already a long handled brush and gloves.
I do not like Dirty so I would have happily cleaned that out for you. You are right a lot of wires running around, but with your grandkids to look after and work timme is short.
    Thanks for posting.
    David. Down Under.

David Leatherbarrow it was nasty. Part of our current refit has been cleaning the entire bilge from stem to stern and repainting it as well.

a little purple magic and a toilet brush will make is look and smell clean. I only do that on the hard though so I can capture the pumped out water and dispose of properly.

Great tip. The good news is I could pump it out into a bucket if needed. I never thought of a toilet brush, that would be much better than the small hand brush I have used on my previous boat.

I've had good success with Dawn detergent, a shop vac and an electric pressure washer. Also try easy off oven cleaner

+skullhart I am always nervous about using the pressure washer down below due to overspray, do you have any issues with that?

@@Svdreamchaser If you pressure wash with excessive puddles of dark grease then it can make a mess. Best to get to where there is only staining. Alternate 20 seconds of pressure wash with shop vac to remove puddles. Hit with oven cleaner after that and repeat.

I think you need to do a lot of work in the bilge, Is that a motor mount on the left that's all rusted? it's not even tightened down. your motor will be lifting up and down which will wear out your stuffing box causing a bigger leak. TLC

It is actually an old motor mount. The engine was remounted and had one of those anti-vibration mounted shaft stabilizer and the the motor is on softer motor mounts to reduce vibration. It was an upgrade the previous owner put in but didn't get rid of the old motor mounts. But your right, there is a lot of wire work to be done as well down there.

Now that you point that out, I need to double check that. You may be completely right. That's not good

Sorry didn’t mean to offend. Didn’t know you were so sensitive. I was actually just thinking about your health. But obviously I hurt your feeling being that you attacked me relentlessly. Being a man has nothing to do with a guy wearing gloves. You keep being you.

For clarity I wasn’t offended at all. I actually think you brought up a good point.

If you want to have clean bilges almost all of the time with little maintenance and looking for a little project, I highly recommend this DIY dry bilge system which keeps bilges bone dry all of the time under$100 lifeempirically.com/2018/03/12/build-your-own-diy-arid-bilge-or-dry-bilge-system/
