  • Is a 15 Ft batwing bush hog too big for my tractor? Whether you call it a slasher, topper, bush hog, rotary cutter or mower….We put our Kioti RX 7320 tractor to the test with the Titan Implement 3515 Heavy Duty 15 foot flexwing rotary mower. #1 when you are no longer testing and actually working the tractor in warmer weather and thicker grass carry a leaf blower with you. My RX7320 pulling a 12’ batwing in the summer is a workout. When engine temps start to rise, stop the tractor and blow out the radiator. You will also be better off ditching the loader when mowing. I added ballast to the front tires, makes a huge difference on that tractor. #2 you aren’t saving yourself anytime mowing in L2. That baby will eat grass way faster. I mow at 6mph.

    It will pull it, and turn the shaft, but IMHO it will will be very hard on your tractor in warm weather! It will also be hard to use on any wet ground too. Watch for engine temps, and keep your radiator screens clean! If I would were you, I would go with the smaller version! Wet grass is gonna be a lot harder to cut too.

      @JoeTheFarmer  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks for watching buddy, I would have thought the same. And I don’t disagree. But we had 4 inches of snow thaw a few days before this cut and I finished up after a full day of rain. Thick green grass will be another challenge for sure, but the ground was so wet I was already worried about rutting ip the turf. I am surprised man. If I was cutting commercially or for hire; it would be a smaller mower or bigger tractor for sure.

    • @JoeTheFarmer
      @JoeTheFarmer  Před 2 lety

      Hey Ben! That’s a great question. As this tractor is breaking in, the fuel consumption is getting way better. I was shocked at how little additional fuel I used compared to the 6’ cutter. I actually mentioned in the video I brought another fuel can but didn’t really need it other than to top it off when done. It needs more than idle when starting the pto and the shaking is better if I bring it up to running rpms faster. It’s just a big machine and will take time to learn it’s quirks. Thanks for watching buddy!

    Can't beat the look of a freshly cut field. The old rule is cutter width size to be equal or less than distance of outer rear tire to outer rear tire but these salesmen know their product well. Nice job and the rotary cutter's an obvious winner and keeper.

      That old rule must’ve been meant for those old Farmalls and Fords, lol. It’ll never apply to any tractor nowadays,…especially with live pto. I mow with a 10ft cut Titan 3pt lift brushhog which really does everything I need to do. But I'm eyeballing ole Kapper's 12ft batwing mower. Hey Otis, you are 100% correct. I briefly mentioned in the video (but should have clarified) that I was starting VERY slow to be sure that the tractor had no issue and that I gained a comfort for the setup. Initially I was crawling man, but by the time I finished I was in Low 4, Med 1 which is great speed for any good cut. The video also doesn't show how "hilly" that field is. Another reason why it's not great hay ground. Too many slopes, trees, drop offs etc. It's perfect for what we use it for though. I will be doing more videos with this cutter...I was VERY impressed with how well it actually worked. Thick and hearty summer vegetation when it's hot will be another story, but we'll see. That’s a fools errand you are running! Neither your or Larry don’t know anything when it comes to cutters matched to horse power. I shit canned my 15’ 2615 legend batwing bush hog years ago. I pulled it with. 125 hp T6050 NH AWD tractor. I instead switched to a 10’ 3pt hitch mount cutter and cut at 6-7 mph. I can cut 40 acres in 5 hours or so. Major fuel savings and savings in my personal time!! It’s just not safe pairing that small of a tractor with a cutter that large!

      1- You are entitled to your opinion. I respect that. But slow your roll bud. I have said that I wouldn’t do it on a daily basis but pulling it on my property is not a big deal and it pulls it great for my needs.
      2- You must be mowing flat ground. A 3pt hitch mounted 10’ mower would cut terribly on sloped and hilly ground. Would also scalp the sides. And I would need to widen about 7 gates.
      3- I wouldn’t take a tractor 6-7 mph on that piece of ground. Too hilly and a few bumps and dips that you can’t see on camera. That’s extremely dangerous.
      4- The owner of the dealership and their team are good people with a ton of knowledge. I trust them…especially when advising people on equipment that they know.
      5- I like when people leave comments telling me that after watching a video, they know more about my land, equipment and it’s abilities than I do. It’s actually pretty entertaining.
      I’m glad that you are happy with your equipment setup, I am happy with mine.

      I cut my teeth in 300 acres of apple orchards cutting in the 70’s on our mountain farm in Virginia with grades steeper that 30 degrees. You farm is far from that type grade from what I can see on the video. My only angle in my original comment is SAFETY PERIOD! Reread my comment. Safety, safety safety. Trust me brother in the last 51 years of real farming I’ve done and continue to do…. I’ve made the mistakes and lived too tell about it. The 10’ 3pt cutter I use weights 1400 lbs and it’s a Titan brand too. It makes your tractor feel like it’s on rails and actually does a better job that my 15’ cutter did. I learned to mow contours years ago and not just make rounds ignoring contours so I do not ever ground my cutter or scalp with it. Enjoy your summertime sleigh ride when you take it……….. too much weight + not enough HP/tractor weight = accident
