- Pretty well-known ways of supporting your favorite game if the new releases aren't to your liking. I know many folks are considering dropping the hobby entirely because of the 30th anniversary product. I just want to offer some reassurance for those who need it.

Don't forget that just brewing decks is totally free! I regularly boot up archidekt and see what new cards are being released, see if anything inspires me to build a new deck or if there's any cool new additions to old decks I've made.
This. Brewing decks is my favorite part of playing the game!
Free. For now
@@ianomalley6100 making decks will always be free, but even if places like moxfield and archidekt start charging a fee to use their services making decks will still be free, it would just be a lot more tedious. And I have no idea how or why Gatherer would ever be not free, but thankfully Scryfall still exists. Making decks will always be 'free', it's just a case of how difficult or easy it will be.
Agreed. Building decks is my favourite part.
I get out my binders and physically build. So much fun.
I started building a cube out of my bulk. It's slow going, and I'm no expert, but it's been interesting to build and learn. Between that and building new decks to teach my SO how to play, I've been enjoying this more relaxed phase of my MtG hobby life cycle.
Already built a cube around the dnd set. but I don’t have any friends who play magic. Excellent video on Tolarian academy for help
welcome to the best format!
I dont hate the current products. They actually have quite a bit of thoughtfulness and interesting interactions. What I hate is how rapid-fire sets release.
Proxy through mpcfill
Torrent the old duels of the planeswalkers games
Play pauper or cube at your lgs, you can support them by buying other things from them like manga or chips/soda or w/e
Yes! I literally rotated out of Standard into EDH many moons ago, mostly because I didn't wanna spend 400$ every three months
Unfortunately, you'll spend so much time perfecting your EDH deck that youll opt to build another rather than take it apart. The deck will grow in price over the years and you'll tire of playing the deck. Soon enough you're building a new deck at the price point of your inflated old one, and the powercreep begins
I have been building Commander decks with weird restrictions to keep the MTG fresh. I just built a Cabal Patriarch deck but only used cards from Scourge and before.
Now I’m working on an Elas il-Kor deck but with Lurrus as the companion. Working with these restrictions has made me excited to build decks again.
Elas with Lurrus can be a cedh deck lol
@@damo9961 it is, just need some fast mana and its game over
Also buy snacks and drinks at the your LGS. My old store we all pitched in for a few cases of cheap soda one time and sold them for less than a vending machine price. All money went back into snacks.
After 2 months we had a full snack counter and bought a cheap fridge for the drinks.
Over the next year the snack counter provided the profits to keep awesome events running when they wouldn't otherwise have been profitable.
This allowed us to keep more stuff happening more often, and kept the place alive.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving dude.
Thanks! You too
Void, Thanks for another great MTG video. Your doing a great job. Been following you for years before I even subscribed in Jan 2020.
Never sell your collection unless you have to. Just pack it up. Someday you will want to play MTG again and you will be glad you keep your collection.
I was getting worn out with WOTC and all the products they've been pushing out, and getting a little tired with commander as well. Looking at other formats has really kept me going with the game. Playing some draft is fun and starting Oathbreaker wich is a cool format too.
Great video that I think was needed. I've played magic from nearly the beginning. I sold out my collections at least four times and regretted it every time. As far as other formats me and my playgroup have taken to playing pauper Commander, as well as 60 card pauper. As far as Hasbro and wizards of the Coast I simply hate and detest them now. If they folded tomorrow I wouldn't care. There's plenty of cards for my playgroup and I to continue playing.
We did the same here, but we moved from 100 cards pauper commander deck to 60 cards commander decks, so 59 singleton +commander, decks are more varied and less slow this way, we enjoy the format way more, you can try it out!
Pauper is a great example of eternal formats as well and something to emphasize as well is to ignore new products it might be hard but honestly if you're someone like me who doesn't get to play magic except on fridays after work if something sounds cool maybe look at it but it's not like we have to look at every product unless you're a competitive player in like modern legacy or vintage etc. I enjoy magic for the game it is and I appreciate the community that helped keep the game alive I hope we can continue to do this by enjoying the game in our own way.
3 words "PRINTER GO BRRRRRR"
Oh hey, I didn't know you were from Frederick lol. I play down in Gaithersburg at Play More Games. The store is smaller compared to Dream Wizards, but the atmosphere is a lot better. Rick is an amazing owner who cares about the community.
Build a cube with your existing collection!
You can use some old draft decks, or the leftovers of a precon that got cannibalized by another deck, and you’ll be seeding interesting interactions into your cube just with those! If the power level is around “retail limited / precon”, the cardpool of playable cards increases! You can have fun with any number of players, without the need of purchasing new products!
Loved your Rose Tico videos.
So happy that I did not sell my cards back when mirrodin came out. 2019 I came back and started playing again.
i love the title
Me and my friend started a new format called: Jumpstart-Commander. As reaction to the disappointing product called Jumpstart Dominaria (and Brothers War)
Deck construction looks like this: Take a commander and add 11 cards that fits to your commander and add 8 lands to it. You gonna build minimum 10 to 15 Decks like that.
The rule is simple: Take two decks, put two commanders (one from each pack) in the command zone and shuffle the rest together.
We are currently playing with 20 lifepoints.
Positive about this: You are the game designer. You decide how strong the decks are and how they are played. The games are quick and fun. You see new combos you never see in commander. And you can have a taste of a new or older commander you else maybe not had the energie put 99 cards together.
In my LGS i had alot of positive feedback. Maybe this is a solution to the ridiciolus amount of new product that comes out? i dont know, but i guarantee playfun.
thank you for this vid. totally agreed.
LOL! haven't watched the video yet, but definitely love the title
Luckily Louisville has many game shops and I’ve only stuck to singles, I used to get all the precons when it was 4-5 a year but now very selective since they drop 20+ a year.
There is allready an eternal format that exist , one that WotC CANNOT mess with, its called Pre-Modern. :)
Way ahead of you on most of those, no the collection part tho, my wurm collection its in general worthless and i just do it because i like the creature type.
Duel commander is a good way for tourneys. Could tune up your deck for duel edh rules.
The best thing about playing commander is that we can still just play our decks or the cards that we have. I have only been into the formAt for a few years, and I've bought a lot of precon so I can have a lot of staples in all the colors. I get hyped up for new releases, but I'm getting fatigued and think I'm just going to stop buying too much new stuff. I keep having this question, which is that if Magic stopped producing new cards tomorrow, would you still play. Couldn't we play Commander forever without really running out of novelty?
That is a Good question. Tbh my answer for that would be yes. I could play magic for the next 10 years easily with out any New Set coming out ever again.
I also live in the Frederick area, I personally frequent Tournament City Games but had never gone to Black Sun. Have you been to TCG, lol, and found Black Sun to be a lot better?
NEVER GIVE IN, NEVER SURRENDER!
I'll be honest, I love card games and I put passion in each of them, but I started playing MTG this year and I'm not into competitive play, so I'm not a real "Magic player"... but as long as I get new artificers and pilots for my vehicles, I'm fine with everything lol
Not at all bro, competitive magic is utter garbage, casual magic is where the real magic is still magical.
new format: EDH with any plainswalker as ur commander. its pretty much the same as regular edh just with more choices for ur commander :)
I haven't bought MAGIC since the start of COVID. I just print proxies of EVERYTHING. Even Evolving Wilds.
All the cards in thirty years available to everyone via tabletop simulator for the low price of 20 dollars on steam
Wait thats my local game store
I quit playing standard after the khans block I refuse to ever play it again
I only buy proxies and play outside the WPN at this point. They've burned me one too many times.
I rarely ever buy sealed product anymore and just stick to buying singles if I'm working on something new. In reality, I buy more vintage Pokemon singles from stores.
😎👍
Who wants to play a format with only uncommons? Like pauper but weirder
You forgot the point: print and use proxies
Alternative formats to try. Curtisy of Clonehead
Tratior
Emperor
Big deck
Horde
Pauper
Thsnk me later
it would have been a good thing if the rules committee just send a message with banning the walking dead secret lair in commander when they were released. You could still rule 0 them in, but maybe wotc would have stopped at least the whole universe beyond shit. Also this wouldve made them into a voice of reasons, that might be able to put a stop to the ways hasbro and wotc is treating the community right now…
They didn't because they have wotc employees in the rules committee. The rules committee is corrupt and compromised
I would like to sell off most of my collection and just keep like 10-20 commander decks I really like. But where is a good place to do it? I don’t want to take a 50% hit…
The best way: proxys
With how the current sets have been, and the massive shift towards commander making me less interested in playing it, I have started to build some pauper decks and it is great fun. I get to avoid the newer cards and it's cheap as chips to buy the singles.
Im about ready to ban the power 9 from edh
How do you feel about playing Arena without paying a single cent? Lifelong ygo player thats been hanging around MtG tables the past year since my schedule kinda lines up to just watch some games, and ive been interested in playing modern/commander/pioneer, but its kinda financially suicidial for me to play both of these games on paper at my LGS. So i thought Arena would be the best option, but I don't want to financially support WoTC and Hasbro just seemingly milking this game for all its worth and spitting it out.
I just play casual commander with my buds and print out all my decks. I refuse to buy any more Magic product. Been doing that for two years now, in fact.
Best thing my commie ass can do rn.
Proxy everything. Printer go brrrrrrr.
Seize the means of production.
We've all spent more than enough on this game we love that doesn't love us back.
Before even watching the video, talk to your playgroup about playing with decks where each card is under a specific budget limit. My playgroup has EDH decks where every card can be gotten for 50 cents or less.
I haven’t bought all this new **** hasbro is putting out. I like the game. The game, not the parent company. I’ll just keep going.
I don't hate the new products. I hate the a-hole executives trying to squeeze us so they can buy a third summer home. How good or bad the products are has ZERO to do with my HATRED of WotC and Hasbro.
I think i'll play pokemon instead
I only buy singles. Why buy cards you don’t want? Booster packs are dumb.
I hope this game crashes and burns. I feel nothing but disgust for wotc and Hasbro. But too many lapdogs on the magicTCG subreddit will simp for them. I have pretty much given up buying magic stuff after this year and resorted to proxies and buying singles.
I buy what I want and don't buy what I don't want. Use mpc as well. So easy.
