I wish fd would actually make jobs/missions worth doing credit wise. like a high danger to high pay or longer completion time to even higher pay but no, some missions are just worthless because they dont pay shit and you might as well do one thing that's easiest that pays a lot. They really need to revise this and make it more fun.

      One more thing, type 10 does not actually have the worst jump range, for some reason it is capable of outranging 2 of the big 3(corvette and cutter, well by 2-7 lys but still) and even then, for a anaconda to get its famed jump range, you have to leave everything behind, you can pile on all the things on a type 10 and it will lose like, 5 light years?

    Keelback is unironically good for one very specific thing - mining. Type 6 is a cheap hauler, but a terrible miner with only 2 small hardpoints. Keelback looses some cargo space but has the room needed to fit the two medium slots, two small slots requiering mining tools you need to cover all your bases, and enough internals to fit a refinery, limpets, storage and even a small shield. I literally got my new toon (yes I got a new toon, don't ask why) into a Viper 3 and BH'ed until I had enough money to buy that hauling ship barely bigger than the "Hauler" glorified taxi ship. One trip in that was enough for a keelback with basic loadout, and one trip in that was enough to b-grade the needed stuff in the keelback. Another trip in the KB and suddenly I could afford that medium ship I wanted. All this took me 2 days to achieve thanks to IRL duties hampering me, but knowing what I was doing still helped me get to that point.
    Just because it says "combat hauler" on the tin don't mean it's not useful as a mining vessel, and frankly I see no need to really replace it anytime soon, it does it's one job just fine.

      I have a little fleet of them as I find them fun to fly, useful and cheap enough to have every build I like assembled permently. A nice little go anywhere multipurpose, also has to be said for their price toting a SLF and the ability to be such a tank make them actually quite good in combat roles. You can have a blast with them, and the jump range is satisfactory even when armour tanked up.
      They certainly will not ever be the best any anything, but don't think they can't be good for many things. Like the Adder its a deceptively competent ship for the money. Though with how easy credits are to get now I don't suppose many of the newer players are spending any time at all in anything that cheap.. just jump straight on up to the mediums.

    On one hand.. its a thing where game designers knowingly build 'bad things' into their games, to both offer variety, and to offer traps to newbies (ie: so you _can_ make bad decisions), and to also highlight better things; every game does it, from online like Hearthstone, to boardgames, to card games like MtG etc; theres lower tier and higher tier, and just crap, for craps sake. Just liek trhe real world.. there are crap cars no one shoudl buy, but some people do just to be quirky, or due to economics or whatever..
    So, yeah, I'm not sure if its a valid defense or design methodology, but its done in every genre :)

    • @vib80
      @vib80 Před 4 lety +4

      There are good "bad things" and bad "bad things". The Type 10 is a good "bad thing", but the Asp Scout is not and needs some improvment to even get to that level. One of the best good "bad thing"s in the game is the Type 7... it has a smaller footprint than a Python and would fit on medium pad (and it's mass isn't an issue either). But it's taller than any other medium ship, and so it can't fit into a medium bay. So it needs to use large pads. I'd have a lot more use of a Type 7 if it could use medium pads and thus outposts. But it can't, but I kind of like thinking that it can't because some Lakon engineer overlooked the height restrictions in bays.

    I agree but even the old Elite games had a pile of useless, unneeded ships... so they follow a tradition ;) Outside that i think the most useful thing is that they provide variety when you see AI controlled vehicles around, if you see only the best ships for players it's not a better result. I remember there was the inplanetary shuttle that didn't even jump drive, you could use it, it was useless because you were limited by inter-system missions but it added some realism and if hadn't any money you could at least start from that :P

    I actually use a Keelback... As a support ship for bounty hunters.
    Engineered beam lasers that repair shields and a fighter bay. I can turn most friendlies into shield tanks, and since I'm not actually attacking anything, I never get shot at. I can float around smooth as you like topping up my mate's shields and picking away at enemies whenever I feel like it, or I can jump in a fighter and tell my crew to just follow while I do circles around FDLs. And because the Keelback can be ordered to hold fire, it will never get attacked (at least when I was playing the game a year ago).
    I believe the next ship up with a fighter bay at the time was the FGS, which you also need Federal rank for, something that doesn't come easy when the devs keep patching out exploits that make such things an achievable goal, so for someone on a budget, it's a fun alternative to the usual play-style.

    - It has a class 8 power distribution, which (with some engineering) can power 3 class 2 and 2 class 1 mining lasers long enough to empty an asteroid
    - The remaining 4 large hardpoints are excellent for defensive turrets
    - Turrets + Heavy armor + High mass lock = excellent for running away with your low temp diamonds
    - Can equip a 256 ton cargo bay and still have enough room for a ton of collection limpets, refinery, prospector limpet controller, and a surface scanner.

    Just look back to the events of Smeaton Orbital's economy-class passenger runs, which received a *97% payout reduction* , the pay I earned per hour with maxed reputation dropping from 22,000,000 to 450,000.
    Non-reductable, since the trip was 99% in-system supercruise and couldn't be lessened by any ship-based stats.
    So, clearly, Elite Dangerous server managers are *VERY* willing to "rebalance" our ability to grind in for fair span of time.

    I used my Keelback to destroy generators on planets (1 million+ credits per mission). Why such a weird choice? Fighter hangar. Because i hate the SRV (flippy piece of shit), i bought a Condor fighter. Very fast and small thing that can be deployed 25 km away from target, quickly burn the generator with lazers and boost back to your ship. Right after deploying i told it to stay in place, so it's enough far away to prevent AI ships from attacking it. And even if i lose the fighter, my ship will build a new one in a minute or two. (if you lose the SRV you have to rebuy it on a station).

    I'd also love to lay my hands on a Cobra 4. It looks nice and has a decent slot layout. Who cares if it's got less speed and jump range. A rate and engineer it and it'll be just fine.

    The ASP Scout is the very best ship in the game for farming grade 5's from high grade emissions. Because it's the most maneuverable ship that can carry a limpet controller, you can jump into a high grade, farm it, relog (right out to desktop and back into the game, not just to the menu) then jump out of the high grade and back in.
    The maneuverability means you can turn your ship around and get back into the high grade faster, meaning more grade 5's before the high grade runs out of time and dissipates.
    So.... You're kinda wrong about the ASP Scout. It has ONE (and only one) use, and for that use, it's the best ship in the game.

    Keelback was my first mining ship with the fighter support really helping me out while I was learning the ropes, and I made a tonne of cash using the Beluga on certain Luxury passenger runs which paid for all of the big three for me. Outside of that they are pretty bad, though, so maybe they should have gone in the 'one job' tier instead?

    The Mk4 is a damn good small ship.
    Its main drawback is speed.
    - The most weapon hardpoints of any small ship
    - 3 small turrets for starter coop play
    - The most cargo of any small ship (except the dolphin i think)
    - The most internal compartment of any small ship
    - Can fit EVERYTHING for mining or exploration
    - Not a bad armour tanker

    Proposed fixes:
    Mamba = thing i hated most while flying it was the low maneuverability. So kick the agility up a notch. i don't mind some armor being sacrificed as a balance compromise.
    type 10 = you know what it needs? More dakka. More hardpoints or bigger hardpoint classes. I'm serious. Let it be slow and lumbering, but have over-the-top firepower. So its this terrifying flying fortress. Furthermore let it have a second class 8 optional internal. this can replace one of the smaller optional internals that it doesn't need. With a second class 8 internal it can have the biggest SCB. I'd suggest making the spoiler an optional cosmetic, but then it wouldn't be funny anymore
    Beluga = Maybe boost jump range just enough, so that it could double as a fancy expensive exploration ship if you really want to explore in luxury. Alternatively or additionally, give it the ability to have size 8 cargo racks.
    keelback = honestly I think its fine for its weight class. it does have a niche. but maybe upgrade its maneuverability just a tad
    cobra 4 = I have ideas, but as long as its exclusive, there's no point rebalancing anything about it
    asp scout = this might sound funny. But I actually don't think the problem is its stats. The problem is how it looks. Compare it to the vulture and you'll see it's pretty well balanced with it. I think we judge it because it looks stupid. It doesn't look like a combat ship. it looks like a bootleg AspEx and is classified as a "combat explorer" so you compare it to exploration ships and of course it's garbage. Maybe if it looked its part, and was properly classified as a light fighter it would gain more respect. I'd stop calling it an Asp Scout and instead turn it into a new ship entirely with its own model. Preferably a smaller model with a smaller hitbox that fits in small landing pads

    Cheap, good jump range, and agile. Can mine easily without compromising modules.
    For a 3 million credit ship that can pay for itself AND UPGRADES in under a day, that's pretty damn good.
    And its a very good introductory ship for mining. Doesn't take a lot of money to kit it out for mining and figure out if you want to do it with something better.

  • @Khunvyel
    @Khunvyel Před 4 lety

    Actually. The Keelback has a very interesting use case. It's the cheapest ship that can fit a Hangar, making you experience Fighters in multicrew the earliest possible (for better or worse, it's experience). Even more experience when one thinks "okay, you go mining, and I go patrolling in my fighter and watch your back!" .
    Type 10 for me is the upgrade to the Krait II. It's a multicrew ship through and through. Hanging around capital ships, with one gunner and one fighter (or two fighters out, because thank you NPC) while you as a pilot steer (I mean SUGGEST DIRECTION) and micromanage modules is kinda fun and better than whatever the Krait II can do. Plus it's not rank locked. With the most hardpoints available, you can satisfy a gunner's needs and your own for pewpews. It does something for me that the Anaconda doesn't seem to do. I guess in my head the Anaconda is the autonomous exploration ship that does everything. And the Type-10 is just meant to sit in the thick of it.
    The Beluga is my favorite troll :) two fighters out, and 5 Railguns front. Those passengers paid for a lightshow, and they sure get one :D
    You can say what you want about the Mamba, and it is in most aspects worse than the Fer-de-Lance. It's a really, really speedy ship though and edges out on damage (at least the way I see it), making it an easy fix to catch up on some FSD charging cowards. If it gets rebalanced, it should definitely be amp up in maneuverability.

  • @amil7554
    @amil7554 Před 4 lety +2

    I personally used the Beluga in my expeditions. Its SC performance is great, about 50-52ly jump range, cockpit is good, and had everything in it I want... Almost... Like the DBX is suffers from a smaller scoop than what your FSD is so refueling is slower.
    That being said, it works for me because it FEELS like a ship you would use to transport scientists or other dignitaries or VIPs to the black for exploration. Roleplaying-wise it's great, even though it does have it's cons. Is it the meta? Hell no. Can it be fun for those who want to pretend or roleplay? It can be!
    But I agree, if you're looking for a ship that can excel in SOMETHING, it's not the Beluga, other than being the one of the Big 4 that can actually turn like a medium size ship in SC

  • @handlesarecringe957
    @handlesarecringe957 Před 4 lety

    The Keelback, Type 10, and Beluga are actually quite good. Keelback can make 10 times its price in a single mining run, Type 10 can carry so many fighters it’s not even funny, and Beluga is a great cargo/passenger ship. Also, it looks sexy as fuck and also works as a fighter carrier.
