Thanks Mr. Kevin, I think what makes you one of my favorite carvers is that you can do anything with anything . You break all the carving rules, but everything you carve is perfect. My thanks for all your time and talent.
This is a fabulous foundation for any beginning whittler. You can take this character and make him as detailed as you want. It also shows that you don't need a huge stockpile of tools, fancy patterns or roughouts to create great carvings. Kevin, you really should consider doing a book, I can guarantee you one copy sold :)
Hi Kevin, I really enjoyed watching this video. All your videos give me inspiration to continue into carving. I make a lot of mistakes but I enjoy it very much & gives me great pleasure. I will try this one for sure. Thanks Kevin.

Thank you for this! I enjoy watching you whittle -- you give me renewed energy for whittling (and hope that as a beginner I can create something similar).

Nice to see a craftsman at work, have watched your videos for a while now and you make it look so easy, as a beginner I still struggle with the eyes but I am repeat watching your how to carve eyes video and practising and I think I am improving. Thank you for sharing your skills.
Hello Kevin, I know you keep your knife really sharp but are you still using a kind of soft wood? From the video it looks like some old floor joist, do you treat the wood like some of the other carvers with any kind of water alcohol mix? I find the way you manipulate the wood in your hands and the way you feel the grain amazing. Great video as always a pleasure to watch, thank you. Bob…
Thank you Bob. It’s pine but it’s not all good stuff. For the most part it’s pretty good but I get the occasional piece that’s a little difficult to work with. I don’t do anything with it. Just take it as it comes. Sometimes it may be a little too seasoned

Thanks a lot for sharing.
You're welcome
Absolutely fantastic! What are the initial dimensions of the pine?
Thank you. 4” x 1.5” x 1.25”
no bass wood, no hundred dollar knife, yet you turn out work like this. 😊 I'll keep trying just the same.
Thank you Terry. The practice really helps
Where do you get your pine from?
Great video❤
Thank you. It comes from Nova Scotia here on the east coast of Canada

Im currently attempting this, with a fresh piece of birch i found today, my 2 precision blades and a Stanley knife.
Birch is good. When you say a Stanley knife you mean an utility knife?
@@KevinCoates98 yes. I find it very useful for taking off large amounts of wood. Razor sharp and very thin blades.
Is that pine your using?
White pine
Kevin .. I'm sure u get this all the time but I can't find the answer ..
What knife is that ur using at the first? Thanks
That knife sir is a fish knife. I used it years ago to fillet fish. I chopped some of the length and use it for carving now
Hi Kevin, my I ask, the knife you use it looks like and old kitchen kife. Did you make it and if so would you tell us how you did it?
Hey Jonathan, it was a fish knife with a much longer blade. There’s a video on here showing what I did. Back about 3 yrs ago
Wow, impressive
Gimme wood, knife and plaster/band-aid please!
Thank you. Careful with the knife
Como se conoce por nombre esta madera???
White pine
Muito top
👍🏻👍🏻
Great skills but If I make this one I might need to change the shape of the hat. Little too suggestive for me. 🤣
Thank you
What kind of carving knife is that
The big one is a repurposed fish
Fish knife
