  • Visiting family or friends? Do they have a threshold steeper than you are used to? Here is how you get in and out!
    Tips:
    1) Some thresholds are too steep for people to independently get on in which case help will be required.
    2) Sometimes grabbing the back bar and one side of the door will make going up easier.
    3) Use caution when pulling yourself up the door you may pull yourself our of the chair.
    4) When going down be sure to have a tight grip on the frame the handle will guide you down while the frame will assist with balance

So helpful! I am still pretty new to wheelchair and couldn’t figure out how to do a 1” + door threshold. This helps! Thanks!!! Great video! Well done!

I do it a slightly different way in coming out. I have a threshold entering my apartment block (I'm Scottish so we call it a flat & close respectively). When I go in It is the same, I have grab rails on either side of the entrance so its easy to pull up but when I exit I never do it backwards. Rather what I do it I jump off of the step. Pull a wheelie and fall off the edge. Landing on rear wheels and then landing the front castors. It wakes you up with a jolt but it's quite fun to do and *fingers crossed* I've never gone wheelchair over head! ;)

hats actually very helpful, i am lucky i can walk but its still hard to get up and down the steps/thresholds as they are steep and dont have rails, also i go in backwards· to some places where the wheels at the front gets caught, and i hold onto the door frame and door or someones hands to get in and out a house im not used to or that has deep steps

From Maria: It does seem scary the first time I tried it thought I was going to fall but holding onto the frame of the door allows you to go slow and steady. holding onto the door will guide you down!
