This was the very first concert in Singapore of Vivaldi's operatic music. Hopefully there will be a fully staged Vivaldi opera in Singapore after this!
Cheng Szu Yun is with Broschi's Qual guerriero in campo armato is undescribly terrible. It is written for the Soprano voice of the Castrato Farinelli. These days only the mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux is able to sing it technically acceptable, not even Bartoli touched this aria. Yes, it is a very complicated piece to sing. In my opinion it was not her repertoire at all, much too challenging for Cheng. Disappointing. She doesn't even have the needed vocal range for this aria. That is not coloratura singing and the trills were also missing. In this production there wasn't even one positiv aspect. Truly terrible, am Sorry
