Дву-роликовый фильм под названием «Нервные и гуморальные факторы в регуляции функций организма (исследования на неразделившихся близнецах)», был выпущен Академией Медицинских Наук СССР в Москве в 1957 году, однако его создание растянулось на два десятилетия, со времен сталинского Большого Террора, до хрущевской Оттепели. Первые кадры фильма были отсняты в 1937 году, сразу после рождения неразделившихся близнецов Иры и Гали, а последние, запечатлившие празднование седьмого дня рождения второй пары близнецов, Маши и Даши, в 1957 году. Этот фильм является главным результатом исследований, проводившихся на вышеупомянутых двух парах, поскольку, за вычетом нескольких коротеньких статей, материалы этих исследований остались неопубликованными. Он представляет собой бесценную запись моментов из раннего развития Маши и Даши, отражающих разнообразные физиологические и психологические аспекты их жизни. В фильме использованы многочисленные рентгеновские снимки, ЭЭГ и иллюстрации, превращающие его в уникальный источник для изучения как истории и советской физиологии, так и советского «научного кино»
This two-reel film, Neural and Humoral Factors in the Regulation of Bodily Functions (Research on Conjoined Twins) was produced by the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. The making of it stretched across two decades, from the time of Joseph Stalin’s “Great Terror” to Nikita Khrushchev’s de-Stalinization campaign, known as the “Thaw.” Its first frames, shot in 1937, show the infant conjoined twins Ira and Galia. Its last frames, shot in 1957, document the seventh birthday celebration of a second pair of twins, Masha and Dasha. The film is the only substantial record of the research conducted on these two pairs. It also stands as a unique record of the early life of Masha and Dasha, who are shown reacting to different types of stimuli, as well as feeding, sleeping, playing, dressing themselves, and walking with crutches. X-rays, EEGs, and illustrations are used in the film, which offers a rare glimpse into the history of Soviet physiology and Soviet “scientific cinema.”

I just finished reading a book about them, titled The less you know the sounder you sleep. It says that Masha & Dasha were shown this exact experiment video when they were adults by the author while she was digging materials for the book. And now i watched what they watched on CZcams. They had a horrible life, but in the end they had each other and a handful of people who loved them. It's an amazing story to share.
all that happened to these babies was pure torture. they deserved better than to be treated as living laboratory experiment

@@Eye5x5 you say humanity but they were also human. maybe I couldn't save them but they shouldn't have been thrown away like trash after the research was done. It wasn't their fault that they were born differently and their entire lives shouldn't be ruined "for the sake of humanity and science." no one deserves that

A prolonged case of medical torture. Dasha became an alcoholic and because they shared a blood it caused Masha to become intoxicated too or at least that is what was reported on a documentary that I watched. They were interviewed and both said that they had nicer clothes that were only for photos and filming.

The first part of that film was shocking. The treatment of the babies being pricked over and over again. I wanted to grab that needle and stick it in the nurses eye. I hate to think that the diseases they contract in their early years were injected forced research but I wouldn't be surprised. Its good to see they are smiling and happy though. It seems that they grew up hospitalised, not being allowed to play with other children but maybe I'm wrong. Great to watch them tackling problems and working too. I really think conjoined twins are needlessly separated today, especially if it means one of them has to die. I thought id but it would be too upsetting to watch this because of the year and what some medical institutions have done in the past regarding research. But it was very good to see the twins with the nurse outside and playing. I wonder what they are like now. Do they lead a healthy and fruitful lifestyle?
there's a book named " the less you know, the sounder you sleep" by Juliet Butler. This book is the autobiography of these two twins--horribly painful and tragic to read.
That's USSR for you. One large-scale experiment for millions of unfortunates.

Yes, that’s the second set of twins. The first set only lived one year.

I see people getting uncomfortable about this research and calling it abuse, but...
Without pioneering research like this back in the day, many more incidents like these births would be even more poorly understood and even WORSE cases of abuse would have happened. These sorts of situations are what can often help doctors understand the development of embryos and prevent all sorts of abuse caused by a poor understanding of ailments even normally developed babies can suffer from.
I see these girls are heroes, not martyrs.
No research is worth kidnapping babies for… and telling their mother her babies died.

Those poor children looked malnourished.
That's definitely their biggest problem.
They couldn't metabolize hamburgers, that's for sure. Doctors in the video explain why.
