  • It was founded in the 14th century and has always been one of the most important ideological and spiritual centres of Russia; it is the largest monastery in Russia and is the centre of power of the Russian Orthodox Church. The architecture is unique and has baroque, classical and old Russian aspects. The communita consists of 120 monks and the theological academy, which is attached to the monastery, has 700 students. The famous icon painters Andrey Rublev and Maksim The Greek worked here and there is still a famous school for icon painters.

    At 7:00 minutes into this presentation an error is made common to those not Orthodox, it was mentioned that we give worship to the holy icons, rather we venerate and show respect to those on the icon. Only the icon of Christ may be worshipped as we only worship our lord.

    • @isaakios
      @isaakios Před 6 lety +15

      ”Worship” is an old English word that can refer to the worship due only to God (latreia, in Greek) , but may also refer to love, honor, and veneration. It is not quite right to say that we give even Christ’s icon the worship that is due only to Christ and the Holy Trinity-- icons are venerated, and the prototype-- the true Christ-- is worshipped.

    Icons are not worshipped. They are venerated. It is amazing the narrator does not know this and is spreading falsehood

    • @SpectatorAlius

      It is not that he does not know it; the word 'worship' you used is used for either προσκύνησις *or* λάτρεια. Similarly in Russian, поклониться is used for both. Even in English, 'venerate' is sometimes used for either one. Just like 'adore', though 'adoration' us used to translate λάτρεια, is used to mean admiration and appreciation for things of beauty, it is *not* exclusively used to mean λάτρεια. Only in the technical language of theology in English are the distinctions between 'worship', 'honor', 'adoration' and 'veneration' mostly strictly observed.
      By the way, since the narrator even gave a pretty good paraphrase of St. John of Damascus' famous "honor given to the image passes over to the prototype", it should be clear that just as St. John understood the distinction, so does the narrator.

    at 13:00 minutes I want to clarify what they said about spiritual icons "being forgotten". It's because the Russian Orthodox Church caved into the ridiculous attitudes of Peter the Great and Catherine the great whose sole ambitions were to make Russia become just another European country by adopting Western practises. Very many monasteries were closed during that time in those rulers' contempt for anything Orthodox that was humble and anything that was a true inheiritance from the original Christian Church.

    At the 11 minute and 10 sec of the presentation the student with the big hair who drinks tea next to the icon is today's well known Bishop Isaias Of Tamasos - church of Cyprus. We can assume that this is why upon his return to Cyprus and becoming a bishop he build the beautiful Russian church in Episopeion Nicosia that resembles the church of st Sergius LAVRA...

    Welcome to the Ancient Orthodox Faith founded by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, persecuted by the enemy of our souls Satan and his helpers. The struggle is to keep the Faith pure from incursion of the western churches.. The incursion of Jesuits invited by Czar Peter in 1600;s began the perversion of Augustinian-type teachings of "Original Sin" and "Atonement".. but St Anthony Khrapovitsky in 1930's revised the prayer. books and texts for seminary to take out these references. Our Mission relies more on the Greek Theology since there has been little of visible incursions from the west, although other secular forces have been active. Yet the Theology and praxis of the Churches remains protected by the Christ in His Spirit by Whom He promised "The Gates of Hades will not prevail [Against My Church]"... and so we cling to His words and Promise! Welcome to the Ancient and ever-living Truth of the Gospel In its fullness in Eastern Orthodox Christianity now becoming more available in Europe and Americas.

    And it is worth ordering from the priest in the church to read the akathist for your name of St. Cyprian and St. Justine and of St. Archangel Michael against magic and all enemies visible and unvisible. This is if you are baptized Orthodox. There always were sorcerers even after Jesus said it is from devil they remained in every country and on every second or third family something is put from a sorcerer. And when you intend to go to command the akathist in the church, such thoughts may appear: "Maybe tomorrow, or next week", "Maybe I'm such a freak and no one is watching me (girls or boys, if you can not anyways find a pair, or you can for some reason speak only with one girl or boy.)", "The life is this way with good times and bad times", " I am so (if you have impotence)". etc. These thoughts come from demons from sorcery spells because only the prayer of the priest can 100% protect from magic and enemies visible and invisible. Jesus Christ told the apostles(which are the first priests) "I give you the right to untie everything that is tied in heaven and on earth.". Faith and creed is opinion, is how somebody thinks with his head. Repent is changing and not auto-humiliation as many think. May be enherited soul ilnessses like despresia, schizofrenia, Tourette sindrom, insomnia, bifurcation of personality etc. as they are from soul illnesses. Firstly everyone must to eradicate schizofrenia, depression etc. from him and after that to planify making children, in order that they will not jump from balconie, have blood cancer, be born bodytobody joined twins or two headed and etc. These soul illnesses can be healed by eucharisty. In the afternoon before eucharist day you have to read " The prayers before eucharisty" where are asked from eucharisty such things like: soul and body healing, sins forgiveness, protection from devils etc. It is better to go to confession in the morning in the day of eucharisty(before eucharisty)because from evening to morning everyone can make the same sins again and again and also other bigger sins. If not to forgive someone who asked for forgiveness it is not worth going to eucharisty because the sins will not be forgiven. Humbleness is awareness that in every doing you can fall and not auto-oppresion as most do and think, someone without auto-oppression is 100% free in moves in every direction, it is like a lion at freedom .Entering(submersion 3 times with a certain prayer and crossing yourself) in water springs of orthodox saints (which are near or in monasteries)give very much power and sureness to people with depression, panic attacks, schizofrenia and other soul illnesses, there are some springs of mother of God Maria that even heal soul illnesses.
