A "Drone" with a human pilot is no longer a "Drone"...
VTOL can be manned or unmanned
@@jimbopg4245 When it is manned, it's not a drone. When it is unmanned, it's a drone. What makes or brakes it being or not being a drone is whether or not there is a person on board. It's not a permanent state of being. IF you fly a 777 passenger plane, empty, with no people on it, it's a drone.

I dont thnk the purpose of this "drone" is to remain a drone but to place a pilot inside and fly.
we are getting closer and closer to that concept of alien craft where they can hove in place and take off while having a higher maneuverability than a plane.

I believe, six legs, so that is 12 props all working in sequence to balance the craft in incredible increments of timing..
"Manned Drone" is kind of an oxymoron I think. Just call it Multirotor Racing
Exactly.
Yes at what point is it no longer a drone. I thought drone meant unmanned aircraft/ vehicle.
Give the pilot a handgun, then we can call it a "Manned combat drone" 😕.........I'm sorry.
It's manned drone because it can revert back to being unmanned in a millisecond!
I strongly agree. To accurately define "drone"; A drone is an automaton or machine tasked with instructions that it completes on its own, whether air fixed wing, rotorcraft, ballon, land, sea or spaceborne. In other words, you don't have any knowledge to operate the craft whatever the vehicle it is, and the flight or operational controls won't let the pilot do anything outside the bounds of its programming. Just tell it where to go and what to do, and it completes the driving or flying, as well as what it does when it gets there and can return without any further intervention from its operator, just like the GPS-guided multi-rotor craft, full-autopilot planes, and self-driving cars, helicopters, ships and submarines.
The flight systems onboard RC multi-rotors completely insulate the operator from any need for knowledge or discipline to operate the craft. They are completely ignorant of any rules, requirements, or regulations. Drones are now given to adolescents and adults as a 'toy'. The POV technology now has created fear through stupidity picked up by the media in addition to gross violations of FAA airspace. Those people have threatened the entire RC hobby for the rest of us. They have awoken the FAA beast, who has been peacefully sleeping for a half-century when it came to the operation of RC aircraft. This is the last month to comment on the FAA's proposed ruling on this exact issue, so make your voice heard. www.federalregister.gov/documents/2019/12/31/2019-28100/remote-identification-of-unmanned-aircraft-systems

Wow, really does feel like witnessing the future. The tech is at the point where we're one energy storage breakthrough away from the world changing dramatically, but even without that, constant advancements in battery tech are getting us there.
No it won't. If you have a malfunction on this you die. No matter what you die. On a helicopter you can land by auto rotation and have a chance of survival. With this one not.
@@peterzingler6221 depends, most quad racing is done at 8ft up or lower, if they make a crash cell for the pilot to withstand impacts it should be survivable should the unexpected happen. Also a ballistic chute is an obvious choice.
nighthawk0077 a ballistic chute wouldn’t help at low altitudes, which means even with a crash pot there would likely be stages of flight which you wouldn’t be able to survive a loss of power/control in, which given how unstable the design is means this could still be unsafe

"Manned drone"? So this is a "manned unmanned vehicle"? Interesting concept. But if it crashes, does it make the pilot an undead dead?
It's the people who are not scared that are moving the world forward. When the airplane was invented people thought it's probably more deadly then this. ;)

"Not the drone we need, but the drone we want."
Well maybe eventually it will even get its own classification. You probably could call it sexcopter (six in Latin = sex) but that probably would be quite silly.
@@JackieWelles Multi-rotor Aircraft is already a classification. There were experiments during ww2 with flying disk-shaped thing that was intended to be used as a scouting vehicle. At the time it was deemed too unstable of a platform. It was the same basic concept as this, multiple fans forcing air down to lift a craft into the air, the problem was that a human could not make the thousand of adjustments needed to keep the thing in the air. We now have computers small and smart enough to make those adjustments. The technology has caught up with the concept.
The use of an F1 monocoque is brilliant. Lightweight, aerodynamic, sturdy, and already designed and built.
The F1 monocoque is designed for airflow passing nose to tail, not for the airflow around a multi-copter, and really doesn't fit well for this usage case. If the motors rotated for forward flight it might be a but more appropriate, but still not ideal. The use F1 monocoque is really about marketing not engineering. It does look cool so it's served it's function.
@derestricted It "might" be impact resistant in this context, it all depends on how it's connected to the main spars and pilot seat/cage.
In aircraft design you have to really have to optimise everything for it's specific purpose, aerodynamically, structurally, weight, failure modes. it's very different set of things you are optimizing for compared F1 or any other car.
Just taking stuff from a F1 car isn't going to make it optimal for a multi-copter, it'll weight more and function less well. Your aircraft will be compromised because of it.
not good design for the way a quad moves. the back is unnessesary wide for flight and will cause a lot of drag. front is ok.
@@lrz98gaming5 You have fallen for the marketing. No structural component works on it's own, as soon as you take the shell away from the rest of the functional structure it ceases to function as intended., it's not the same thing anymore. You simply can't equate F1 monocoque on the F1 chasis it was designed for to a multi-coptor. demonstrator.

Omg I can't believe it I can't wait to see racing in the future it reminds me of star wars when they have the race pods
imagine having this to travel around. that would be amazing
The “DART”or a dart,I can hear f1 style commentary in my head now.Imagine yourself inside one of those small neon lit racing drones, going through rings of fire and down neon lit tunnels, imagine the G’s.It would be the best and most popular sport in the WORLD,imagine a sport that the whole world tunes in for!100%GOLDMINE!.I had to add this, just though of it now.M,A,V,or mav for short.Manned Ariel Vehicle,as a possible name for this marvel of engineering?
Rob Smith and spectacular crashes. Would make formula 1 slow as molasses in comparison. The UFC of the air.
100% fatality in crashes 😨😱
Imagine the crazy pilots that will fly with this.
The boomers would never tune into this.
PandaGmail, not necessarily you could start of with a standard race car style track. And also the pilot would have to undergo a lot of training on a simulator,if I were the designers I’d mount a rotor-less version on a flight simulator platform with a giant hi def screen surrounding the entire platform, a dome screen maybe. It may be a while yet but it COULD be done!
I would call it "The Yellow Jacket"
KJP Photography “Hornet” is better
Was that an ant-man reference 😂
@@shadowrl1593 Nope, but now that you said it- it sounds like it. lol
Vespa Crabro
@Eddie Holmes Didn't get them name from there. The body shape and color is what made me think of the name.
This is the future! Very important step.
If you put external bags, for safety, emergency, you can fly more free, more altitude etc. The external bags are similar to passenger aircraft emergency ladder but with a small turbocompressor for keep inflate for long time, also similar to car airbags but bigger. Of course is extra weight but the safety is almost 100% (quick opened, fall slower and soft ground touch)
In this video: We found the stigs pilot cousin and we show him at the intro
Josh tightens a bolt. And a German flies a banana.
The “DCL BumbleBee” because it’s yellow and black and it shouldn’t be able to fly!😂
I'm late to the party....what an accomplishment for you all. History was made and will forever be remembered. A round of applause and a moment of silence for you all.
WOW!!!
SUPER COOL!!!!
