I was originally thinking of getting quite a few of these, that was until I seen it used wire tails and not terminals like on the other light switches which I think is quite disappointing.
Functionally you only need the hot and neutral wire for it to work. Keep in mind this is not recommended nor is it O.K cause of electrical standards & safety. So the correct way to install it in your case would be to: - Findout if there is an outlet which has ground and is on the same fuse - Add a groundwire from that outlet to the outlet which is missing the ground. Easiest would be to hire an electrician ofcourse.
If the outlet is protected downstream from a GFI receptacle or connected to a GFI breaker, you can leave the ground disconnected or "floating" in some areas. Other municipalities require you to pull a new wire with a ground. Check with your local electrical inspector to see what's allowed where you live. Using a "cheater" or "pirate" ground (connecting ground and neutral at the receptacle) is unsafe, as someone later could potentially swap the wires upstream of the outlet, leading to equipment with an energized chassis. Do not do that.
Hi, Gage. If you still need assistance, installation of the Z-Wave outlet begins at 1:47 after the traditional outlet is removed. You can also contact our U.S.-based consumer care at 1-800-654-8483, M-F, 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Central Time with any additional questions.
Thank you for the response! I figured it out. I had to use a pigtail connection which isn't quite the case in this video. My situation complicated the process a bit, whereas in the video he is simply connecting wires with a wire nut.
Hi, Dave. A factory reset for this generation of Z-Wave device is performed from your hub. The steps for this process are determined by the hub manufacturer. If you have additional questions about the Z-Wave outlet, our U.S.-based consumer care is also available at 1-800-654-8483, M-F, 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Central Time.
@@JascoProductsCompany Hubitat documentation states that models 12XXX "do not support a factory reset" and that I can only exclude from my Zwave network. I'll be interested to see if it is able to pair with the new hub.
Dave, You are correct; we misspoke by saying the factory reset instead of exclusion is done through the hub with this item. Any generation of Z-Wave device will respond to the exclusion command from a hub and can then be added to a new hub. If you have any issues, feel free to contact us.
@@JascoProductsCompany Finally got around to migrating from a C4 Hubitat Hub to the C7 model. I put the old C4 hub into exclusion mode and press the zwave button on your outlet one time but it simply will not exclude from the hub. So, what's your advice, if any?

What a terrible video, seems like whoever edited the video, edited out him wiring the zwave outlet!

"take a moment to label your wires."
What the hell for?
The only reason I watched this video was to watch him wire the new outlet...

Couldn't be bothered to show how to do a factory reset, huh?
