    Just got mine today! And actually did a small square duct tape thing on the holes. That's the tip I got from this video!

    Great tips, thank you, Josh. May I add something: The lens ring comes off easily, but there is a very small screw at about 5 pm that you can tighten for a firmer hold. A replacement ring from JJC, for example, does not have this screw!

    The best place to attach the strap is at the bottom of the camera, it keeps it out of the way, a small detail that makes a big difference!

      Idk why I didn’t think of this lol. Just tried, does make a noticeable difference of not having the strap in your way while shooting. Also provides a bit more confidence in case of a drop since the strap doesn’t have a tightening function. Thanks for sharing!!

      Those cameras are still around, this just isn't one of them. It may just come with the territory of building a small point and shoot with a leaf shutter.

    Hello. Thanks for this video. I would like to suggest others GR3 users to attach the wrist strap not to the upper eyelet but to the lower one. Just try it. The hand fits much better.

    Some good tips, I'll have to cover up some of those openings as well just to be safe. I bought a small Lowepro carrying case for my GRIIIx that would be the only other suggestion I'd add. Cheers from Winnipeg and a fellow Ricoh user 🌾🌾 Brett

    The control wheel on the back is also an entryway for dust according to some sources.

      @@DOPJoshDiaz The bottom line here is that you shouldn't put the GR bodies in a pocket. They are pocketable cameras but they don't belong in pockets. Sad, but true.

      @@thedarkslide After more than 2 years of putting it in my pocket or anywhere for that matter, including in that side door pocket in my car, , I have never had a dust issue. However, experience does seem to vary based on a number of reviews I have read.

    • @thedarkslide
      @thedarkslide Před 2 měsíci

      @@kbstabs5982 Also, it depends what and how you photograph. You would have to stop down to see it very noticeably in evenly lit areas of the frame (e.g. the sky etc.). You have dust but never notice it because you never stop down that much.

    Good tips, I've done most of these myself. In addition, I've added the stick-op JJC UV filter, which adds less than 2mm to the depth of the camera, but fully protects the front curtain. Use caution, though, if you need to remove it (as several CZcamsrs have warned about), otherwise you could damage the camera. Others have suggested putting the add-on lens adapter + filter on the camera to prevent dust, but that adds about 20mm to the depth of the camera, making it no long pocketable.
    I wonder, though, if taping the microphone and speaker holes has any effect on sensor dust, because I assume that these are separate sealed components within the densely packed camera interior. I doubt that the whole camera has one empty chamber, with the sensor and other components occupying the same cavity.

    • @DOPJoshDiaz
      @DOPJoshDiaz  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks for the info. There's certainly a lot of aftermarket support for this camera. I'll probably try a few more items in the coming months.
      As for the sensor dust, I'm not sure the tape really helps... but it does give some piece of mind!

    I find the thumb rest that attaches to the hot shoe a big help. This makes holding the camera easier.

    I wanted to get a minimalist pouch to sort the problem with the dust when you place the camera in a pocket (which is exactly where I want to keep it sometimes) or a non-camera dedicated bag, but I'll just tailor and sew it myself, how hard can it be? I just don't know what fabric I can use so that the fabric itself won't shed dust... any ideas? Being water repellent would be nice too.
