  • Pilot Mountain State Park in North Carolina is iconic. It has the signature "knob" visible for miles, a road to the base of the knob and a trail around the knob (Jomeokee Trail). It also has good trails following Pilot Creek, and a southern part of the park that is much less visited and a very nice Ivy Bluff Trail for families.

    I just recently found your channel. So far, I very much enjoy it! I live in Elkin, NC and have spent many hours wandering the trails at Pilot Mountain, Stone Mountain, Hanging Rock...and other park here in my adopted home of North Carolina.
    I am originally from central California and am looking forward to your videos on Yosemite and Sequoia/ Kings Canyon.
    Keep up the good work and happy hiking, y'all!

      Thank you very much. Great to hear from a fellow North Carolinian! Elkin is in such great location, especially for the mountains!
      We are mostly done with all of the state parks in NC. 33 down, 8 more to go. Hopefully, we can finish within one year of starting this quest (mid-May, 2021)
      Pilot Mountain, Hanging Rock, Stone Mountain are three in my top 10 NC state park list, maybe even 3 out of the top 5. We haven't been to South Mountain, Morrow Mountain or Crowders Mountain yet.
      Central CA has so many beautiful sights! Check out the following:

      Sequoia: czcams.com/video/5kXar4sUu0g/video.html
      Kings Canyon: czcams.com/video/xP5kEW3TzJY/video.html
      I plan to re-do these and hopefully revisit these parks. When I last went, I didn't get enough footage/pictures because I wasn't intending to doing a video. I will get it the next time!

    I like watching your videos. I liked seeing all the ferns growing along the trail. It seems like a beautiful park.

    I drove by it when I went to go pick up a JDM import kei truck the other day. I wish I could have came up there. People are lucky to live in a beautiful place. I hope you had fun too!

    Such a great video! I live in Winston Salem (just moved here 8 months ago) and want to get into exploring the parks around here. Definitely adding this place to my list of parks to visit!

    I have been driving past this park my entire life. The next time I head south I am scheduling a trip to this park.

      Great - but be sure to check on the status. They now restrict driving to the top and provide shuttle buses at times.

    Man I wish I could walk on the old stairs🤣

  • @greatsouthmarketing8897

    We just went here. For others watching, they don’t really allow cars to drive up on the weekends. You have to pay and wait for a shuttle. It’s a bit of a pain. I was told early in the morning, you may still be able to drive up. Worth all the trouble though.

    Are you Chinese? I enjoyed visiting Tennessee and North Carolina (Great Smokies and Chattanooga) because the weather and scenery there remind me a lot of the Jiangnan (Yangtze River Delta) area of China. Raleigh actually has a very similar climate to Nanjing, China.

    • @JourneytoAllNationalParks
      @JourneytoAllNationalParks  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, but somehow, I think Nanjing is hotter... or maybe it was just hot the couple of times I visited Nanjing. Yes, the scenery are similar between NC and Jiangnan

    Did you say it receives 100,000 or 800,000 visitors per year?

    • @JourneytoAllNationalParks
      @JourneytoAllNationalParks  Před rokem

      In the video, it says 800k, but that was three years ago. In 2022, Pilot Mountain actually had more than a million visitors. They now restrict access to the top, so check on that before you go

    Il modo giusto di vivere la montagna in sicurezza ma di alpinismo si muore giornalmente e l'importante è non parlarne altrimenti il turismo sacro ne risente $$$$ :

    too bad they had to put an ugly paved parking lot on such a beautiful natural place, one day with flying cars all this can be eliminated
