      Kendrick Lamar made an album (To Pimp a Butterfly) that inspired and changed the minds of millions...millions of Black, White, Asian, Hispanic kids and adults. In such a talented, versatile way that not only oldheads, that like jazz and "old people music" can listen to, but the new generation can bump to it, aswell. Touching on the state of America, gangbanging, parents, colorism, poverty, and revolutionary hero's such as Nelson Mandela and Malcolm X. And mistake me if I'm wrong, but 2pac also done most of that aswell

    • @ladybambi899
      @ladybambi899 Před 6 lety +30

      Kdot also made an album before that one named "good kid, mAAd city", or "GKMC", and it's a narrative of the life of a young, black, male being affiliated with murderers, drug dealers, and the Piru gang. This album has won accolades and is known for one of the best, descriptive albums. Again, 2pac also spoke much about violence and gangbangin and shit. Compare Keisha's Song to Brenda's Got A Baby. Alright to Keep Ya Head Up. They both give emotion off in they songs, every word has a deeper meaning than the last. They both know living the stereotypical poor African American life is hard to live which is why they both praise black people so much.
      So, Kendrick done shit, Kendrick definitely done shit

    That's what's missing in the general perception of Hip-Hop, that multi-dimensional characterization of the artists. We're more than just a representation of an ideal or a set of values; there is human vulnerability, fluctuating identities, creativity in this ever-changing English language, and rollercoasters of emotions dealing with family, friends, manhood, womanhood, gender roles, and other societal pressures.
    That's precisely what made Tupac special...in his contradictions as a human, as a man, he ultimately shined a beautifully tragic light on all of our complexities.
    Thanks PBS for all of the "Blank on Blank" videos; they help brighten the human experience.

      This just shows that you have to be real. None of this bullshit about sex, money, and fame. That isnt real. Nobody can relate other than the other people that are at your level as well. Music is a relationship to the people, not about showing how cool you think you are or try to make yourself look out to be. Kurt Cobain, Tupac, John Lennon, Eminem, and many others. They speak the truth and that is why they will forever be the greatest. They spoke from their hearts. Not from their dicks or their minds. (partially from the mind in order to make the lyrics for the songs, but you get the gist of what I am saying)

      MrJarvishead I get your point with 2pac reveling in the lifestyle he professed to hate. Pushing "Thug Life" and the violence surrounding it didnt help. But, the media did help push Pac to be a persona he didn't want to be. If you listen to interviews from his friends after his death, Treach, Shock G, and others say that's not the 2pac they remember. They remember an intelligent, philosophical black man who wanted only the best for everyone. The public only saw a 2pac who would only half heartily support Death Row because he owed them a shit load of money for bailing him out of jail. I think Pac wanted out of Death Row as much as Dre and Snoop did. He was just stuck and had to live up to the game he was a part of.

      +Aardvarked88 Exactly, the real tragedy is he was born in NY, his first rap name was mc new york, then when he went to cali became a known rapper he went to ny for above the rim, he loved it there and loved ny rap and then getting shot in ny and dissed by many ny rappers. Got to jail for rape, while at that time his most know song was keep ya head up. Went to death row after getting bailed out. His reason that he went there was because death row was enemies with bad boy and big and he thought they had his back to go to war with bad boy. Then getting screwed over by death row and eventually getting killed in the coast that he represented like no other. Tupac Shakur is a modern tragic hero. If shakespeare lived in the 90s in the Usa he would to tell you himself that he couldnt write a better tragedy than tupacs life.

I like music, meaning and seems like he had that, and was real...not like (well most music today) which is processed garbage. Not pretentious or anything like that. This interview has made me respect him even more. "I feel like a tragic hero in a Shakespeare play" and to actually say that bad publicity is not necessarily good publicity, and he was crushed by what Dan Quayle of all people would say...damn, who would admit this? Even if they felt so, could pull the badass role but to admit the words hurt him? Have to respect that. I also gather he realized later on a lot of mistakes he made, (while not to that extent who hasn't looked back on younger days with some regret?) This guy was just a human being, and refreshing to hear especially from the rap world

    This guy teached me more than my school teachers.
    Because people like Tupac teach you about Life, teach you about the important things about it. From relationships to things like death. He motivates you, he inspires you. Rappers always have been seen like bad people. I don't mean bad people like thugs or criminals, I mean bad people like people that only want to see the world burn. But I? I see rappers as life teachers. And 2pac was one of the best teachers, because he was 100% real. He told the truth in every moment of his carreer only to teach us. Legend.

    These animations will never get the attention that the Coachella hologram received, but I give the boys and girls at PBS the edge. Since 3rd grade I have been infatuated and inspired by 2pac and the fact that so many people still misinterpret his importance and misunderstand his intentions drives me insane. What a clever way to tell the story of an American Icon like Pac so that it might reach an entirely different audience. Well done.

To not bow down to anyone, to be above the ones who looked down upon you and tell them with a smile on your face, "fuck you." To have a purpose in life and run along with it, make it big, explode it, make it yours truthfully. To reach down to the ones who you love and to crush the ones who don't.
