Thanks for opening it. From what you see inside, can you tell if it's running RAM in dual-channel or single channel?
Great review, Do you know what size(TR?) and type(Torx) of screws driver is required to remove the back? I had an issue with the Micro SD slot. I put in a SD and it slid over the slot into the casing instead of into the slot. Could not remove with tweasers so am removing the cover to retrieve.
Matt- The same happened to me. Can you tell me if you were successful in retrieving your sd card and how you did this? Best Buy tried to help and took off the back cover, but the card is not accessible without removing the cpu, battery, and more.

The updated model has 8GB of RAM, uses the m7 CPU, and I think more internal storage, too.
I just picked one up today because it was on sale on eBay and I was going to pick up another screen for my original Chromebook that I had which is the cp101 with 4 GB Ram but I thought hey I'll try this out why not.

thanks for the review, i just received it. its great. however seeing every 5-8 minutes network drop, i have a dedicated AC2600 router with everything well tuned, something is happening, not sure if its c302 or chromeos itself. I see NETWORK_changed errors, basically the network disconnects or drops. Any idea what this might be ? hardware or software? tried both 2.4ghz and 5ghz, 5ghz (even fairly close) seems to report 40-70% signal strength which is odd. thank you for any tips
Its the fact tht the network is not tht good
I'm very, very late but I believe its a problem with Bluetooth being active that was long present in Linux

No mention of backlit keyboard - a feature so difficult to find and sought by many, based on my searches.

Great review! I was wondering if microsoft office for android works on the Asus C302. I would be interested to know if its compatible, since I would like to use some offline applications.

With the Asus C302 you are able to download the Microsoft Suite of apps(Word, PP, Excel) and use them offline. Keep in mind, you will need an office 365 subscription for this. Thank you for the question!
Also keep in mind they're the mobile versions, so any Powerpoint greater than 100 MB will NOT open, for example. Read back in November an article that said Microsoft will work with GOogle to make a more fully featured version of Office apps for Chrome since most will NEED a subscription (screen sizes 11.6" or bigger), but haven't heard a peep since. Not perfect, but it's something.

Had the same problem as Matt Brewer below; build or design related. Having had the ASUS C302 for 4 months I decided to use the microSD port. It swallowed my SD card and although I could see it next to the slot I couldn't retrieve it. Currys store was little help so I followed a help line route via ASUS to a company called LetMeRepair, ASUS's repair Agents, who collected it. They said I had damaged it and gave me three choices.
1. Repair it for £521.64 (Curry's sell a new one for £399 atm)
2. Have it returned unrepaired for £45.00
3. They will keep it at no charge!
As Matt and others comment it's obviously not an uncommon fault!
Was it a mistake to buy from Currys or to buy an ASUS chromebook?

True, but Currys sold the machine with the Asus manufacturer's warranty so I was using that. I didn't really expect them to be so unhelpful!

Jhosman Lizarazo you can install Windows 10. Don't expect it to run it very well on an M3.
Windows 10s is your best bet

Disappointing you can’t upgrade it...
Actually the build quality is very poor, the bottom of the body is NOT metal but in fact plastic, the flex in the body is very bad and the body of mine has cracked on the left bottom cormer next to the trackpad, after searching on Google I found this is something many other people have complained about, after contacting Asus about this they were not very understanding about the problem and definitely would not admit that it was a know issue, they offered to fix it with repair and postage costs, I agree the wifi card is the only part you can upgrade, maybe this would be a good idea as the wifi card receiver is not very powerful, in fact my mobile phone from Samsung has a better signal, sometimes for no reason it just disconnects from my network.
Overall it's not a bad Chromebook, it has some faults which are small, but a shame as they could easily have been avoided in design and production, the plastic body trying to pretend it's aluminium is just a cheap rip off, would 8gb ram to too much to ask for ? and this is no cheap Chromebook, to be honest it's overpriced.
