The D300s is my main camera and still my favorite. 12mp is enough. Even the newer D500 body isn't built to the same pro-level quality. A true classic and absolutely a keeper!

Thank you so much for this nice video. I just ordered a used D300 with only 2300 shots. I can't wait to get out there and try it out, leaving my Z-bodies at home. Thanks again. Warm greetings from Italy. Stefano

Sometimes, I still go out with my old D100 and 35mm lens. No phone, smartwatch, just my camera. I get so excited and happy. Tried it with my old F100, but time consuming to get the film processed and printed. I miss the old stuff.

Just got a used D 300 and got it gone through by a shop. Can’t wait to try it out.

I still love my D300. I bought it in June 2008 and have taken it around the world! I know there are better cameras out there, but the D300 is old faithful for me.

I picked up a D300 a few years ago because I still had a few Nikon lenses. A 50mm 1.8, the two kit lenses, and an old Kiron-made Vivitar manual zoom, left over from the D90 body I got rid of a few years before that. I first took it out with the 50mm and the vintage lens. I was quite surprised with how the images came out. As noted, a rather filmic quality and quite sharp. I confess I haven't had it out since then, but I'm in the process of getting rid of some of my newer, though probably still considered vintage, Canon DSLRs and larger, 2.8 zooms. My intent is to just use the D300 for that look. Oh, and I really enjoyed using it too. I want to get the 300mm f4 like I used to have and love. That, the 50mm, and the vintage zoom will also work on my Nikon FM. Another camera I used back in the day to make a living.
Old digicams have developed a cult following, particularly the CCD models, for their filmic look. To the point that the prices are quite often over $200 US. For that money, you can find a D300 and a lens, or two D300s, that will give you a more filmic look and a larger image. Granted, it's more of a beast to drag around and not as handy as an old digicam. So, I have both. ;)

I got my D300S (which has two card slots, CF and SD) a few months ago and I'm loving it. It's a spectacular camera packed with features and highly configurable

Ah the D300, that was my workhorse camera. The weight seems heavy by today's standard and I used the grip with the EL-EL4 battery with my setup. I kept the grip on all the time as I liked that setup. Even after I got the D500, I continued to use it as I was more comfortable with it. It was a great camera. While I liked my Z6/6 II, the Z8 feels better to me and I guess it's because the weight is so similar to the D300. Thanks for the video of this champion of a camera, brings back a lot of memories.

Spend a couple dollars more and get a D300S instead. Last August I found a mint 300S with a shutter count of 2,801 and came with a 16-85 lens for $350CDN. Love the camera, excellent focussing, sharp and quick. Back in 2010 I wanted a 300S but could not justify the extra cost over a D7000 almost double the cost, I bought the 7000 instead and have hated it ever since. You can never get it to focus properly, it is sharp either fore or aft but never on the subject matter you wanted (so many blown pictures) The 300s is built like a tank and still performs well today except in low light where a modern camera is way better. But if you photography is outdoors, nature or sports you can't lose with this camers

Re the d7000, did you fine tune the autofocus? Or was it still off? Just curious as I have a d300 and was considering an upgrade. Cheers

      @YYZ-SRQ Před 5 měsíci +2

@@bonjovi1612 tried fine tuning but still seems off. My D300S has become my workhorse camera and can completely depend on it. While if gives up 4mp to the D7000, the quick and accurate autofocus and the build quality more than makes up, and pictures are far superior with it then the D7000

I got mine a couple months ago: 28xx shutter count PRISTIIIINE body, variable aperture 28-105 and 70-210 D lenses, also pristine and a tiny Nikon DX speedlight. ALL FOR 130 USD. The ISO/WB/QUAL buttons were not working (the ribbon cable was broken). Got the button off AliExpress for 10$ delivered and fixed it myself using the official service manual 😎🤓😎

Just got one a little over a month ago. Great camera at a great price.......but naturally, it has been technologically outclassed by modern cameras. But for the price though, it's tough to beat.

My two kids, ages 5 and 7, have an interest in photography. I bought them two D300s for them to learn photography with. This camera is a solid build and can withstand my kids. I can take pictures with them with my D700, since the control layout are practically the same.

I have a D300 and I recommend it to anyone who is starting their adventure with fptography. Despite its age, it is still one of the best Nikon reflex cameras. Virtually devoid of disadvantages, and plenty of advantages.
    My lenses
    Tokina 11-16 2.8 DX II
    Nikkor 50 1.8D
    Sigma 70-200 2.8
    Sigma 105 2.8
    Next buy lens Sigma 17-50 2.8 🥰

Totally agree with you, the D300 is a great camera i still use mine regulary, paired with the Nikon 16-85 AF-S DX lens. I have the nikon battery grip on mine it adds weight but improves the handling i think, along with my D70S they both get used a fair amount.

I have "too many" cameras (if that's possible). The D300 is probably my all around favorite. I still shoot like it's film, so... slow and deliberate. It's perfect for this type of use. It works really well with the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 lens. (At least my copy). For an evening walk, it's tough to get a better combo. BTW, it seems to me, that the 50mm 1.8D lens works a little better than the (usually superior) 50mm 1.8G lens, on this body. I don't know why, but it's cheaper, and could save you a few bucks.

Boa luz.
