    Dear Murray Gold, the song you composed "This is Gallifrey, Our Childhood, Our Home" is the most breath taking piece I have ever heard. Bravo...even though you may never see this comment, bravo!

    Why is this man not making film music??!! He's SO overqualified for television! I love his music for Doctor Who, it makes for all these uber emotional moments you would never expect in a show like that.

      Haha, yeah, I always say that. He's too good for television, sometimes his scores are so good that they distract from the visuals.

      I agree he's immensely talented but imo his mastery of leitmotifs is much better suited for television. As he said at the beginning, movies and theater are one musical package, the end. Television allows him to take a theme from Season 1 and reinvigorate it 8 seasons later in a way that gives me chills. (Ex: the 9th Doctor's theme being turned into a sort of military march in Hell Bent).

    Just reinforces my belief that Murray writes straight from the heart. I've always known this. The results speak for themselves. I think it was around Ep2 of DW that I started to realise that we had something really special going on here music-wise. I suspect it was Rose's Theme first.

      The Shepherd's Boy (Breaking The Wall) is undeniably one of his greatest masterpieces, however the rest of the incidental music for 'Heaven Sent' I think is very generic. Take a listen to Beethoven's 7th Symphony and tell me you don't hear the the similarities. It works very effectively in the episode but it's not original which marks it down in my books. Especially when I know he's better than that as he has proven time and time again thathe can write original music.

      YES!! Murray Gold is one of those really rare composers that really knows how to use every single part of an orchestra to create some stunningly beautiful medleys. I always thought Michael Giacchino’s score for Rogue One was a little toothless aside from ‘Your father would be proud’ and ‘Hope’, but MG’s work for Doctor Who has been consistently astounding. Give him the LSO and choir, a blank canvas, at let him have at it for Star Wars.

      its a huge shame. The music of series 11 was just awful. So forgettable and just generic as hell. Doesn't help that Chibnalls writing is terrible too. Man i hope he just gets fired and Jodie Whitaker gets to perform to a writer who actually has some inspiration. She could be brilliant. The writing has let her down so far.

    • @noahcox7762
      @noahcox7762 Před 4 lety +2

      Tom Gallagher Could not agree with you more, people have been giving her so much flak when the problem is simply inconsistent, unfocused and unexciting writing. The dull music definitely doesn’t help either. She could be so brilliant.

    • @calumobrien9234
      @calumobrien9234 Před 4 lety

      I don’t think Chibnall is the problem. It’s well established that he can write really well. Think Broadchurch, Torchwood, even a Doctor Who before he was lead writer. The BBC is almost certainly restraining Chibnall from doing anything creative with it.
      I get the impression the same is with the new composer. I’ve heard a little bit of his other stuff, which is a lot better. I suspect he’s being limited by the BBC’s ‘vision’.
