  • The Skoda Fabia won the What Car? Car of the Year Award a few years back, in part thanks to its fine road manners, comfortable interior and affordability. The Fabia Estate builds on the hatch’s already impressive credentials with the addition of an even larger boot.

    As an owner of the car for 5 year now and looking at 3 different reviews of this car on this channel i'm suprised by the points that they bring up ...
    All the things that have botherd me over the years are totally the opposite here .
    -plenty of power with a full booth they say... i've got the 109bhp version and even that one struggles with a full booth on the motorway .. up to 70mph is its power zone . If you
    Want to do an quick overtake you'll have to go down to 5th it really lacks power in sixt @ those speeds .
    Plenty of space in the back even for adults ... also not really true . If you have someone that is 1.80m in the front you will have to put the seat almost all the way back to let him sit comfortable .. so the back wont have the space . I personally could fit a maxi cosi behind the drivers seat because of that issue .
    3th is the sound proofing .. try to listen to the radio on a normal volume . Then step out of the car even with all doors and windows shut. You'll almost won't notice a drop in volume .. i find this sometimes quite annoying when coming home late @night.
    It's not that i want to hate on the car it really served me well over the years and i really like . For that price range i dont think you will find a beter car (sold new) . I just realised while watching this that the cons i have had with the are told there like they are pro's...
    well if you made it all the way here . Thanks for reading such a long comment 😀 hope it helps you in making a choice

    Understanding that i am a bit of an old fossil i really can't stand the trend for piddly little engines. I couldn't drive a mid sized estate car like this with a 1ltr petrol or 1.4 diesel. Where are all the 2.0 engines? Not for me which is a shame because otherwise this looks like a good car.

    • @tortozza
      @tortozza Před 6 lety +6

      sonofjak1971 Because a 1.0 turbo has the same power output as a naturally aspirated 1.6 from the 2000s, and more torque.

    • @sonofjak1971
      @sonofjak1971 Před 6 lety +3

      I'm fully aware of all the numbers which is partly why i refer to myself as an old fossil. They might all have more than enough power and torque but i don't want a vehicle that sounds like a strangled chicken every time i put my foot down. It just doesn't sit right for me personally.

    • @syntheee
      @syntheee Před 6 lety +1

      I owned a 1.6 (115 PS) naturally aspirated Astra H before, the Fabia with 110 PS is quicker and you don't need to rev it as much. Fuel consumption is down from 6,5 l/100km to 5,2 l/100km after 8.000 km. Neither the Astra nor the Skoda sound interesting to me. Definitely a downside of the skoda is not the engine noise but road noise. Seems like Skoda tried to save some money on sound insulation. But overall it is ok for the price ...

    I bought a 2009 Fabia estate 1.4 diesel a few months ago, despite it's low mileage, 64mpg and engine reliability I have had problem after
    problem with it. The alarm randomly goes off, the tailgate refuses to open (negates any use as an estate, the reason I bought it), bits of
    trim falling off, dreadful steering. It's true I only paid £2.5k for it plus I had the cambelt done and new tyres. But in all honesty it's the
    worst car I've ever bought in 40 plus years of car ownership, it's a pile of crap and worthy of every skoda joke going (and there's plenty of
    them). Perhaps the newer ones are built better? but from my experience I wouldn't risk it.

      I bought one in 2013. So far I spent € 63,00 on a new battery and € 256,00 on a new dynamo. I have driven 135.000 km and it still runs very smoothly. In our country (the Netherlands) the garage wo sells you a car is legally responsible for the quality during 6 months after you bought it even though they sell it to you without any warranty. I think in your case it is bad luck and I don't know if you have any legally means to force the seller to restore your problems with the car. Have you held the seller responsible for the problems with the car and what was his response if you did that?
