Syndrome’s name is a reference to Hero Syndrome, a condition where a person creates dangerous situations so that they can play the “hero”, which is exactly what Syndrome did in the movie.

Mary: "She's multi=purpose." Exactly what Brad Bird (the writer, director, and voice of Edna) intended. Each of the powers corresponds to what the characters are. Bob is the father so his power is strength and toughness. Helen is mom, so he has to be superflexible. Violet is the teenage girl, so wants to be invisible and shield herself from the world. Dash is a boy who is nothing but a ball of energy zooming around. Jack Jack is the baby, so he can change moods (and powers) with a moment's notice. And Frozone is voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, so he's cool.

The true villains of this movie: The lawyers, the government, and the corporations.

    • @emaarredondo-librarian
      @emaarredondo-librarian Před 9 měsíci

Yeah. Imagine a world without the due process of law, where instead of calling the police or having a lawyer to defend you if unjustly accused, you'd have to rely on a superhero noticing you. A world without any government to provide the frame in which daily life happens: infrastructure, education, healthcare, all the things governments in civilized countries provide and which superheroes do not. A world without business and commerce to create economy to provide you with the stuff you consume and use, and the services you require - ever tried to grow, raise and manufacture everything you need for making breakfast?
That's the inherent flaw of superhero movies. They make of humans a herd of cattle unable to do anything for themselves without a superhero saving them - from supervillains. As if real life were like that.
Which superhero do you picture *solving* the problem in the Middle East? Not destroying one side and favoring the other. SOLVING the problem. Law, governments and even corporations have a bigger chance than any imaginary superhero.

He had faced his absolute worst nightmare, gone through that ultimate pain, and knows, deep within him, with unshakable certainty, he won't ever be able to face it again. He'd rather die himself than face it again.😢 No physical pain would ever come close to that.
That's also why he was so ridiculously overjoyed when he saw Helen, even when he knew he was in deep kimchi for lying to her. He had just recovered from that nightmare, and now nothing comes between him and saving his family.

In the original script it was supposed to be even darker. Helen was supposed to have the guy she called be the pilot who flies her (and the kids). But ultimately she could only save herself and the kids, but not him from the explosion. When the debris from the plane crashes into the ocean around them Helen was supposed to come face to face with the slowly sinking corpse of her pilot friend.
This was to show that such actions have irreversible consequences. But that was considered too dark for a kids' movie so they changed it to the one we saw.

-This movie (up to that time) was the most labour intensive animation for Pixar. For instance, Finding nemo had just over 40 separate settings... This movie had over 200.

Not just one of my favorite Pixar movies, but one of my favorite movies period. The combination of superhero shenanigans and family dynamics is absolutely wonderful. It's also interesting to note that Edna Mode, designer of superhero costumes, is somewhat based on Edith Head, who designed costumes for many classic Hollywood films. You have to the watch "The Incredibles 2," which is every bit as good, or even better, than this film.
The film is also a riff on the Marvel comics series "The Fantastic Four," where Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic who is the one who stretches, eventually marries Susan Storm, The Invisible Girl, who eventually also generates force fields. It's too bad that Marvel has had an issue with coming up with a film based on the "The Fantastic Four" that is as good as "The Incredibles." Note that the bad guy right at the end of this film, the Underminer. is vaguely based on the Mole Man, the first villain The Fantastic Four fights against.
P.S. I worked for a publisher of reference books for libraries for almost 30 years. One of my colleagues in another department had a son after years of trying to get pregnant. She used to play opera music when she was pregnant so that the unborn child would be born with a love for her favorite form of classical music. I wonder if your child will be born with a love of movies.

There is a chance the music you performed is actually from a James Bond movie called On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The Incredible's music is inspired and directly a reference of that James Bond movie.

I like that you realized how Bob went overboard smashing his 'boss' through the wall like that. Usually reactors practically cheer at that total overkill.

This movie is one of Pixar's most mature movies, and I'm here for it. I mean they immediately set the tone in the opening with an attempted suicide. Then you start laying out the other things in it:
Actually realistic lawsuits (one of the papers covers a super with x ray vision, implicating him as a peeping tom)
Government suppression of a race (the supers)
genocide (yet again, of the supers)
    midlife crisis
ptsd (Edna recalls every single date of a super killed by her designs and is therefore staunchly against capes)
    showcasing marriage troubles
    implied cheating
    torture
onscreen death of multiple heroes, and the corpse of Gazerbeam
theres probably more im missing, but i think ive made my point. I love when Pixar isnt afraid to get heavy

The sequel is amazingly well written , just as this one was. You'll love it. Also Helen gets more of a spotlight so we also get to see a different dynamic to the super heroing.

    • @chipgw
      @chipgw Před rokem

Gonna have to hard disagree with you there. Incredibles 2 was many things but "amazingly well-written" is about the farthest thing from it IMO. They systematically undid literally every single character arc and plot point from the first movie to do them again but worse, the twist villain was obvious, generic, and clearly corporate-mandated trend-chasing, and any social commentary the movie makes is only surface-deep.

  • @BeeWhistler

This is one of my favorite mom movies. Helen is my freaking hero, not just because she’s a superhero, but because she’s about the coolest mom ever depicted. Considering how people sometimes dump on us for having kids, or how kids roll their eyes at moms (and so do I sometimes… I just never did blend in with the mom groups), we need some cool mom representation, man.
So some other movies… not sure what you’ve seen so I’ll toss out some of the best ones I know of.
    A Bug’s Life (very under-appreciated)
    Incredibles 2
    Lilo and Stitch
    The Emperor’s New Groove
    Mulan
    Coco
    The Book of Life
    Encanto
    Moana
    Tarzan
    Hercules (Disney)
    Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron
    The Secret of Kells
    The Song of the Sea
    My Neighbor Totoro
    Ponyo
    Howl’s Moving Castle
    Castle in the Sky
    Pooh’s Heffalump Movie
    CinderElmo
The Three Musketeers (Mickey Mouse version, trust me)
Curious George (the Will Ferrell film)
The Nightmare Before Christmas (for Halloween)
    Klaus (for Christmas)
Important note: I find all of these entertaining, even as an adult, but some might not be suitable for really small kids. I still have guilt for letting my 6-year-old watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit? because a scene early in it upset her so much she ran wailing to her room. I first saw it when I was 16 and never even thought about that scene until it was too late. Yeah… she thought the squeaky shoe was so cute and then, well… she’s never seen the rest of the film and she’s 25 now…

One of the best decisions the Director made is having the family’s superpowers reflect their roles in a family. Dad- strong. Mom- stretched in many directions. Son- full of energy. Daughter- wants to be invisible. So well done 👏🏾!
PS. And Jack-Jack is a baby which is full of potential and not just 1 thing yet… 😊

😎👍 Elastigirl was deliberately designed to look exactly like the actress that voiced her, Holly Hunter. She's been in all sorts of great movies that you'd also enjoy ("Raising Arizona," "Broadcast News" "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" etc). Another animated film which features a lot of characters that were specifically designed to look like the actors providing the voices is "Antz" (1998). 🐜 It's very easy to pick out Jennifer Lopez, Sylvester Stallone, Danny Glover and Christopher Walken among the cast.

When Frozone and Mr. Incredible were in the jewelry store after the burning building collapse and the officer is pointing his gun at him and says, "Freeze", Frozone says, "I'm just getting a drink", I think is somewhat of a callback to Samuel L. Jackson's character (Zeus) in Die Hard 3 where he is in the New York subway at the payphone area and the Subway Police officer is pointing his gun at him telling him to get his hands up. Jackson's character hears the phone ringing and tells the officer that he has to answer the phone. The officer yells at him again to get his hands up and Jackson's character says, "If you have to shoot me then you shoot me, but I have to answer this phone!"
