Have been using s95d for one month. Rtings is right, direct huge lights will raise blacks. But in 99% of use cases matte is far superior for viewing in the daytime. Unless you have a window right in front of the tv, matte looks better, because there are no visible reflections and artifacts. My TV is exceptional in the day and at night.
Glossy is better if u have dim lights or blinds. IMHO people should buy s90d if they want to watch in dim light. For day+night s95d is better, due to the anti-glare finish.
In daytime setting, during dim scenes, I could see myself on my previous TV along with the visuals. No such problems here.

Btw. the issues with black outs on HDMI are an issue since many years. I had it with an Q95T! Like many other users as well. I don´t think it has to do with bandwith and more with the hardware issues of the chipsets itself or it is a glitch / bug where it switches between RGB spaces.
Why? For whatever reason only using RGB Limited / Black Level Low on both, TV & device, was a solution. I personally can´t trust One Conect Box models, because it is a lottery and in my country chance is high that you get black outs. Maybe different produce lines vary here.

I´ve seen the TV in store and i not really like the low contrast look with lights on the screen. On the other hand it looks clean and reflections are really muted. But colors and contrast look more flat compared to glossy screens. I think it is really if you have a bright room with some lights and then you get OLED black in a dark room. But i heard that you see some type of glow around objects because of the finish even in a dark room. But i can´t say anything about it.

I really love this TV. For me the main reason I considered it was the anit glare matte screen. It works amazingly well. Our tv was almost impossible to use during daylight hours and we had a lot of glare from lights in the evening as well. No problems at all daytime watching and we basically have all windows opposite the tv. We had recently taken down all of our blinds during a window and sliding door replacement and we decided not to put the blinds back up because the room looked so much better without them. When we had the blinds down during the day it helped but without them like I said nearly impossible to watch enjoyably. No issue at all though now with the new tv. From others comments it sounds like they might be missing the mark on some expected features but none of those things were important to me. The display looks amazing and the anti glare works way beyond what I expected I was hoping for a decrease but honestly it is 95% gone in my viewing environment.

Hi. I have been using your provided information long time and been greatly thankful. I love the work you do. But i have a question what i have been wondering for while... How much does light sources cause OLED TV´s and monitors lose in contrast. I have heard that even from different sources that its something what OLED´s do and your said same thing with matte coating part. More precise reflections part of review. Where samsung coating eats away contrast for removing some reflections. Is this purely coating part of issue or does all tv´s/monitors suffer this in some aspects. Like i write clear questions in line.
Do all TV´s or monitors tech like OLED, QLED, LCD lose contrast from light sources?
Do Light sources all tech equally or its more harmful other tech´s or coatings like Matte vs glossy or LCD vs OLED etc.
How much does TV or PC monitor lose contrast from light sources hitting screen?
Can this be measured or even speculated scientifically?
Final question is this. If all this is true or be doable. Should this be one form of measurement you do in reviews.
Again. I love the work you do. Hope you could understand what i wrote.... English language is not my native language...

Perhaps there's an explanation other than "we want your TV to break so you'll buy another one," but I wonder why they don't incorporate some semiconductor metal plates like in many smartphone coolers. The fan is silent, and it would work great underneath or behind. The same goes for laptops. Where I live, it feels like 39°C this year, and generally around 31.9°C. It's very annoying to have to keep the environment cooled all the time or use a specific fan for the screen (my electricity bill appreciates not using the AC for 16 hours a day in more than one room).

I don't think that's the reason. Based on my experience, Dolby Vision is fantastic if you're after a pure, cinematic experience. Many thanks for your in-depth review. At current prices, the Samsung S90D costs $600 less than the S95D, and the RTINGS side-by-side comparison of these two models shows that they have nearly identical performance (In fact, RTINGS ranks the S90D slightly BETTER for "Mixed Usage", and I agree with that assessment). If I were buying a Samsung QD-OLED this year I'd choose the S90D and save myself some cash. If I were taking *EVERYTHING* into account, and there were no extenuating circumstances, my choices this year would be between a new LG G4 and a discounted clearance Samsung S90C.
However, I kinda need the S95 because of panel thickness (I need as close to 3/16” thick as possible) panel height on the 65” model (I need as close as possible to 32.0” high), and compatibility with Spectrum streaming TV app.
So it’s really down to current S95D (better newer gen 3 panel) and s95C (cheaper price and glossy screen, but older tech panel with less brightness)…
The S90 series has a SUPER thin 3/16” panel, but it’s useless because the center bottom of the panel has that 1.5” thick box attached that goes all the way to the bottom of the TV! If that were just raised 3” off the bottom at least the TV could be mounted in a small hole in the wall (which I already have)! The S95 is 3/8” thick but no clunky box at the back to screw things up.
LG W-OLED tech has much thicker panels…
