    I visited Raleigh for the first time back in 2019 and loved it. One of my brothers moved there for college and decided to stay after graduating. Raleigh/NC is at the top of my list of potential places to move. I currently live in Philly (raised here) and want a more suburban/less stressful environment.

    I love Raleigh and everything about it, the food, people, parks, festivals, markets. The only thing I don't like is there are no late night food choices. Sometimes I want to eat after 10pm but not in a restaurant. I wish there were more quick take out spots and soulfood restaurants.

    This is very reassuring. Initially I was thinking of Michigan for the low home prices and I can appreciate cold weather. However, after more research I don't want to be stuck in a less diverse, less educated, potentially racist, super snowy town with high property taxes. Raleigh really seems to tick all of the boxes for my family. I promise I won't bring any rude ways down there, won't honk or any of that lol ~Love from San Francisco~

    You are probably not a Gardner , but is it possible to make avid about what can you grow in NC VS. Cali I looked up the planting zones of course but still there are so many options for example some say you can plant figs and citrus some say no you really can’t with out green house .😳
    Thank you , your videos are awesome and you remind me of Monica on the show friends and Demi Moore you are both in one I hope it’s a compliment because you are funny and awesome.

    • @EllenPitts
      @EllenPitts  Před 2 lety

      I actually DO garden but unfortunately don't know anything about gardening in California. So I couldn't do a video comparing them. I will say 100% definitely that figs grow extremely well here... You can do absolutely nothing to them and they will produce fruit every single year. But for citrus, I think it gets too cold here. I know a few people who have Meyer lemons in pots. They may do okay if the location is protected. And you can always bring it inside if we get a very cold snap, which we do at times. I have always had a dream of having a glass conservatory full of citrus trees. :) And Monica....hahaha. I probably act a little bit like her as well. :-)

    I've lived here for 55 years and I love it. Best thing about Raleigh ... Krispy Kreme on the corner of Peace St & N. Person St when the "HOT DOUGHNUTS NOW" sign is lit up.
    There's not much not to like about Raleigh, but the biggest problem I see is the lack of sidewalks connecting the central core residential neighborhoods to the neighborhoods slightly farther out. Try walking from Oakwood to the new "Midtown" shopping district on Wake Forest Rd ... or anywhere north out along Capitol Blvd.
    Raleigh has a great system of Green-ways, but there are significant gaps getting to them due to the lack of sidewalks along some major thoroughfares. The city could be a much more walkable place than it already is.

    • @EllenPitts
      @EllenPitts  Před 2 lety

      Yeah walkability isn't the best in Raleigh for sure. I think Cary has done a much better job of really connecting everything than Raleigh. There aren't many places where you can't pick up either a sidewalk or greenway and get to your destination in Cary.

    • @EllenPitts
      @EllenPitts  Před 2 lety

      I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos! So, to answer your question, I think it really depends. This is a very "purple" area. There isn't really anywhere here that you will live, where you won't be likely to have conservatives as neighbors. But you will also have liberals as neighbors. So if that is acceptable to you, then you will be fine. There is no shortage of liberals in Raleigh. But if you really want to live in a place that is like 90% liberal, this is probably not the place for you.
      Also, having said all that, the further away from the city you get, the bigger the percentage of conservatives. So if you do move, I would say try to live in Raleigh proper.... or even better, Durham. Here is a video I did about that. czcams.com/video/fEbCHRXlG6U/video.html
      I think the biggest thing about this area is that we all get along well. You don't see a lot of political fighting like you do in other places. The culture of the south is to be accepting of others, and here that means accepting even of people with different politics.

    One question I have about the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area is ... Does the city have a major theme park like Charlotte's Carowinds or Atlanta's Six Flags or Kings Dominion in Virginia? If not will Raleigh get a theme park in the future?

    • @EllenPitts
      @EllenPitts  Před 2 lety

      That’s a great question! We do not have a theme park here. There was someone trying to create a small theme park a few years ago but couldn’t get the investor funds for it. I’ll bet it would be easier now as much as Raleigh has gotten on the map for tech companies.
      One thing we do have in the raleigh area (about an hour east) is one of the best zoos in the country…probably the world. It’s a natural habitat zoo… no cages and huge habitats for the animals. They are so big that it feels like they’re in the wild. A must do for sure!!
