  • This is the second part of my RC Ejection Seat series. Thanks to Martin Baker for sponsoring this video. Click here to learn more about Martin baker apprenticeships: www.martin-baker.com/
I've already started to develop an ejection seat powered by solid fuel model rocket motors, but now it's time to stick it into an RC plane (a very large RC plane too!). Will Action Man survive? Watch to find out!

I normally skip sponsored segments, but I highly approve of this one. I did an engineering apprenticeship over a decade ago and I can't recommend it highly enough! You get paid to learn and don't have any debt at the end of it, plus the added benefit of a qualification and a ladder to progress through a company. Also, most companies will put you with different departments for a time so you can decide whilst doing a particular job if you want to carry on with it afterwards as a career.

Although the rockets have a "cool" factor, I think I'd go for a compression spring under the seat (held in compression with a catch that can be retracted via servo). Solves a lot of problems at once (like thermal protection, latency in the rockets getting up to max thrust, imbalance in thrust between the rocket motors, the need for so _many_ rocket motors)

Can’t wait to see the flight test. Have you considered the change in CG when the pilot ejects? Maybe put some movable weight that moves with a servo as soon at the pilot is ejected? Also maybe consider thin aluminum sheeting for the cockpit for heat shielding.
