My wife and I made out to this song (and all the slow songs on The River) often back in the 1980s. Now I can't separate the two.
This song is a journey to another dimension, we play it yesterday at my dad’s funeral and the atmosphere was something magic and special. Much love, heart and soul❤

Thank goodness for CZcams or this performance would have been experienced by those in Tempe that night, and gone forever. (Although it's professionally filmed so maybe it is an extremely rare video that's available somewhere of Bruce at his best - forty years ago.)
@@CPSJSMSUUMUGA I saw him a couple nights later at the LA Sports Arena for the first time. The four of us went and this was my cousin Carol's favorite part of the show and mentioned it for years and years. Carol passed away Tuesday. Loved her very much.

I'd drive all night too to know the place Bruce goes to in this song. It's a song sung at the soul level delivered with such incredible passion and love. My heart felt every word, every note. Is anyone ever the same after hearing a performance like this? I truly doubt it. Thank you Bruce and E Street Band.
I wrote earlier that the Who had 3 masterpieces and Bruce only 2. I was wrong, you have The River, Darkness on the Edge of Town, and Born to Run. He created the 3 masterpieces because he is The Boss and always will be to the US fans worldwide! Here is a big salute to you Bruce, I have been a huge fan of yours since the 1970s even when there were 8 tracks out.
Love the song, Love the band. This whole Temple The River Tour is awesome. Haven't come across a bad clip! Had the privilege of meeting The Big Man after he came over to our table . He owned the Nightclub in Red Bank New Jersey for a while, and Dave Mason came over and sat with us between sets because we had bought him a drink I'll never forget it . Truly is a Big Man! First listened to this 30 years ago. Always loved it. One of the best songs ever written. "when I lost you I lost myself" lost my beloved girlfriend 4 months ago. She had mental health problems and just went out one day and completely disappeared, never came back. Police looking for her, everything. The searing pain of the last 4 months has been indescribable, beyond words. Hellish. Listening to that rapturous sax solo tears come once again, the dam bursts. Every single day I'm waiting for her to come home, and will wait forever. Awaiting the miracle. Heart and soul. The very worst thing in the world to lose someone you love. You never get over it. As it says in the song, when I lost you I lost myself. Truer words never spoken.

You can only imagine the thoughts that go through my mind. It is 8 months this coming weekend since nuala disappeared. Like living in a nightmarish limbo world. Still looking out the window for her. Also lost the few friends I thought I had. Their response, just go out and meet someone else, she was mad, and you're better of without her. Totally unbelievable. Told them to get lost. I'm 50 years of age and every now and again feel like ending it all. One thing prevents me. The miracle that she may return one day. And there's a tiny voice in my head saying she will come back. Phew , what a place to be. Indescribable. The experience has put me on a different level whereby I can no longer listen to people waffling on. Rather be alone. Noel

I heard a Lotta Bruce on philly radio stations in the 80s...but never heard this one until I saw Reigh over me...powerful song...and Adam knew how to make it even more powerful. Saw it live in '16. Favorite song of the show. This and " Fade Away"

I somehow sort of missed "Drive All Night" in 1980, when "The River" came out. I didn't "get it" until seeing Bruce perform it live in 2014 in Atlanta. This intense love song somehow didn't seem like a Springsteen song until experiencing it live. When I did, whoa. Just incredible.
