That’s one of the best crossover/small AWD traversing Andre’s Pit. Shows how Ford finally realized the potential of the Escape platform by designing a proper small 4-wheeler.

It's articulation make it a brick on wheels. It's fun for sure, but I wouldn't do anything serious with it for fear of almost certain body damage. New cars are far too expensive to be spending thousands of dollars with every little mishap and dent.
It would be a fun overlander and it is quite capable for a unibody awd small SUV. It would be cool to see how it does against something like a Toyota Sequoia with a rear locker. The big heavy beats with true 4L and a true locker vs the much lighter, more nimble tech driven off-roader. We already know it is as capable as the standard Subaru or any other light duty off-roader, test it's limitations against something more capable, but not too capable.
I'll bet that little Sport could hold it's own against some better compitition.

I can absolutely vouch for the Bronco Sport. I lived off road when I bought my 2021 Big Bend. 1.3 mile dirt, mud, and rocky road and many times had to drive through raw forest to get home. If trees came down and blocked the way, that meant a drive over a large lot of two farm fields and a trip at the end of a road that doubled as a retaining pond wall. So yeah, I can personally vouch for this vehicle. It wasn’t just an off road test for me. It was how I actually lived.

This is more vehicle than 99% of the "offroad" population actually needs. I fell into the trap of buying a jeep wrangler because I thought I was going to offroad. The only offroading I did was driving on a some-what rutted road to get to a camp ground, and the ride in that thing was absolutely horrible. This is all a person really needs if you aren't into extreme offroading. Good vid.

With most side by sides at 1500+ lbs you are looking at an aluminum trailer in order to keep legal. The other problem is the price. Bronco Sport Badlands with tow package starts at almost $41K. Ford Maverick XLT 2.0 AWD with 4K tow and FX4 starts at $30k. Thats a considerable difference and the Badlands is the cheapest package that gets you the 2.0 in the Bronco Sport. The Ford Bronco Sport has a slight taste of off-road, but it’s not meant for extremely hard trails, so you can take it for a ride, but don’t be getting ideas to zoom up a cliff and expecting it to be in tact.

Love the comments saying "it'll go like 80% of where you want it to go". Unless you're unbelievably rich, I'd wager that the 20% of trails it can't handle wouldn't be done with an owner of a full sized bronco either. If you've fully reached the bounds of the sport and it's impassable, you're likely in some really really heavy stuff with a good chance you're gonna damage your full sized bronco while plowing through it. Which most people who dropped around 60k on a rig won't even consider.
