Sonic is essentially fucked because of the villains he's up against.
Chaos can use the negative energy from the Chaos Emeralds to go Perfect and Shadow can then drain part of the energy to go Super, then Metal Sonic can supercharge himself with the remaining energy. Zavok can then pummel Sonic into the ground with his strength and technokinesis, then Metal Sonic can copy each Hero's abilities and go Overlord.
Sonic is legitimately FUCKED.

Hello SuperMarioT, liked the video and I am glad that someone has talked about the game`s plot to this.
I know players do not play sonic games for plot but this one really sparks my intrest infact would it sound wrong if I did say i love the storys to the sonic games than the gameplay?
Well anyway I like the idea that Eggman`s power with Infanite could not just mean time travel but also possibly interdimensinol travel I.E Alternate Universes reminds me abit of Spider Wars from Spiderman for some reason. It would explane why Clasic Sonic is with Mordern Sonic in the future even though really if he was draged out of the past wouldn`t there be no mordern Sonic since it is him older in the future.
The villan ensamble of Shadow, Choas, Metal Sonic and Zavok could also posibly hale from Alternate Universes/Timelines as well.
I really can not wait when this game comes out it is going to be super epic.

There are plenty of players who play Sonic for plot.
I really hope shadow plays a good role in this and not just evil. He's grown so much in the series. Also what if shadow goes super in the game? That'd be epic.
Miles Leonhardt wouldn't it be fun to have a boss fight against Super Shadow? Now that's something we haven't tried yet. Get rings before him so the form exhausts so you can actually land a hit on him.
One idea I've had is that the rest of Team Dark are being held to ensure Shadow fights against Sonic.
I think the reason why Shadow is on the villains side is that maybe Infinite told and proved him that he can bring back Maria and the only way he will is if he joins them.
Caden Does Gaming well, I could see the logic behind that being why Shadow is evil again. Do you really think that given the chance he wouldn't do something like this to bring back his best friend?
Sets pulling a role like this would be impressive
Shadow is always a anti-hero he fights for his own reasons, Chaos probably time travel or a motive to unsealed from the Master Emerald maybe Tikal will appear!, Metal Sonic is constantly rebuilt/revived to kill Sonic and co to be the "real Sonic" plus rebel to his own creator Eggman occasionally, with Zavok it wasn't implied he died just fell into the lava so Bowser logic he likely survived to get revenge and Infinite is likely the Major Antagonist of the game for the 3 Heroes to defeat outside Eggman himself or could be the other way for once.

"What Is Sonic Forces' Story?" - still wondering to this day
the thing with chaos though is that he isn't technically evil. He's just pissed off, but he was supposedly calmed by super sonic in adventure, so he shouldn't be enraged still. Also the fact that he's back likely means the master emerald got shattered again and angel island fell from the sky again. As for the whole villain team up, knowing eggman's luck it's become a 3 sided war because when has eggman ever been able to successfully control a dark power outside of generations. He couldn't control Chaos, Metal Sonic, Dark Gaia, The deadly six, Iblis, and hell he got played by shadow. I doubt a team of characters he hasn't been able to control before would work out well.
Chaos and Tikal went to Heaven at the end of that game though. You see them rise into the sky.
Can't wait for the plot twist with Mephiles the Dark to come out of nowhere and becomes the true villain of the game.

The true ending reveals that Ganon hijacked the plot though. It was Ganondorf all along. It's always Ganondorf.

this is honestly an interesting take for a story for a sonic game. i can't wait to see more details about it! the support cast provides some nice dialogue in the levels. I really want to see more of this in the future!
call me optimistic but really, when it comes to games, story is my top reason to why I'd love and play the game. 😎

I love a more serious Sonic story line like for example: Adventure 1, 2 and Unleashed.
My theory on Sonic Forces story-line is that eggman has came across a new power which is Infinite or who know's maybe eggman created him just like Metal Sonic. Infinite is a being that controls time, space and other dimension which explains why Classic Sonic came from another dimension because of infinities power. Shadow is has joined the dark side because of his own desires or maybe is a spy and is trying to destroy egg-man's plan. Metal Sonic wants to destroy Sonic once and for all and wants to surpass him because of his own ego. Zavok is back because he wants revenge on Sonic and eggman, the previous events of Lost world. Chaos is back from Adventure 1 maybe infinite killed the choa's and pins the blame on Sonic also Tikal may return as well.
If they are bringing all these characters they better bring up the events from SA1 and SA2.

If Classic Sonic is from another dimension, couldn't it also be that this Shadow, Chaos, Metal Sonic and Zavok are from alternate dimensions as well. It could explain why Shadow and Chaos are on the dark side again. Like that they come from a timeline were Chaos wasn't shown any Chao still living and one where Shadow didn't learn what Maria really wanted for him?

I'm really confused on how lots of sonic fans always want Eggman to be the final boss. I personally love seeing other final bosses because they are a good surprise and offer more interesting gameplay. Have they even seen the Mario series? In one of the gameplay demos for Forces, Webber mentions that Chao are in the game. So what if Eggman is using Chao as a form of blackmail to make Chaos assist him?

Shadow as a double agent makes a lot more sense actually! It seems like there are some signs, considering we haven't yet heard from Rouge & Omega yet (they could be in hiding).
Now that I think about it, all four of them have been manipulated by Eggman at some point, being a power to help him gain what he wanted.
He used Chaos to collect the Chaos Emeralds
He awaked Shadow to help take control of the planet
He built Metal to kill Sonic
And he Manipulated the Deadly Six to do his bidding until they turned on him.
So maybe that's how the four are connected.

You remember how Classic Sonic was brought to the in-game world through the same power Eggman used to rule the world? You remember how he "came from another dimension"?
Yeah this game's story is probably basically gonna be "Eggman used a mysterious new power to bring all kinds of evil from different dimensions to Sonic's world to take it over." So these versions of Shadow, Chaos, Zavoc and Metal Sonic are probably from other dimensions. (Except maybe Metal Sonic)

About Chaos and the possible reason for being evil because a chao was hurt. Webber said in PrE3 show of Sonic Forces that Chao Garden won't appear, but there are Chao references. Maybe that what he meant?

I like to think since classic sonic is back maybe the shadow and chaos are the ones from before the endings of sa1 and sa2, when they were the antagonists

I look at the villains and I see rivals from all the different points in time. Chaos from Adventure, Shadow from Adventure 2, Metal Sonic from CD and Heroes and Zavok from Lost World. Seeming as Chaos and Shadow are good and Zavok is maybe dead, it's safe to say that time travel or alternate dimensions will be the reason they're helping Eggman.
Unless Eggman found another conch to control the Zeti, Shadow is the new Knuckles from Sonic X and Chao are extinct.
Sonic Forces is basically the ultimate fan service. They've brought back Chaos, made a new villain with a Mephilis kinda vibe and allowed you to make your OC. Something inside of me is telling me that IGN will give this a bad score because of it, but I don't care.
Also, I cant help but think that the CUSTOM CHARACTER is being a double agent for eggman.

Maybe Infinite talks Shadow and Chaos into aiding Eggman in some way, thus sort of manipulating their minds into thinking that Sonic and anyone who aids him is standing in their way somehow.

And yes, i know i didn't use the exact wording. I know he might have said "Sonic Adventure" by accident, but it's still kinda funny to me.
Here's a theory, Infinite is a being that, like the Time Eater, can see and travel between different times. He can transfer the matter between two time periods, changing the mindset, and form to that of their original time period. If this is the case, Chaos would be from the SA time, and having the mindset from then, Shadow, from SA2, Metal, from before or during Heroes, and Zavok, from either the early point of LW, where Eggman regained the Conch (either offscreen or Infinite's ability.) This can also explain Classic's return to Modern's side, as if Eggman tried to finish off classic in the past, (IE Egg dragoon,) he could, and would most likely follow behind him to the present.
I'm theorizing that Eggman was trying to time travel and that's when he met Infinite who went to different timelines when these characters succeeded in beating Sonic. He went to a timeline where the Deadly Six stayed mine controlled and beat Sonic to get Zavok, a timeline where Sonic lost to Metal Sonic in CD, a timeline where Shadow chose to be evil in Shadow the Hedgehog, and a timeline where Chaos was still on Eggman's side. If this wasn't the case then this would make no since especially for Shadow and Chaos. Like where would Rouge and Tikal be?
Also this could give us a chance to see the chaos emeralds being used by both sides at the same time. Super Sonic, Super Classic Sonic, possibly Super Custom Character, and maybe Super Silver vs the Deadly Six, Metal Overlord, Perfect Chaos, Infinite, and Super Shadow.

The smartest thing about having all these villains is that they provide a connection to every generation of player. For newer players, they connect with Infinite and Zavok. For mid-2000's players, there's Chaos and Shadow. And Eggman and Metal Sonic are there for everyone. It's a great marketing tactic to make sure no one is left feeling "Well, I don't care about any of these villains" during the story.
I wonder if tikal is on team sonic helping to calm chaos down again just like in sonic adventure 1
I feel like they are all different versions of the enemies. Since Classic Sonic is different from Generations it may apply to Metal, Chaos, Zavok, and Shadow. If you get my point.
Idk why, but I feel like we should be seeing Mighty,Ray and Gmerl for the resistance, maybe even Heavy and Bomb? I could see Team Hooligan return in a small scale?
I kind of thought that this Shadow was the Shadow from SA2, since that was in the past where he was evil; from there I thought that the villains here were brought from the past, hence Classic's return. But I'm cool the double agent Shadow!

I'm a bit disappointed that there are only 4 returning villains. There's still Jonny and I guess whisker (Sonic Rush Adventure), Mephiles (Sonic 06), Imperator ix (Sonic Chronicles),Eggman Nega (Sonic Rush), King Arthur and possibly Merlina(Sonic and the Black knight), Errazor djinn (Sonic and the Secret Rings), Emerel (Sonic Battle), and Gemerel (Sonic Advance 3). It also would've been hella cool if they put in ppl like Dark Oak (Sonic X), Nazo (fan made character from Chakra X), Seelkadoom (Sonic rpg), and fleetway Sonic and/ or dark sonic
I would tell you my idea for a story, but I don't feel like writing an exam.
Something could have happened to Tikal as well. Remember that she stayed with him, and is part of balancing him out. He intends to protect the chao, but he is still a god of destruction.
If you pause when Infinite is summoning their squares, you can see a yellow square in the corner..
Here's my idea:
-Shadow is working for himself under Infinite as Infinite has the power to warp time and space and can bring Shadow back to Space Colony Ark and Maria.
-Metal Sonic works for Eggman and by extension Infinite.
-Zavok is being manipulated by Infinite via the power of the conch from SLW, that or Infinite threatened to destroy Lost Hex unless the Deadly Six worked with him.
-Chaos feeds off the negative power of the Chaos Emeralds and Infinite probably has the emeralds.
