I watched this game live. It was phenomenal. Very quick paced with not a lot of stoppage. NE should feel very proud of themselves. As for people moaning about the camera equipment, I watch an enormous amount of Rugby League and Union. The MLR teams are a single entity like MLS which tries to share the cost and support each other. Owning a Rugby team in England or NZ is very different than here. We have no track record and are building everything from scratch. These owners are putting their assess on the line financially. And thank you for that!!!! There are no golden shitters for some in the rah rah crowd.

I figured they'd follow the MLS model, but anyways looking forward to obvious improvements overtime in addition to a proper TV camera.

2:28 well-done to the ref, if this was any other competition in (URC, SR. ECC) that would've been 10min of wasting time with the TMO to come to the same conclusion..

Pretty well handled by the ref. No fuss, straight yellows. I would have liked to see the 7, that started it all, get card though.

If “Major League Rugby” really want to compete with other pro sports, they need to buy at least one decent camera, hire competent videographers and commentators, and have a chat with all of the players about professional behaviour. So far, most of these matches have been worse than high school. Too many stupidity cards, lack of basic rugby skills, and failure to market the games beyond the existing rugby community. These YT “highlights” won’t bring new fans to the sport, and will turn off experienced rugby supporters. Over the longer term, develop some dedicated rugby pitches so the multi-sport markings can be eliminated. Too confusing for players and spectators alike. The officials must be distracted by all the colourful squiggles.

It's a country that has a huge gap in interest... what you are saying does not happen overnight. And the good camera equipment etc. requires a lot of money. I think they are doing absolutely great considering where they were a couple of years ago. They know exactly how to grow the sport in their own country, they know what they lack, they know what they need (if you bothered listening to their podcasts, interviews and documentaries, you would know). They don't need an armchair consultant to point it out.

Nigga relax the league started a couple years ago ofc there is growth to be done but it doesn’t happen as fast as anyone likes.

Agreed. With the world cup coming the first thing is to build a solid base, with each team looking to to develop a rugby specific facility with 5-10k seats (expandable to 15-25k ideally).
Then some money needs to put into production. The product is good, but I find watching it can sometimes be laborious.

@@WinterWeaver, luckily I don’t need a shit for brains commenter’s permission. The yanks have plenty of money, and there is used camera equipment for sale everywhere. Anything would be better than the old iPhone on a selfie stick that they used for this match. They’ve been playing rugby in the US for over a century, they should be farther ahead than they are, so clearly they have no idea what they are doing if this is the best they can do. Podcasts, interviews and documentaries mean nothing if they can’t build a fan and sponsor base. Punch ups, after the fact shoving, and weak rugby skills won’t build interest unless it is among the hooligan crowd. Maybe that’s why you think this is “great” “professional” rugby. It isn’t.
