    There's going to be a lot hate towards that e-bike, but its not aimed at recreational cyclists. Its aimed squarely at those who want to get to and from work without using the car, having it on cycle to work, and slightly improving their fitness. Well done Carrera, I hope it does well.

      Joe Burnell: Don't entirely agree - I can see a lot of interest from a certain grouping of recreational cyclists, guys like me, for instance. I am still riding and enjoying my road bike at eighty-nine years old (Lycra and all), but I'm beginning to find that I am having to look more and more for the less hilly terrains, and this is becoming rather limiting as I'm having to more or less stick to the same routes all the time. I wouldn't be seen dead on most of the e-bikes out there, but this seems a much more appealing option which could open things up again for me, so I might possibly think about one of these in a year or so.

      @@edwardkerrigan5356 my dad just bought one, a Ribble Endutance e, and he loves it. No problems with hills now and it doesnt hold him back on the flats. I'd say go for it if you can. I still think this Carrera is more for the commuter rather than the recreational cyclist, but you get what you can A - afford, and B - fits your needs. E-bikes are wonderful things, and if they keep people riding then you can't knock em.

    • @edwardkerrigan5356
      @edwardkerrigan5356 Před 3 lety +1

      @@jonburnell532 Thanks for that - my reasoning is that this would still give the 'road bike' look and feel at a reasonable price - I certainly couldn't afford more, regrettably.

    I actually have that e-bike (carerra) and I have to say it’s very good. Has a good range from full charge, rides surprisingly smooth given its a road bike without suspension and it definitely gets you from a to b! I would say that the tires that come with the bike aren’t the best in terms of grip and puncture resistance (kenda) - however, I would recommend upgrading them to Schwalbe Marathon Plus. I’ve done this as well as a few other moderately priced upgrades and it runs like a dream! Not bad for £999

      @@namvu8508 sorry man old account got deleted. All UK EBikes can only go 15.5mph before the motor cuts out but it gains speed well off its own weight so it's easy to pass 20mph up to near 30mph

    Power meter link makes that a great turbo, 3% starts to sound like it’s not worth the money saved, but I’d want my outside power meter to be the judge anyway. They did that right.

    Dropped seatstays with a carbon fibre frame may be good but with aluminium surely that means more movement which will add to the fatigue rate. The whole point of having the seatstays line up with the top tube is rigidity. Do you really need to add extra comfort on this bike as it looks like it will take pretty thick tyres and more rigid stays adds to power delivery. Looks a very good bike though a great commuting workhorse. I assume the lump of metal by the bottom bracket hides the control box/circuit. The suntour motor hub is likely far more reliable than your typical mid-mount motor, far less moving parts. Lightweight e-bikes tend to have small capacity batteries and weak motors and a limited lifespan this definitely seems the far better option for both initial costs and long term costs. Carrera's range of e-bikes around £1000 seems quite extensive now with e-bikes of every type. Another great option is the Subway for a more upright riding position perhaps better for urban commuting. Carrera definitely seem to have a product for everybody at entry level pricing.
    It's really hard to find a competitor for this Carrera bike. A quick search shows a Raleigh Mustang at £1750 but that is discounted from £2800 and about the same weight 18.5kg. That actually has a CF fork. I think I actually prefer the Carrera. There is an Orbea at about £1,900 but much smaller capacity battery as its integrated in the frame which will be awkward charging too. I guess another option is a road bike of your choice plus something like a swytch kit or other e-bike kit suitable for 700c wheels. The Carrera definitely seems to be the cheapest option if you can get it on a cycle2work scheme.

    I doubt the Zumo has a Powermeter, the higher end Elites estimate power, so I'd assume this one is the same...not necessarily a bad thing but not a built-in power meter...

    I had a C17. That saddle not lasted a lifetime, It lasted 1!!! year, it is not a cheap saddle, so I was really sad about this. It was not that comfortable unfortunately. Now I use 10 and 20 years old saddles. Almost any saddle can outlast this Brooks product. Or at least the previous version. But if they made it more robust, and durable, maybe I will buy another one.

    My first C-17 saddle broke in half when I was on a downhill mountain ride and it put the rails in my ass. I thought I would never own another Brooks. Until they sent me a brand new Brook C-17 saddle which is now lasted two years without putting those rails in my ass so yay Brooks.

    I have a Bryton rider 15, which is adequate for my needs. The problem lies with the Bryton Ap for uploading. Which for no reason will lose its authorisation to Strava, happened twice so far???. In one month of use. Also trying to get your ride of the .fit file on the head unit is not guaranteed. Also had twice that the file is misformed on trying to add into Strava. Frustrating somewhat. Strava also say they know Bryton have a problem with the file format, not a good look. Bryton have a reasonable product spoilt by poor support. Have emailed Bryton on this. No reply as yet. Anyhow buyer beware to expect problems with the uploading Ap.
