I hope next they make a GoPro sized camera called the Chestnut
And then a mirrorless cam called the Coconut
I was very happy with the Caddx Orca in the past, and this seems like a very nice upgrade. The plug attachment is pretty nice, makes it very convenient, even with an external power plug. I really like the GoPro session size, its small and tough. 4k 60FPS plus the ND filter design is pretty cool. The side by side video looks pretty good, Thank you for another great review Albert!!! A great budget friendly FPV Action cam option, woot woot!!
man gryoflow is just soooo clean. i even use it for a lot of RC videos where i've recorded slow-mo but part of the video i might not want in slow mo is just so stable.
Got this cam few weeks ago. It’s super good. There’s some cons i wanted to share.
- it doesn’t have flat profile. (Which I really really reallyyyy hope there will be a firmware update soon!)
- the stabilisation are not that “really” great compared to session 5
- there’s no lens profile for 1080p60/30 yet in GyroFlow (whoever created one please share it!)
- the cover casing where the usb & cards are very tough to open!
However there are some pros that I like.
- it fits a session TPU print
- cheap price
- great video

Great review of a reasonably priced okay budget action camera. Hopefully Caddx adds some of the fixes/features you mentioned in future firmware. For the time being I'll stick with the Runcam Orange, lighter and less expensive budget friendly camera. 👍🎥🤓

It captures a ton of detail, but as you mentioned, the colors are too saturated. Seems about 20-30% too high, and without a flat profile, that's a deal breaker to me.
Maybe they will fix that with a firmware update in the future.
That looks like a great little camera. Peanut features. I personally like the internal battery feature. I'm really glad they they came out with format. I like the feature set. It looks like an impressive camera for the price. I personally like the internal battery feature and the Wi-fi feature, in such a small package. I'm glad they came out with a session "session like" camera. I think this will be on a few people shopping list in the future. The camera market for FPV is quite good. Their a lot of good choices for the average hobbyist and the enthusiast. I glad the choices are becoming plentiful and while some may not be amazing or fantastic. I think there is something for everyone. Great in depth review. I do appreciate the honest review regarding the color profile. This will steer a few people away from this camera, but it could be updated in future firmware. Thanks for the awesome review.
agree about QR control....even for gopros, connecting with wifi can sometimes be hit and miss...and QR control is always quick and easy
I agree, in the past with GoPro it was a hit and miss, but I have a 10 and it's been a solid performer. I've a thumb 4K, but haven't had the opportunity to try out the QR code system as of yet. It seems quite useful.
@@pandrews01 i'm on my second Gopro 10 bones....and wifi connection has been terrible on both. they always either take multiple attempts, dont connect at all...or when they do connect, it literally takes 60 seconds before the connection is sorted and ready to use. And this is using two different phones (one of them brand new). So i think they cut some corners on the bones wifi antenna implementation. either way, QR code is fast and painless every time.
As a side note, i also have a caddx peanut...and my phone connects to it via wifi lightening fast. i feel like it can be in a box in another room and my phone is like "are you sure you don't want to connect to the peanut? just let me know".
@@kelsey7k Really. That sucks. Dude....I totally understand. How you feel, in the past I've had issues like that. Theeeeeee most frustrating thing is a device that loses connection 12 inches away, the other is a device that connects to everything except the device you want it to connect to. I totally believe you, corners cut to save weight and/or reduce costs. I'm eager to try the QR code method on my Thumb 4K.
I would love it the actual battery was an atachable module, so you could save up the weight for some sub250 cases.

I'm a big fan of caddx, their ratel series of fpv cameras are brilliant, I had an orca which I loved until I lost it in a river but good to see some design alterations that have improved since the orca. The image quality looks fantastic and once they (hopefully) add more options with a firmware update, I'm sure this will be a good option for a good amount of people..
I completely agree, Caddx makes nice stuff. The ratel was my go to analog camera. Orca in the river, ouch!!!....... I lost my orca in the ocean, googles just went black. Maybe orca just wanted to go back home. Glad the new camera is called Walnut, lol

Thank god i held off in buying the runcam thumb pro. This looks way better, and i am definetely intrested in this one. While a different class of cameras, i would really be intrested in a follow up video regarding how this camera stacks up against the runcam thumb pro. Demn Albert as usual your video is always the fastest released one, great review

A comparison would be nice between walnut and thumb pro, good call. I am still happy with the post video's that the thumb pro produces and it seems to be a better fit for a 3" than a heavier walnut. Thinking a walnut for my 5" freestyle basher and Gopro for my 5" cruiser / cinema.

The quality of the overall product is really good, the case is nice, the app is simple, but lacks the settings for contrast and saturation.I am sure that will be added in a future firmware.
The 30 minutes isn't the best for everyone, but with the addition of the bec that is not a problem.
The quality of the video is great, and with GyroFlow this becomes a great product for FPV.

Annoying tone but I actually like the loudness. Often not sure if my Session was on and had to check the LCD to make sure so will like the louder audible but ya... FW update with another tone option? :D

Yeah they can probably add que QR Code changes in a future firmware. If other cameras have it, this one can too.

Hi, great detailed review. My main goal for buying this Walnut camera is to fly longer with my Li-Ion powered drone (Chimera5 long-range) than I would with GoPro 11 Mini due to about 60g saved. However, 30min internal battery might be tight for 2 back-to-back flights, so I plan to hook it up to the battery pack. Would the Li-Ion battery have enough juice to power the camera and the drone? I use iFlight Fullsend Li-Ion 4s 4000mah (and will switch to 3000mAh to save another 100g). If this doesn't work, then I might need to go for DJI Action 2 or Runcam 5 Orange.
Yeah once they get a flat profile setting I would much rather have this than the DJI cube, not to mention it's cheaper! Would have been nice to have a 4:3 ratio with 60fps though
I think you have to get the Hero 11 for 4:3 and 60fps.
It looks like a nice camera, nice feature with the usb connection. Still prefer the gopro
The GoPro is way more expensive, but you are right, GoPro is better.
Now we just have to wait for a new firmware that fixes the issues.

@@Adam_Carbone Mainly due to the android version of the app. I'm a little jaded as well due to the fact I purchased the Insta360 Go directly from them new and less than two months later they dropped the Go 2 which has double the battery life and easy to power externally on a drone among other things. I have a Samsung Note 10 Plus and have had all kinds of issues with their app to the point when I use the Go I break out my old Motorola but to be honest I really dont use it often these days as I'm flying a lot of HDZero which has good enough video quality for me. I should probably just sell the Go to be honest and the sad thing is I've really only used it a half dozen times....
It looks like a pretty decent little camera!! Quite excited with this new lightweight replacement for the session! Though I'm waiting to see how much will the hero 11 mini weigh

Yeah, the settings for contrast and saturation need to be added.

Great! I bet the sound isn't as nice.. no one's been able to get the audio processing as good as how the session rendered the motor/wind sound in flight, that's what I really loved about the session. But the vid here of the walnut looks solid!!

I want to ask You. If I have power bank about 2500 mAh Is possible to run this camera about 2 hours? I would like to use it for airsoft helmet. Is the charging by magnetic USB-C fast enough to run it from 100 % to 0 % of my powerbank. Or the magnetic charging is so slow that the camera will only extends recording time from stock 30 minutes to maybe 45 minutes? How does it work?
Because when I use my GoPro for night timelapse I just connect my 15000 mAh powerbank and second morning I take the camera and It is still recording until powerbank dies.

Why didn't they just ship 2 charging magnets? One with USB C and the other with silicone wires to attach to the quad. Now you have this weird connection between the two.

They need to incorporate the BEC as well as the wires. The cost would go up.
Albert, i see video encode mode on H264, does it have H265 ?
It says on the product page that it can do both.
He showed in the video what was available in the app.
Yeah and there you can change the video encode type, but only H264 available now. Maybe they add H265 in a future firmware.
