I remember when Carlos went into fusion(like his friend Miles Davis did)back in the 70's and some of his fans did not like it,but i believe it was some of his greatest work.......the man is a legend and i told my wife that the day Carlos passes away it will be the only time i will cry for someone that is not family.
@@digidrum2003 I have told my girlfriend (another huge fan) the same thing regarding "crying" when he passes. Though Carlos proved his greatness early on with the first 3 albums, he sealed it with "Fusion" type releases like Caravanserai ('72), Welcome ('73), Borboletta ('74) and Lotus ('74). He returned to "Rock" in '76 with Amigos and Moonflower ('77) and was able to translate the musical languages he learned from Miles, McLaughlin and others to become an even better guitar player. With 50+ years under his belt now there is no stopping the man! Carlos will not be retiring anytime soon..

@@richardpaniagua5881 Absolutely. Caravanserai is the peak of a creative mountain, with the adjacent albums approaching its brilliance! The previous ones being more visceral, the subsequent more spiritual. Peace and love always.

I have mad respect for Santana because of the diversity, it's never about what kind of artist he is playing with. The only thing that matters is the music and how it sounds. That shit is spiritual when he gets on that guitar. No joke there won't be anyone like him got a very long time.
I agree. Santana is a very unique guitar player. He is in my top 10 list of my favorite guitarists. I've seen Carlos Santana 5 times live, and what he does musically is in a league of its own. When he collaborates with other artists, he adds another extra dimension to the music. Cheers!

He has continuously been recording, touring and playing with other musicians for a long time, across almost all musical genres.
Incredible creative output and its still bubbling along nicely.

The first international band I saw live in my country was Santana with Walker on vocals. I was a teenager and I couldnt believe the sound and energy emerging from the stage.
The thing with Carlos’s playing is that it always comes from the heart and you pick up his distinctive tone immediately.

He also said once "I don't play music, it plays me!" Think about that one. Carlos was my first guitar god, when I was a kid I could remember going to Mexican dances in the 70's and when they would play "Oye Como Va," or "Evil Ways," all of the Raza would get up and dance. It was heavenly!!
Very well stated Petra Kann! Greg Walker was a wonderful vocalist! He brought great energy and Carlos' playing was exquisite when Greg was in the band. Check out the song "Transcendence" from the album Moonflower ('78) - perfect example.
@@richardpaniagua5881 Moonflower I recall fondly - double album. In Australia it was a huge hit at about the same time the Rumors album was floating around by Fleetwood Mac.
I have seen Santana quite a few times - he regularly tours Australia. I also saw him play in Europe when I was traveling.
He just keeps going with his unique tone and expressive soloing. You can pick up his playing style from a mile away. One of my top 5 favourite players.
@@PetraKann Yes, though I have never been to Australia (want to visit!!) I know Santana is very popular there and tours the country often. I have seen the band "live" at least once a year since 1976 and he (they) never ceases to amaze me! Carlos' energy is truly remarkable. Think about it, he tours every year and he is now 74 years old (or 74 years young) and still plays like he's 30! A true inspiration to every musician! He's my favorite guitar player..
