Generally, 4 engine planes climb more slowly after take-off as they do not possess the extra 'surplus' thrust required for a twin engine plane. If an engine fails on a 4 engine plane after V1 it's not such a big deal as a twin where you have lost half your thrust rather than a quarter. At cruise the engines are producing little thrust compared to take-off......

My guess as to why the Premium Economy section is in front of the Business Class section is that there may have been First Class, which they would have then swapped for PE and instead of moving all the Business Class seats, they just swapped them directly

I love Business class in Edelweiss Airlines! (Even Economy Max in Edelweiss is good.) The crew is also always very friendly!

The A340 has a certain vibe to it. Something that the 707 had. Also before Philippine Airlines switched to the 777 on the Manila to Los Ángeles route, they used A340s. The Manila to Los Angeles route is longer than Buenos Aires to Zurich
The good old A340 - was a favourite of mine when I used to fly Virgin between Boston and Heathrow

The a340 (300 and 600) is such a good plane! So quiet and stable and roomy even in economy on the Airlines I flew. Too bad its being ditched these days.

I thought I was going to get one a couple of times flying Iberia MAD-LHR and virgin LHR-BOS but both operated on other aircraft in the end.

Another superb report Noel. I've flown Swissair in the 1960s: Caravelle, Convair Coronado and in the 2000s the Swiss A340 to Hong Kong. Always great service, except for the hot bun and cold sausage food service from Zurich to Manchester, England, in 1966. Unlike you, I think that the Edelweiss livery looks like it was painted by the winner of a kindergarten art contest. Just my opinion, I may be wrong. Anyhoo, back to your report, your premium seat looks like it is distanced from the best IFE screen - the window. All of your report could have been done from a window seat. The service and food looked good for a holiday airline. Keep 'em coming.

Looks like you've unearthed a gem of an airline there! Great value business class - I did watch your associated Lufthansa video & I think they are upgrading the seating on their 747-8i aircraft (not sure about the 747-400s they also use)? I'd love to do that very trip, if it's still possible today, 3 odd years & 1 global pandemic later! 2 aircraft that aren't common nowadays (& I've a long term ambition to fly on a 747 as well).

I did LHR-ZRH-LCA-ZRH-LHR a few years ago with the ZHR-LCA legs being with Edelweiss in business. Although it was short haul and a different product from long haul, I was still very impressed with the crew and the food. The only downside was that there was no lounge access in LCA.

Great vlog as always! A good contender to the longest A-340-300 flight is MNL-LHR flt PR720. Now it flown by a A-350.
Its still the a340
1. The mood lighting is in the foot compartement
2. I think Edelweiss is owned by LH directly as it is a sister company of SWISS.
3. I read somewhere that the Premium Economy is infront of Business Class because Swiss had it's first class in front and the seats in Business were just refurbished.
4. Switzerland has a big purchasing power and therefore a lot of people can afford to fly business class.

@@Aeneas75 Alright, i just looked it up. As of November 2008 Lufthansa Group is the direct owner of Edelweiss Air. Swiss is therefore the sistercompany with a big partnership.
The Premium Economy is in the front, because the number of Seats between Door 2 and Door 3. Exit 3 is a Small Exit Door, so Edelweiss cant put so many Seats between Door 2 and 3. ( In case of an Emergency to many PAX)
Just flew Edelweiss yesterday, altough only with their a320

The business class in edelweiss is the same as the Swiss A340 which is why it looked good for a “leisure airline” and in addition Swiss is the “luxury” brand of the Lufthansa group
I flew a lot with Swiss, but since flying with Edelweiss, I definitely prefer Edelweiss. I’ve had rude crew on Swiss flights quite often. On Edelweiss flights I always had a very friendly crew.

These a340 used to be former Swiss a340 which had a first class section upfront.

They took out the first class seats from Swiss and left the business class in place, thats why you get the premium economy at the front of the plane.

No, the configuration has to do with restrictions associated with emergency exit door types at doors 3 L/R.
Having travelled a lot with the Lufthansa Group, here’s some random thoughts:
• Edelweiss has better service and catering than SWISS
• SWISS + Edelweiss have a fantastic hub in Zürich, worlds better than Frankfurt and comparable to Munich
• Lufthansa has a better a better hard product Economy Class than SWISS, but their catering is much worse
• SWISS really needs to refurbish their A330-300s as they’re doing with their A340-300s

Fully agree... SWISS A330 fleet is in desperate need of a cabin refresh ! The Biz class product is showing wear and tear.

yea swiss can refurbish the 777 aswell the legroom in economy is terrible. i had more legroom on easyjet
Just Me Haven’t been on it yet actually but that’s not good to hear... the problem is that it’s a relatively new type for SWISS, so they’re not going to change the layout anytime soon! As a matter of fact, they might change the A330 layout or be more like the 777...
They really got to do something with immigration in EZE, it’s a nightmare.
For a city/country that receives so many tourists, they should step up their game.
Hopefully the new terminal will decongest a bit the chaos.

I flew business class with Edelweiss from DEN to ZRH and return. Would use them again in a heartbeat!
I flew United from DEN-LHR in economy, as much as people say they’re crap, it was great, the only improvement they could’ve made, was to hand out pens with landing cards. The line in London for customs was 2 hours long, when I got back to Denver, it took about 2 minutes.

I folded a piece of paper inside one of those things and it worked, it has a kind of “button” inside, you just need to push it with anything that fits
Great product even in Economy good legroom, big personal monitor with lots of movies and stuff. good food with fresh swiss bread and the crew is very nice and attentive. At night water/juice service every 30 minutes to stay hydrated.Plus I love the 340. It's a very comfy plane. I hope I can fly them again soon.
Those seats are the same as BA’s mid haul A321’s. BA only has 4 of them left in their fleet and use them for LHR-DME, LHR-SVO, LHR-TLV, LHR-AMM, LHR-BEY and LHR-CAI. But once the 787-10 starts being delivered they’ll be refitted to be standard A321’s. So I recommend you try fly one before they go.
Having a priority is easy for us crew members but passengers get annoyed by it easily and sometimes even get angry

Edelweiss has to be good, bc they have loads of competition at Zurich Airport.
The poor woman on the left at the lounge desk was trying to hold back a sneeze.
This was because its a former Swiss aircraft and they kept the business class seats in. Also they removed the first class and put the premium eco in the front instead
Flying Lufthansa Economy I have found it to be the best that I have flown. Not for sure about business, but that's not a class I will ever fly so that is one thing.
I've once flew Delta Premium Economy for 40 USD more than Economy trans Pacific. If you look out at least you can experience that, and at times it can be just nice as business.
@@erwinc.9117 Premium in edelweiss is the same economy seat but with a bit more of legroom... they actually don't call it premium class, it is just a seat booking. Not the same as other airlines

Going to sleep over Brazil and waking up over Portugal is historically rather fitting.
Edelweiss Business is similar to the one of Swiss, but the staff on Swiss are more professional. At YVR we had some arguments with the airport staff as despite our Swiss/Edelweiss codeshare flight, Edelweiss would not pay for the Air Canada lounge so we had to make do with the one of Japan airlines which was not very attractive and pretty crowded. And yes, I do agree with you that the two airlines' business classes are superior to that of their parent Lufthansa.

I cannot get over how much smaller the turbofans on that flight are compared to modern aircraft. Also explains why you took off so gingerly. Also, don’t drink at least 4 hours before bed, it disrupts your REM and deep sleep cycles.
The A340 is the only Airbus I have yet to fly on.
This flight is perfect now my grandparents can go visit there homeland :)
