Absolute Superman Preview With Jason Aaron - SDCC 2024
    The Comic Source
Absolute Superman #1 - November 6th, Writer - Jason Aaron, Artist - Rafa Sandoval, Color Artist - Ulises Arreola
Absolute Superman debuts in comic shops on November 6th, but writer Jason Aaron gives us some hints of what to expect live from SDCC 2024. Aaron discusses keeping the core of the character the same while creating a different backstory for a Superman who is very isolated. We also get some hints of how Kal-El may be honoring or perhaps mourning the loss of his home world. How he arrives on Earth and his upbringing remain a mystery, but it is clear that Aaron is very excited about what's to come. This is a common theme among the creators at DC involved in the Alll In initiative, many of them expressed the temptation to say too much in their eagerness to share the stories they have crafted with DC fans.

This interview has got me very excited for this book. I personally wished they used the Earth One books for their Ultimate Universe but I think this will be fantastic as well. Hopefully DC doesn’t drop the ball on this line and let it fall to the waste side like they did with Earth One or All-Star.

Agreed for the most part. I would have been curious to see the Earth One Superman and Batman continue, the Wonder Woman less so, but it feels like this Absolute Universe has similar energy. That being a bit more chaotic.

Hopefully they don’t turn it into the sexual perversion line like they’re doing the regular comics because if any one of these characters in this book is gay or transgender or not the race they’re supposed to be I will not buy another one of the issues because I’m not playing this left-wing nonsense with these people no more they’re gonna kill comic books if they keep doing this, nobody wants to see characters turned from white to black because you’re not allowed to do it the other way and I will not read anything that does thator if they turned a classic character that’s a macho guy into a homosexual. I won’t read that like they did Superman son. I can’t read anything about him now because they had him sex in a bathtub in one of the books. It’s a joke what they’ve done to these superheroes turning Alan Scott’s Green Lantern into a flaming homosexual my God.

It is already left wing let Aliens life on earth is a message of incusing not of social conservatism

I’m ridiculously excited for this. In fact.. I haven’t been this hyped about Superman since 1993 when The Death of Superman exploded into the scene. The lineup of talent writing & illustrating is a dream team. I’m just super excited! LFG!

I saw the Death of Superman as a cash grab and pretty much, the beginning of the downfall of comics. I do recognize that change has to happen and maybe I've read so many books that nothing really seems new. Maybe he should've just created a new character, but it's hard to beat Superman for name recognition.

I have a idea for superman. In the normal story superman is seen as the first DC hero. What if superman lands on earth after Humans learn about aliens, and there are other heros. Like Manchester Black told superman your old I'm the new, it could easy be the other way around, Black is this hero that protected earth from aliens and Clark shows up and is like Aliens can be friends.

@@oatmat Hal is my GL so I am fine with it. Also I think DC has more than enough legacy characters at this point. I think the last thing they need is MORE characters taking over known super hero identities, if you want to make a new character, make them wholly new.

I would argue legacy characters is what DC is all about or atleast a Huge part of it

    • @jace-thecomicsource561

@@oatmat Oh without a doubt, but the problem is when you have too many. Look at Connor Kent and Tim Drake as an example. In many ways they have been supplanted by Jon and Damian, for some they are the quintessential versions of Superboy and Robin yet they are largely forgotten currently. It is a tough balancing act. For that reason I don't think we need ANOTHER character that is Flash or Robin or Superboy or whomever. There are enough of those characters. If you say Robin, do you mean Dick? Jason? Tim? Damian? Stephanie? Carrie? Maps? Even with Flash we have Jay, Barry, Wally, Bart and Avery .... so I think it is ok to reuse one of the many or if you want it to be a new character, use a new name.

I wish the Absolute books weren't as different as they are. Like the OG Ultimate Universe, they were all reboots, that had fun little changes and cool twist. Just looking at it some of these changes to Absolute DC feel a bit forced, especially Wonder Woman. But overall still looking forward to reading these
