    Replaced the servo motor on a prenup date model a few years ago and found it easier to remove the dash. I have an update model now but would probably remove the dash to do this job. The plastic that covers the defrost outlet is most brittle and can crack if not removed carefully. Great video

    Thanks for sharing, my 2002 2.7 diesel has the same issue. Here in London all the old MLs are either in the breakers yard or permanently exported Thanks to the nonsense ultra low emissions zoning!!

    Pretty sure that white piece that he says is clicking behind the vent is only on 2001 and later.My 1999 doesn’t have it,have to remove dash,blend door actuator under air bag.Taking dash off not that bad once you put your mind to it.

      Yeah that’s possible . 2001 was the facelift year and lots of minor things changed . The whole dash sounds like at least a 6 beer job 😁

    I think that blend door issue would only be for facelift W163 02-05. 98-01 have manual HVAC controls. Could be wrong though.

      Damn ..did not think of that . I believe you are correct . The pre facelift had single zone climate control although the upper vent flap can break as well . It sends air between dash and windshield so it would have a bilevel setting . I believe all the north American W163 were electronically controlled with blend door motors. Full manual with cables like in the old days would be nice. With the flap removed as I did here , air will always blow to windshield as well as center vents , instead of one or the other

      @Dave H, Hello 👍 that is correct. But there is also a servomotor on the pre-facelift models. Unfortunately, this is also very difficult to change. But still better than the thermatic automatic air conditioning. Best regards from Germany 🙌

    nice video thanks. i would eliminate the problem. the plastic cog on my blend motor broke, replaced with a part from amazon and that has now broken...its a bad design so not worth constantly replacing

      @fupabox  Před 3 lety +1

      Agree. There's nearly zero downside to removing the flap other than manually closing the vents .also always a bit of air blowing on the windshield through the defrost vents . Again not an issue at all .

      @@fupabox how do you remove the flap, my truck did not sound but the flap won’t move, maybe the motor it’s not working (it just blows to the windshield)

      @@Mustardpimpmx The flap mounts on the actuator end is usually broken. If your mounts are unlucky enough to still be intact, the clicking means one of the gears in the actuator is busted. The Amazon part is garbage so don't even bother replacing it. You'll be better off ripping out the flap & removing the actuator. My left flap mount was busted & the flap was stuck open so it easily came out.
