  • In this GIMP photo manipulation tutorial, I show you how to create an awesome double-exposure effect by combining a portrait photo with a landscape (mountain) photo. I show you how to select a foreground object using the Foreground Select Tool, and use a combination of layer masks and layer modes to get the final result.
This tutorial uses the latest version of GIMP and the latest tools, features, and photo manipulation methods. I made it easy enough for beginners to follow, though the final result will impress everyone!

I wish there was a video on this using 5+ different photos to make one final photo. I keep seeing people on twitter combine multiple photos to make a poster kind of look and I can’t figure out how they do it.

Thanks! So many tutorials make this super difficult and difficult to follow along. Yours was so easy to digest and follow along step-by-step. Not sure if you can help me with one problem or not, but my GIMP program, any time I zoom in super close like you did for the ear, the image becomes super blocky, showing only the individual pixels, and obscures the image so much with the pixel's individual white borders that I almost have to guess I'm shading/erasing/etc the right area, zoom out to check, zoom back in to correct... if that makes sense. I'm on a 2021 Mac mini M1. I'm using high quality photos/images/vectors from places like Pxels, Freepiks, Unsplash, etc. Do you happen to know what is causing this and how to fix it?

Hi Michael (same name as me) I'm only a fraction through your Gimp videos and each and every one excites me. I'm not sure if you have any tutorials on it yet but I can't seem to get the sizing right for my printing. I've done a few greetings cards and business cards but they never turn out the right size. My printer is an HP 1510 series so I'm also asking.. Do you have an idea of what printer is (in your opinion) best for this type of work. I'm very artistic but at 61 years of age I am just getting into the digital side ( I know, bit late right lol). Anyway, any advice would be appreciated. Keep up the great work. Oh, I'm using the latest Gimp version at min. Keep up the fantastic work

Once I've selected my image and drawn the foreground, I click enter and then it goes into the computing alpha of unknown pixels stage. However as soon as I do this gimp practically freezes and says its not responding. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, and it hasn't resolved the issue. Thanks

After I add the layer mask to each layer, the image of my person loses all color and is transparent? How can I fix this?

Hello, great tutorial ... I ran into an issue when attempting to use the paint brush on the layer mask on the mountain mask layer. While brushing away the mountain with the paint brush after selecting the foreground color to black ... it didn't work. However, if I use the Pencil tool it works ... Is there a way around to fix this?

After I use foreground select and hit enter, GIMP shows that it is calculating alpha values. Then instead of getting a single line as my selection border like in the tutorial, I end up with a broad border of varying width (the area is filled in with diagonal lines) and I don't know how to change this.

I had that problem too. Update Gimp. There was a bug in one of the versions. The latest version is fixed.

The subject function, to me, crashes gimp very often

No need to say "I have a question" on multiple videos and social accounts - just ask the question my man! If I have an answer, I'll answer.

sorry man, I just asked on another video, and I didnt received a answer. I thought maybe you hadn't read it. This is the question What software do you use to make tutorials? Do you pay Commercial software? For example video edition and screen record and another things. Or do you use free software? I won't bother again. God bless you.
