God created the world, and it was good, but due to our disobedience of God the world and even the universe itself now exist in a fallen state. @@garyg7549 well, GOD is righteous and must judge sin and evil, and as the people were very wicked at the time, HE had to destroy them before they could get much worser. This Bible story (possibly real event, no matter how much people try to disprove it) also teaches us some valuable lessons, like obedience.
