McLaren Deal MASSIVE BLOW To Lando Norris's Title Hopes!

- McLaren have had an outstanding start to the season so far with Lando Norris sitting second in the drivers championship and the team chasing down Red Bull in the constructor’s championship. While the championship standings are looking good, what has been happening on track hasn’t quite been perfect. The team orders issue in Hungary was a bad look for the team and Lando Norris’ race starts are looking increasingly suspect the more people analyse them. With that in mind, the team have made a massive call which could spell the end of Lando Norris’ driver’s championship title hopes. I’ll be checking that out but first, let’s talk about the big contract news at the team.

Lando had many chances this season to show his leadership but Piastry has shown he can stay cool in his place at the front .

Lando drives with his heart not his head he needs to really think things through before each race and learn to control his emotions more.They have a great pairing McLaren and with a bit more care and foresight have the chance of a Championship in 2025.
Lando has proven to be a choker. While Piastre has shown he is an overall better driver in the making. The team is right to prioritise the constructors so that Piastre is unleashed.

Lando is a bloody good driver. Yes his starts aren't the best but then neither were Sennas.

Before Hungary, I thought Norris would stay with McLaren until he retires from the sport. After, I’m sure the chances of that are effectively zero.

Well said. Lando is class but his team mate is a f3 and f2 champion. Norris is neither. His rival has set a huge bar.
This is a spoilt kids sport (yes that includes the spoilt kid Lewis) but Piastri 's demeanour is the most likeable, he comes across grounded and humble, maybe the first driver in a long time who can be a genuine role model. Webber has obviously been great for him. Also just want to point out that Max was a very old head on young shoulders when he spoke about racing as a teenager and into F1, people forget this because of his on track controversies. Norris and even Hamilton had bratty disrespectful moments. I think Lewis even alluded to this himself a little bit.
I hope Oscar stays grounded when his obvious talent puts him in the limelight more and more.

I think McLaren have cost Piastri a WDC in 2024. They cost him wins in silverstone, miami, belgium due to pittstop strategy. He was also unlucky in Imola qualifying due to his team not notifying him about Manussen behind him and was also unlucky in austria with track limits in qualifying. He also received upgrades 2nd and was undercut by his team mate on a few occasions. He got really unlucky n Miami when he was leading the race and then pitted just before the virtual safery car came out and then Sainz took him out.

Lando is one of my favorite drivers, but he is making too many mistakes to win the championship. And to be fair Piastri is becoming better and better. Hard to say who will be the better driver next year.
If McLaren want Piastri to shine then they should manage their pit stop organisation better. The fiasco of Spa should never have happened. Team orders is not the way to go.

McLaren will win the constructors championship just because of Horner’s/Marko’s(?) decision maintaining Perez as second driver … the times of Verstappen winning the drivers AND the constructors championship all by himself will never be repeated for sure so it’s again a matter of cunning leadership

Lando helps the team understand what needs to be improved on the car. He also is importent for marketing. There are many ways the driver helps the team improve and succeed. The team has the same responsibility to the driver. It must work both ways, otherwise you burn your driver out and they leave.
There is a saying; “employees don’t leave bad companies, they leave bad managers”. Bad managers are given a diamond with a tiny imperfection and throw it away. Good managers help fix that imperfection. My money is on McLaren being “good managers” and working hard to help Lando fix this one imperfection.

Lando has proven to be petulant and self serving. He needs to humble himself. His team put him in a position to compete. He needs to put them first.
Hamilton did the same but was more clever about it and managed to get everyone twisted around his finger.
You're out of your mind. A race driver is there to win races period, first and foremost win. Lando was foolish to gift the win to Piastri.
don't get caught up in the aoura of the race driver being king - there are senior people with serious money running these teams - drivers are expendable.
@@50garyNorris only got the lead in the first place because McLaren didn’t want Hamilton to undercut him then held Piastri out for one more lap. Thats the only reason Norris got the lead,. If anything Norris was “gifted” the lead as he got it under false pretences because the team fucked up.
There still is a good chance that Lando could bet Max. With so many races to go and the small points gap and the fact the Max isn't winning every race it could happen. The team should have let Lando have the win and not swap them around as this would have cloesed the gap even further.
Only time will tell.

Lando was foolish for agreeing to the deal about the start, first lap leader gets the win. If that (faulty) logic were used for the entire process then it would follow that the first leader in qualifying should have the right to the first lap and thus he'd be the winner of the race. Piastri should have honored Norris' right to the "lead" by not challenging him. If this sounds stupid, it is, just as the man to lead the first gets the win is stupid. Why even have the race?
Edit; Stella and Brown should say " we will fight for every point in the Driver's and Constructors Championships, it not over until the very end". What kind of dumb message does it send when you cede the WDC at midpoint?
I just think Lando is absolute dogshit at starts and the first lap of races. I’m obviously in no way qualified to offer any advice but I’m sure someone on the team knows what he’s having trouble with. It seems the only part of his race craft he needs to sort out as far as any of us race fans can see from the outside.
Just finish in the points and deal with it in the off season...😊
Also important to remember is that Oscar is still only in his second year in F1. A lot of people seem to forget that. He’s barely more than a rookie and still has a lot of room to grow and improve. Plus, in his rookie year, Oscar made the brilliant decision to start copying Max’s driving style. It good to pick up an excellent driving style early on before you start developing bad habits, and Max’s style is a winning one. In fact, Charles and Lewis also have a similar style to Max’s.

@@ninjagymnast2993 Lando complained and whined about how easy it is to win in the quickest car when Lewis and Max was dominating. Guess it's not so easy to win after all in the quickest car. Just look at Lando bottling wins.
I agree with the comments generally and if anything I’m biased towards Piastri, but Lando is still quicker and we need to remember that Senna, Sainz and Max are you/ were all selfish and impatient but it didn’t hold any of them back from becoming world champion. So I’m not writing him off yet.
Oscar fought his way to the front of the field with a clean & decisive effort.

There’s a possibility that they could steal both championships from redbull. You aren’t out of a fight until you are out of a fight. I believe that McLarens giving up on a drivers championship while they are still in the fight is a big mistake.
They aren’t in the drivers fight. The gap has been way too big and no driver on the grid seems to be in a space where they can jump up to Max’s 7 total wins to match.
@@SleepinGriffin until you are mathematically eliminated, your are still in it. You never know what’s going to happen. The likelihood of them winning it is low, but it is still possible.
I don’t believe it’s “giving up”, per se. I think the emphasis on the constructors championship is to take the pressure and focus off the drivers championship and just get back to racing regardless of position in the standings. Point is to not get caught up in a championship for one person, rather focus on the team. If that is done, the fight for the drivers championship is still very much on.
That can't happen unless MV misses a heap of races.
Norris hasn't got the maturity to win..... unless he drops the "Mia culpa" attitude & gets a bit of mongrel about him....
Unfortunately, Lando kinda bottled it this year in that he had a number of opportunity's to score more points than he eventually did mainly due to his own actions. Blowing the start, indesicion on strategy ( though thats not just on him) getting too involved in the Max fight where they collided, not giving the position back to Oscar as soon as they had both pitted - he would have had to the pace to take the lead and the win. He'll get there but this year I think might have been a year too soon for him to take on Max.

He’s in a car that should win every race, basically. He has to beat one or two other drivers, that’s it, but he is unable to. McLaren needs to make Piastri the number one driver. Lando is far too weak-minded.

He and his fans may be hopeful, but making a clean pass against Max and Lewis on the track, let alone winning a race, seems to be a challenge for him.

McLaren know the future is with Piastri far to much Mia culpa from the whiny little Englishman. He simply isn't good enough to get the job done when he needs to but he'll make a good #2 or pay him out & nice him on. Liam Lawson would be a good fit.

Usually. The advantage of clean air is often enough to get out of DRS range and then extend the lead.

Anyone who can calculate already knew Lando pretty much had no chance anymore.
To overtake Max Lando has to get 7 points more than Max every race from now on.
That is very unlikely to happen so offcourse you focus on the constructors championship.
And trust me Lando knows he won't be able to even get close to being a champion this year and doesn't take this as a massive blow like you describe but i know everything for the views.
Next year will also be a challenge for Lando when Piastry is ready for prime time and, Max and red bull recomposing. Add in Mercedes not staying down for long. Gonna be an interesting year next year for sure.

Not according to the points... to win a championship you need to master set up, qualy, race and strategy. Oscars got the potential but isn't there yet. Lando and Oscar are definitely both championship contenders one day

Considering lando has ALOT more experience in f1. he hasn’t really shown it. Piastri is doing a great job but prior to the last couple of races he’s been slower than lando in the races and often gos backwards. Lando edges it for me. But not by much 😂
Some stupid comments about lando who is 33 points ahead of the un charismatic piastri, so if piastri is better why is he not the one with a points advantage. For people to make judgements on 2 races is a bit naive at best.

Long rant, my bad. LOL. I'm a McLaren fan, and NOT a Red Bull fan, but come on, Max had a couple bad races due to upgrades that didn't pan out. Red Bull going back to the last config puts them 0.5 in front of everyone still. Next year will be McLarens chance for better results. Red Bull only fell behind cause their upgrades didn't work. But the previous car is still faster then the field by far. It sucks honestly. I'm so tired of 2 teams winning everything every year for 15 years straight. I believe sprint races should be a SPEC car, I believe the winning team should get the least money, and CFD time for next season. Plus, the drivers should receive the bulk of the winnings per race based on placement, 1-20. Be far better racing if they raced for personal prize money. For a sport that claims to fight for equality, they sure aren't very equal in anything. F1 logistic spews the equivalent of 100,000's of cars every year, just traveling between races, while they claim their cars are far more efficient. F1 overall as a whole is probably not even 0.01% more efficient today than over the V10 era. I think it's all a joke. Losing teams should get the most money. Not the winning teams. Drivers should get prize money depending on placement, 1-20. We'd have far more winning teams if so. Not 2. Be fun to watch them all try to lose on purpose to get the most money to be honest.

Oscar has let Norris past many times when the team has asked about it. Never complained about it. But when Lando gets preferential treatment in Hungary even though he wasn't leading, he complained on the radio when asked to give place back. Oscar is catching up with experience. At the moment Norris is usually quicker, but it could change for 2025.

I believe Piastri is an overall better driver than Norris, he just lacks a little bit on race pace but is steadily improving. His qualification performances are also getting better.
But McLaren as a team has still a lot to learn when it comes to strategic decisions, they should have 4 or 5 victories yet instead of 2.
Lando has heart - He is by far the better person. To be honest I am tired of hearing about Oscar - Mclaren Ruiined Lando, they should have kept Ricciardo instead. Lando supported Mclaren but they have let him down - might be time for Lando to go somewhere he is appreciated.

and the whole FIA organization favor one Redbull vehicles who is known to break all F1 regulations . Why is the other Redbull car not performing like the one which wins every Rally or the other car is a decoy . Unless the stewards scrutinize properly and treat him like all other cars F1 is not a sport to be trusted . If the Rules and Regulations are set by FIA , is it only Rebbull who gets the designs proper ,all the companies get wrong throughout the year as their vehicles don’t improve . Something is not right in F1 !

Oscar hasn't really won a race an wasn't even close to winning the gift he was given 😅 he came out of the pits on fresher tires an still lost time . He wasn't catching Lando in fact he started 3 secs behind an Lando had built the lead to 6 secs before Maclaren attempt to force Lando to let Oscar win . Lando actually had won a race Oscar was gifted his win .
When you are wrong you are wrong. Piastri was faster than Norris in the first stint. Piastri was faster than Norris in the second stint. Even with a four second error Piastri was still 2 seconds up on Norris. Lando only got ahead of Piastri because McLaren were worried about him being caught by Hamilton and pitted him first giving him the undercut. After the undercut, both drivers were told they were to reestablish the racing order. Lando was told to preserve tyres and ignored it. Oscar was told to preserve tyres and did what he was told. “Bring the tyres in. Bring the tyres in. Don’t worry about Lando.” The only reason why Lando was suddenly faster than Oscar in the last stint was that Piastri wasn’t pushing and Lando had the clean air of track position he had not earned.

@@phillipmoore4533 exactly mate. The undercut was only possible because of the glaring driver errors from Oscar under no pressure. That alone skould have cost him the race. He is lucky that it was only his team mate who undercut him. Lando was driving away from him at about half a second per lap.
